Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation has announced that it is dropping its planned bid to take full ownership of satellite broadcaster BSkyB.

It follows a scandal over phone hacking at News Corp's UK newspaper group.

News Corp deputy chairman Chase Carey said the bid had become "too difficult to progress in this climate".

The move came just before MPs debated a motion supported by all major parties calling on Mr Murdoch to scrap the bid. The motion was approved without a vote.

The scandal has already led to the closure of the UK's biggest-selling newspaper, the News of the World.

On Friday, Prime Minister David Cameron announced details of a public inquiry into phone hacking and media regulation.

This is a huge deal. For decades, what Rupert Murdoch wanted, Rupert Murdoch got. Not this time. The politicians he controlled out of fear, favor and intimidation were strengthened by the public outcry against the abuses of NI--and this time, the bad guys weren't able to buy their way out of it. Rupert Murdoch has many propaganda newspapers allover the world - the biggest is Fox News Network. Rupert Murdoch also has ties with Times Of India newspaper in India. Such a organisation should never be allowed to gain a foothold in any country.

News International have just confirmed that Rebekah Brooks has resigned. If she thinks she will escape justice by resigning now she's in for a major shock.

Rupert Murdoch got cream pied in congressional hearing. That was more of a distraction than anything. The drubbing he was getting from the MPs was more embarrassing for him than any cream pie could have been.
