Whatever Iran may call it, this cannot be called a tank. :)> This looks like a toy tank. Even the Humvee weighs 2.6 tons without armor. I think that even 12.7mm AP rounds can go right through this little buggy. :)>
Dear Kommunist,

A Country with Military Restrictions has done some thing, this small contribution is in-fact appreciating:113:.

Would you believe they have infact reverse engineered the British - Scorpion light tank.

Atul. while respecting your viewpoint, one cannot agree that if due to sanctions, Iran comes up with something inferior, we should appereciate it. And I would still say, this 4.9 ton buggy cannot be called even a light tank. India has produced the Arjun despite facing sanctions for several years.

Would you believe they have infact reverse engineered the British - Scorpion light tank.
Maybe they are sending their engineers to study in China nowadays. :D

i think rather than buying 300 light tank ,we should buy atleast 100 attack helicopters for CAS mission ,way more effective than light tanks

my thoughts exactly....

but if we are going to buy them tanks, i think no other country except russia and india has the experience to build engines tough enough to handle high altitude air for long periods of time... maybe we or russia should build the engines? might save us some moolah......

i thinks its "too fat" for mountainous terrain......... other than that thats one sweet tank........
The chassis has fought several wars in the mountains of the Caucuses... it is optimal for the terrain as the design was optimised after mountain fighting in Afghanistan which taught the lessons.

SK-105 Kürassier

The SK-105 Kürassier is an Austrian light tank or tank destroyer armed with a rifled 105 mm gun in an oscillating turret. It is estimated that over 700 have been produced.

SK-105 Kürassier - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

What interests me about this:

The SK-105 was developed by Saurer-Werk (now Steyr-Daimler-Puch) to meet the Austrian Army's operational requirement for a mobile anti-tank vehicle. The first prototype was ready in 1967 and delivery of pre-production vehicles commenced in 1971.

The SK-105 is based on a heavily modified Saurer APC. Due to its low weight the SK-105 can be transported by C-130 Hercules transport aircraft. The turret of the SK-105 is based on a French design, developed for the AMX-13. Its gun can penetrate 360 mm of armor.

This vehicle is specifically designed for mountain terrain and has an improved climbing ability compared to heavier main battle tanks.

i found some inetresting alternative to striker for wheeled tanks
Despite that the 2S25 Sprut-SD is referred by Russians as the self-propelled anti-tank gun or tank destroyer, it is a light tank by it's function. The Sprut-SD was designed for the airborne forces and naval infantry. It can be seen as a replacement for the out-dated PT-76 light tank. The 2S25 Sprut-SD has firepower comparable with modern MBTs and outperforms light tanks and tank destroyers in these terms. Some sources claim that 50 to 75 Spruts are due to be delivered to Russian airborne units.

Protection of the Sprut-SD has a very limited. It's front arc provides protection against 12.7-mm rounds. All-round protection is against small-arms fire and artillery shell splinters only. Despite that protection can be increased with add-on armor and various countermeasures system. Vehicle is fitted with an NBC protection and automatic fire extinguishing systems.

The Sprut-SD is armed with a fully-stabilized 125-mm smoothbore gun, fitted with an autoloader. This gun is also used to launch anti-tank guided missies in the same manner as ordinary projectiles. This feature is common to all modern Russian MBTs. Laser-guided anti-tank missiles has a range of effective fire of up to 5 km. Missiles can also be used against low-flying helicopters. A total of 40 rounds including missiles are carried for the main gun. An autoloader holds 22 of them. The 2s25 Sprut SD has a rate of fire of 7 rounds per minute. Vehicle is fitted with a modern fire control system.

Secondary armament consists of a single coaxial 7.62-mm machine gun.

Vehicle has a crew of three, including commander, gunner and driver.

The 2S25 Sprut-SD uses modified chassis of the BMD-3 airborne combat vehicle. It is powered by a 2V-06-2S diesel engine, developing 510 horsepower. Vehicle has an adjustable ground clearance. The Sprut-SD is fully amphibious and can be airdropped with the crew on board the vehicle. On water it is propelled by two waterjets. Vehicle is sea worthy up to Sea State 3. It can also fire from the main gun in limited traverse range when afloat.

Some interesting views about striker,

Initially, the Stryker was controversial, mainly because they were new, and light armored vehicles that moved via wheels, rather than tracks. The Strykers also caught a lot of criticism for the usual problems a new combat vehicle encounters. The Stryker brigade equipment exchanged a lot of armor protection and heavy weapons for more electronics and communications equipment. The brigade had an initial version of the battlefield Internet that the army was slowly putting together.

The initial 2004 combat actions in and around Mosul were not as intense as they were down around Baghdad. But there were heavily armed Baath party diehards and al Qaeda terrorists up in Mosul. Thus the Stryker brigade saw a lot of action, some of it quite heavy. It was thought that the Strykers would be very vulnerable to RPGs, but only two vehicles were lost that way in the first year. In some actions, platoons (four vehicles) of Strykers had dozens of RPGs fired at them with no serious damage. The protection on the Strykers has been up to the job, but the troops, and hostile Iraqis, have also noted that the Strykers were faster, and quieter, than other armored vehicles. This turns out to be a battlefield advantage, something American troops had forgotten about. The last large scale use of wheeled armored vehicles by American troops was in World War II. Some of the details of how those vehicles could be used had apparently been forgotten. A wheeled armored vehicle can more quickly move out of an ambush, or any other kind of trouble. Wheeled armored vehicles also make a lot less noise. The track laying system is inherently noisy, wheels are not. Strykers can sneak up on the bad guys, an M-2 Bradley or M-1 tank cannot.

Off the road, the Stryker is not as mobile as a tracked vehicle. Canadian troops in Afghanistan recently got reminded of this, as their LAVs (a cousin of the Stryker, also used by the U.S. Marines) often got stuck when they left the few roads found over there. The Canadians brought in some tracked armored vehicles to deal with the worst off-road situations. When Stryker showed up in Afghanistan during the Summer of 2009, if found the Canadian experience to be very accurate. Off road, the Stryker had problems with mobility, and increased wear and tear. But for patrolling the main roads, the Stryker was excellent.

The troops in the Stryker Brigades were trained to the same high standards of all American infantry, which means soldiers capable of operating at high speed. The Stryker brigades new communications system allowed for speedier operations. Whether it's getting out of an ambush, or getting into position for a raid or attack, the extra speed leaves the enemy at a disadvantage. But this depends on using roads, or hard, even ground for cross country operations.

Procurement: Yet Still More Stryker
