WTF is the church doing in legal matters.Church down south sounds like a messed up situation.

Yes, atleast a part of it is highly messed up. Their only loyalty lies probably towards their bosses in Vatican and America.

Kochi: After celebrating Christmas with their families, the two Italian Marines, facing murder charges in Kerala, returned to Kochi this morning complying with the high court directive.

Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone were allowed to go home for two weeks by the court. They are expected to leave for Kollam court today to surrender their passports, their counsel P Vijaybhanu said.

Good. Was not expecting this. But good work to the Indian Gov, Italian Gov and the courts.

I don't know about laws and under whose jurisdiction the case should come.
The whole case is one f***d up situation. My personal belief is, it wasn't done intentionally.
At the end of the day the soldier was doing his duty.That's how I see it.
This case will eventually peter out and I hope the marines will be released.
What happened was unfortunate but I don't think it was intentional.

Italian Marines return​

The Italian Marines, Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone, accused in the case for shooting two Indian fishermen to death off Indian shores, returned after spending Christmas with family at home.

The High Court of Kerala had allowed the marines to go home on condition that they had to report to the Kochi City Police Commissioner before 3 p.m. on January 10.

The Marines arrived at the Cochin International Airport here by a special flight that touched down at 7.50 a.m., following which they reported at the office of City Police Commissioner past 9.30 a.m. The marines then proceeded to Kollam to surrender their passports.

Giampaolo Cutillo, Italian Consul General, who was with the marines, told The Hindu that they have returned in compliance with the bail issued and with effect from Friday, the earlier bail conditions would be in place. This will mean that the marines have to report to the office of the Kochi City Police Commissioner and remain within 10 km radius of the office.

Sure same cannot be said about Indians. But in the reverse case Italian courts would have never permitted Indians to go for 2 weeks, govt guarantee or no.

How are you sure about Indians not returning, even hypothetically? Even this case of allowing some one accused of mueder alowed to leave the country is unprecedented. Where did it happen earlier? In I*ndia, it is second case in recent months.

Some Indians are fond of self flagellation, which anyway lowers your self esteem and lower you in world's eyes.

Exactly...Deepavali or Dussehra..Indians would not even have been allowed to visit home.

It could have happened if they had Indian PM or head of the ruling party.

Lesson for India: Amend laws to allow extra territorial jurisdiction.
