I am not understanding that why this missile is so huge
AFAIK the missile weighs somewhere around 1500kg, that's half of BrahMos land and ship-borne version,
similar to the tomahawk missile's weight.
so how is it huge, or am i missing something?

Perhaps people are confused due to the size of its launcher TEL.

I however am not happy about it's nuclear use being touted so much, let us not forget that the primary use of a LRCM is to provide us strategic striking power without having to resort to the AGNI which may be mistaken as a first nuclear strike however with the media and most of the general public already touting the nirbhay as a nuclear weapon we may have lost this most valuable strategic strike use of a LRCM to the same case of mistaken identity.

Sukhoi chased Nirbhay missile in Test , proven system might have failed : DRDO

Published March 17, 2013 | By admin
SOURCE: EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

Over hundreds of missile scientists in Bangalore and Hyderabad have begun their investigations in the form of post-flight analysis of the aborted mission of India's first subsonic cruise missile, Nirbhay, recently. Sources confirmed to Express on Saturday that the missile had successfully navigated two way-points during its 19-minute flight.

As reported by Express earlier, the preliminary investigations have found that the missile's vertical lift-off, booster performance, control actuators, ignition of engine, and wing deployment performed as per the text-book format. "We found no shocks or jerks during the deployment of wings. The entire avionics functioned normally. The missile navigated through first two way-points. The missile drifted from the path due to the improper functioning of one of the electronic sub-systems," sources said.

While all the new technologies onboard the missile is said to have done their duties, what's worrying the DRDO scientists is that a proven system might have given up at the crucial time. "The radars located at Chandipur, Dhamra, Wheeler's Island, Paradeep, Puri (near Konark) and Gopalpur tracked the missile. For the first time, we have had a chase aircraft in the form of a Sukhoi following the missile. The Sukhoi gave us the exact location where the missile fell after the mission was aborted," sources said.

The scientists have planned eight to 10 way-points for the missile for its full duration (one hour, approximately 1000 km) of the flight. While DRDO refuses to accept it as a failure, considering that all systems developed for the cruise vehicle have functioned till the time the mission was aborted. "The scientists are analysing all available data, captured by various systems, placed along the course of the missile. We will be able to find out the exact cause soon and we have nothing to hide. Another Nirbhay should be ready for flight within six months," sources said.

So what DRDO is saying is that they have proven, vertical launch, booster separation, wing deployment, navagation to way point and movement after way points, it went up to 300 km and finally missile abort system works.

What it does't prove is fully mission, approch to all way points and detonation at the target.

Yeah saya, it seems the problem was with improper functioning of one of the electronic sub-systems which made it drift from the path, and if so then it's not a big deal and the test stands successful for most of the part. Hopefully they will resolve it within six months :)

This will be the longest range cruise missiles in Indian arsenal
Used in three different platforms the range offers a strategic advantage
Deep penetrating air strikes without pilots deep in enemy territory
Preventing ships access or destroying them at ports or bases
And it is a loitering missile which can return if mission is aborted
Or behave likeva UAV loitering for hours then destroying
Targets many advantages if you think about it along with
Thirty two different warheads.

You are missing the point of his actions. He was the first officer to ever take the government to court because he didn't like their decision. If the real reason he was dismissed is because of his corruption complaint, why didn't he make that a point in his arguments? It would have brought it to the forefront. But he based his case on a technicality that has zero impact on battling corruption. He saw it over his entire career, but he didn't make a stink until after he was canned. Why wait... why not make it a case in his court arguments to make them deal with it? Why not follow up his complain in office with an official report that Antony requested? He is only willing to rock the boat after his influence is gone. In the process, he has set a bad precedent of insubordination by challenging the civilian government's decisions.

It is supposed to be adopted for MKI that are getting the Brahmos conversion.
you never seem to understand that in a democracy evry citizen whether he is a man on the street or army chief has certain basic rights privilege enshrined in the constituttion. He corrected his DOB in one branch of the service which keeps records. That means his claim was legal and correct to that branch. He has done that long before he became army chief. He was chosen as army chief means he has a decorated career based upon merit, so no way you can call his decision to challenge the decision in court as insubordination.

if he was such an insubordinate who needed to be canned, how come he was recommended to the chief of army?

he made the entire ruling dispension eat crow for six months, instead of quietly accepting the crores of bribe offered to him and clead the import deal.

Anyway you haven't commented on the decision to allow Dassault back into MMRCA competition. But further discussion on this matter should be transfered to a separate thread , because this thread is not meant for that.
