KOLKATA: The NIA, which is investigating the Bardhman blasts, on Wednesday roped in the NSG as it found leads of more illegal madrasas meant for training jihadis, explosives manufacturing units and links with several international Islamist terror outfits.

The NIA team headed by S K Singh submitted a brief primary interim report to the Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA) detailing the conspiracy, stating that it would need more time to unearth the huge conspiracy to carry out subversive activities hatched by the terrorists who were aided not only by groups in Bangladesh but also those based in other countries.

In his seven-page report, Singh mentioned that the conspiracy had been hatched a long time ago and since October, 2011, these terrorists, several of whom were members of the Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh, had infiltrated and started operations in West Bengal with the aid of some politicians.

They had built links with other terror groups in India and started recruiting youths including women, set up several madrasas in West Bengal to train them in "fidayeen" attacks while indoctrinating them in jihadi philosophy.

The three men traced by the NIA in Tamil Nadu through mobile call records of Raziya Bibi, widow of Shakil Ahmed, the JuMB terrorist who died in the blast on October 2, are in fact student leaders of the Islamic Chhatra Shbir of Bangladesh, who had been sent there to recruit youths from South India.

Jihadi literature recovered from the house, where the blast took place, was printed in Urdu, Arabic, Bengali and Tamil. The NIA team on Wednesday found another madrasa at Tamilpukur in Bardhaman which was being built on a huge plot of land financed by Mohammad Yusuf and Sobhan Sheikh,a carpenter . They had purchased the agricultural land at a high premium from local farmers but started construction without the Panchayat's permission. The sleuths are trying to trace the funds which were provided to these terrorists and found links with the JuMB as well as some Wahabi trusts and NGOs in the Gulf countries. Another NIA team again visited Kirnahar in Birbhum district, and searched the house of Abdul Qader Gazi, whose sister was married to Qauser, one of the masterminds behind the terror module, and questioned his mother, as the two men are suspected to have fled to Bangladesh.

I remember, during the investigation of the malegaon blasts the investigating agencies (of the UPA, for the UPA and by the UPA) had leaked the so called inflammatory literature from Lt.Col. Purohit's laptop along with some 'incriminating documents'. This was revealed by a Page 5 article in TOI written, conveniently, by syyed wahajatuddin (i'm not so sure about the first name) in a tune espousing the misery of muslims in the land.

One of the document talked of how the Lt.Col's outfit planned to use foreign help to create an armed Hindu resistance in India and declare a part, if not full, of the country as a Hindu kingdom

My question even then, as is now, was that why is not this jihadi literature openly shown in newspapers !!! While it was okay to 'reveal' a preposterous document supposedly from Hindu outfits to the public, why not this vitriolic, hate-filled and evil jihadi documents..... especially when the country needs a mass education and awareness of the danger posed by these jihadis.

'58 terror cells active in West Bengal' says National Investigation Agency

In a sensational revelation, intelligence agencies and the National Investigation Agency told the Centre that at least 58 terror modules are active in West Bengal, most specialising in making IEDs.

A status report on the investigations into the Burdwan blast also states at least 180 Bangladeshi nationals who managed to sneak into India in the past few months were part of these terror modules, and belong to the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen.

Intelligence sources said it was in the backdrop of these revelations that NIA director-general Sharad Kumar visited Burdwan on Friday and took stock of the investigation into the blast and the Jamaat's vast network.

The agencies also identified the two masterminds, Anisur and Mufazzal Hussain, responsible for setting up the Bengal modules. Sources said both are Bangladeshis and there is a possibility they may have fled to Bangladesh.

Mufazzal Hussain is the man who had set up two madrasas in Murshidabad which were primarily acting as a front for terror camps and some of the Jamaat cadres were being trained here for making the IEDs.

The NIA chief reached Kolkata this morning and later went to Burdwan where he met the investigating team. Sources said the NIA DG was given a detailed account of the probe and also what the accused persons, Hasem Molla alias Badru Alam Molla, Razia Bibi and Alima Bibi, have disclosed during interrogation so far.

NIA took over investigations into the case following directions from the Union Home Ministry even though the Trinamool Congress-led State Government was reluctant for the central anti-terror agency to conduct the investigations.

