New York train crash: Metro-North derailment in Bronx

Four people have been killed and more than 60 injured in a passenger train crash in the Bronx area of New York.

The train appeared to be going "a lot faster'' than normal as it approached the curve, one passenger said

One of the derailed carriages ended up very close to the water

A commuter train that derailed over the weekend, killing four passengers, was hurtling at 82 mph as it entered a 30 mph curve, a federal investigator said Monday. But whether the wreck was the result of human error or mechanical trouble was unclear, he said.

Safety experts said the tragedy might have been prevented if Metro-North Railroad had installed automated crash-avoidance technology that safety authorities have been urging for decades.

our infrastructure is in a lamentable situation. Calif. can only launch a pilot project in the desert for testing the idea of high speed rail that lasts nor more than 30 miles; Florida even rejected the idea to build high speed rail with federal aid money...

I used to enjoy a novel about a thanksgiving travel on a train in the mid west, the tone is hilarious, and the scene beautiful, and the whole journey much much eventful, ...but the days are forever lost! don't please mention Pan Am Rails to me. we deserve some new treat, but where will it come from? no one knows.
