No jeans, t-shirts; new dress code for Haryana Women and Child Department

Chandigarh: The Haryana Women and Child Department has issued a dress code for its women employees, according to which, they would not be allowed to wear jeans and t-shirts to work. According to the new dress code, the women employees can only wear salwar kameez and sarees to work.

Jeans and t-shirts have been branded as 'indecent clothing' by the Haryana Women and Child Department and decent clothes include only 'saree or salwar kameez with dupatta' for women.

Men also have to wear trouser-shirt combination. In a circular, the department warned its staff that those who failed to comply with the order will face dire consequences.

Ironically, the Haryana Women and Child Department minister, the Financial Commissioner, the Principal Secretary and the Department's Director are all women.

A regressive step or just a normal thing. To me it seem normal because many private and govt. companies do ask their employees to wear uniform or formal dresses to the office. In that context, I feel that this step is perfectly normal. No need for hullaballoo about this issue unnecessarily.

Jeans are actually the labour class outtfit.

    Requires no ironing, no washing.

In an office, one should not come dressed as if to work inside a manhole/ sewer/ or construction of roads/ or panning for gold in a river.

If jeans are fine, why not be more comfortable wearing those modern loose check half pants (that are a fashion statement of the youth) and slippers (flip flops)?

And instead of shirts, wear those banyans that chaps wear even when going out, to show their muscles?

I would love to see Manmohan Singh wearing that and going off to attend an international conference! He would be real cool! ;) :pound:

What about moral policing dont you understand? There is a difference between being asked to wear formal clothes to office from to 'wear decent' clothes? Do you understand the difference? Or are you really thick.

Employees are already prohibited from coming to office in dirty, torn or indecent clothes.