Mr Kumar visited the blast site and inspected the house where the blast took place, examined the rooms and went to the terrace of the building. After spending about 30 minutes, he went to visit another house at nearby Mathpara on Badsahi Road where 40 improvised hand grenades were found. He later visited Murshidabad also where one of the dead terrorists, Shakil, had lived on rent.

The NIA is now closely investigating another aspect into the case as a large amount of cash recovered from the house in Burdwan has apparently been traced to a bank robbery in Telangana a few months ago.

'We are trying to find out if there is a link between this terror module and the bank robbery as some of the cash from that incident has been recovered from the house of one of the terrorist', a senior investigating official said.

The Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited or the IBBL has had a notorious history and several agencies from across the world have red flagged this bank. Now with India seeking a report from Bangladesh on whether Saradha money was parked in this bank, the probe becomes even more interesting. Indian agencies suspect that the Jamaat-e-Islami collected Saradha funds, parked it in this bank following which it was moved to Saudi Arabia and Mexico.

One more bank under scanner

The scanner is also on another bank called the Social Islami Bank which is directly connected to banks in Saudi Arabia and the agencies suspect that the Saradha money could have moved through this channel. This bank, according to the Intelligence Bureau, is directly connected to the Jamaat-e-Islami which has been accused of parking Saradha money at the behest of Trinamool Congress MP, Ahmed Hassan Imran. This bank has been accused several times in the past for helping divert terror funds and there have been several instances to show that fake currency was also being circulated from this bank. The case of the Limbini Garment company was an eye opener in which it was found that several thousand notes which were drawn out of this bank were fake.

According to the IB this bank facilitates the parking of funds relating to the Jamaat-e-Islami. The probe process Based on the inputs that the Indian agencies have the money that was parked into the IBBL was moved into another bank in Saudi Arabia. Once Bangladesh provides India with the information it would become clear if the money was moved into the Al Rajhi bank in Saudi Arabia.

The modus operandi of these banks have been busted several times by various agencies. The hundi money which is collected towards relief work by groups such as the Lashkar-e-Tayiba and Jamaat-e-Islami is parked in these banks first. Over a period of time it is transferred to terror groups with the help of middle-men. The report that Bangladesh would provide India would help us not only find the exact trail of the Saradha money but also detect the money trail in the Burdhwan blast as well.

The Jamaat-ul-Bangladesh relies heavily on the the Jamaat-e-Islami for both logistic and financial support and Indian agencies suspect that money could have been moved for this purpose also. Both the JMB and the Jamaat work for a common cause and that is to throw out the Awami League out and there is a good chance that all these incidents may be interconnected an official also informed.

Situation in WB seems alarming, not just for them, but there has been some connections in many other states and also sabotage our neighbouring country. and even more worrying is that it seems to have the approval of the political leadership and the state machinary. I hope this stuff is cleaned up. Well we were luck that those bombs went off when they did, otherwise we might have never known about this until it was too late.

CPI was not into goon politics. It was also a small contributor to the LF government. The goons were mainly under CPI(M), and some were under Congress. These goons were bred by Jyoti Basu, and Buddahdeb Bhattacharya tried to disarm them, and Mamata took them under her tutelage, struck deals with the Maoists, played with the motions of the people (silliness on part of the people), and siezed power.

CPM and TMC are same. No one is a bigger terrorist. CPM for your info still thinks that border restrictions should be lifted. Also your BJP/Modi is not doing the thing that will save people from terrorism ie educating Muslims and imposing strict borders. I do not think that Muslims are bad but the madrasas turn them to terrorists. NSA to oversee terror probe in West Bengal, get Mamata govt on board

NEW DELHI: Taking a serious view of the revelations of a deep terror network in West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will send national security adviser Ajit Doval to the state on Monday to personally oversee the ongoing investigations and persuade the state government to be part of the solution.

Doval will be accompanied by IB chief Asif Ibrahim during his visit, signalling the importance the government is giving to these developments. Doval's first engagement will be a meeting with chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

The NSA will carry a personal message from the PM asking for "full support" of the state government in carrying out the investigations on an al-Qaida affiliate taking root in the border state.

Faced with some resistance from the Mamata government on investigations into the terror network in the wake of the Burdwan blasts, an alarmed Central government has asked Doval to brief the Trinamool dispensation at length and "sensitise" it to the dangers of what has been unravelling.

Accompanied by top officials, Doval will even go to Burdwan to personally oversee the probe which has since been handed over to NIA. It's not yet clear whether he will visit Murshidabad where Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) leaders were apparently using a madrassa to train their cadres.

The visit comes on the back of NIA chief Sharad Kumar's revelation that they had found some 58 terror modules operating in West Bengal. The investigators have zeroed in on some 180 Bangladeshi nationals operating these modules and working with JMB. This deadly al-Qaida affiliate has reportedly been planning attacks both in India and Bangladesh.

Reports said the two masterminds identified as Anisur and Mufazzal Hussain are Bangladeshi citizens. Doval will also review the information gathered from the confessions of the captured women militants, who have revealed a huge network of IED manufacturers and an expanding terror network.

The developments are particularly difficult for both the Central and state government. Battling waning popularity in the aftermath of the Saradha scam, Banerjee has been resisting Central involvement in the investigations. But home ministry overrode her objections to bring NIA into the probe. She cannot publicly oppose the investigations and risk further loss of popularity by appearing to side with the dark forces, a perception that might be her undoing in the next elections. But she believes the unravelling of the terror network could affect her political equations as well.

The JMB in Bangladesh had been decimated by the Sheikh Hasina government in 2007, but it found a safe haven in West Bengal a few years later. The links between JMB, Jamaat-e-Islami and al-Qaida have not only created a new terror network here, but are also feeding off the antipathy between the Awami League and opposition BNP in Bangladesh (Jamaat is allied to BNP). Banerjee herself has been antagonistic to the Awami League government in Dhaka and diplomatic sources here said she had reached out to the Jamaat several years ago, which rang alarm bells in the security establishment. Security sources say they had sent 'cautionary' reports to Kolkata in the past few years, with little or no response from the state government.

Burdwan bomb meant for attacks in Bangla: NIA

Confirming the initial suspicion in the October 2 Burdwan blast, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Friday said the accused arrested in the case and their associates were members of terror group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bang-ladesh (JMB), who were preparing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) for transporting them to that country for possible terror attacks.

The agency issued a statement late night stating that it had completed the initial phase of probe into the bomb blast in a house at Khagragarh village in Burdwan district of West Bengal.

While two persons — Shakil Ahmed and Suvon Mandal alias Subhan — both allegedly residents of Bangladesh, were killed while manufacturing IEDs, one Abdul Hakim alias Hassan was injured. Hassan and three others including two women, one of them the widow of a suspected terrorist who died in the blast, were arrested.

"Investigation so far has revealed that the accused persons and their associates were the members of JMB, a terrorist organisation proscribed in Bangladesh and they were preparing IEDs which were being transported to Bangladesh," the NIA said in the statement.
The agency said it is focussing on the activities of JMB covering all aspects including the funding of terror activities. It said it is also considering announcement of cash rewards for any information leading to the arrest of the absconding accused who include JMB members from Bangladesh.

The NIA statement came hours after its Director-General, Sharad Kumar, inspected the house in Burdwan where the blast took place also took stock of the field investigation being conducted by the agency.

After spending about 30 minutes at the blast site, Kumar inspected another house at nearby Mathpara on Badsahi Road where 40 improvised hand grenades were found. He also visited a house which one of the suspected dead terrorists Shakil had rented in Beldanga in Murshidabad. He later went to 'Burqa Ghar', apparently a burqa making unit run by Shakil but suspected to have been used as a place to meet the other accused.

The visit came two weeks after the agency took over investigations. Later, Kumar held a meeting with the agency's Kolkata team after which he said strategies have been worked out to arrest the absconding accused persons.

"I have come to Kolkata to review the investigation. I had a detailed discussion with my officers. We have evolved strategies regarding arrests of absconding accused persons. I can't reveal anything because it will affect the investigation," Kumar said on his return.
