Iam yet to come across another example a regime so chronically riddled with an inferiority complex and every attempt at addressing it results in diplomatic or political bluster.Iam convinced Chicom's are unable to reconcile with the fact that it will never be able to assail India's moral leadership in the global arena, assumed so effortlessly,no less thanks to a society nurtured on the principles of democracy and personal freedom.

The midgets never lose an opportunity to put a dent, only to find it backfire spectacularly. The most recent incidents that come to my mind are,China vehement opposition to India's demand for NSG waiver.Chicom's painted themselves into such a political corner that it took,of all the people, dubya man just one call to help the Chinese call their own bluff(I'm sure George Bush enjoyed it just as much)

If that wasn't enough they ratcheted up a non issue at the ADB involving a loan sanction for projects in Arunachal Pradesh.By unnecessarily linking the loan sanction to its ridiculous territorial claim,China forced other regional members to take stand on the same, which they did by clearing the loan which in effect indirectly rubbished China's claim and handed India a diplomatic victory(with some countries having to openly state that AP was part of India)...

If i ever had the misfortune of being a Chinese, i would ask the commy's to avoid such blusters and save my countrymen further international ignominy........That being said, old habits die hard :)

It's no use to play the Xinjiang,Tibet,Taiwan cards.

1. Uighur population is only near 10 million ,only 45% percent of the total population of Xinjiang. And in Urumqi ,the capital of Xinjiang ,the Uyghur population is only 20% percent of the whole population in Urumqi.
In Xinjiang ,there's Production and Construction Corps .In the peace time ,the corps are mainly on agriculture and business issues. But as the riots occurs ,the corps are equipped with weapons to clam down riots. The total population of Production and Construction Corps in Xinjiang is nearly 3 million.

BTW ,only few of Uyghurs want to separate ,I think no more than 10 thousands.
90% percent of Uighurs want to have a good and peace life.

So ,Xinjiang would not be separated.

2. About Tibet ,the population of tibetan is about 3 million. Most Tibetans are richer than the Han Chinese ,and the central government provides many material benefits solutions to promote Tibet's economic development.

I can see no strength of the separists in Tibet .

Dalai Lama is old enough ,no much influence on the Tibet issue.

3 Taiwan

If without China mainland's support ,Taiwan will soon be weakened as for economic aspect.
Taiwanese would not expect the war ,and Taiwan's military force can not stand against the China mainland's second wave attack.

Finally, some body knocked some common sense into the China. China had to swallow the humble-pie and get in line :D.

India one up: China issues regular visa to J-K Univ VC

New Delhi: After raising India's hackles by issuing visa in a separate sheet of paper to several residents of Jammu and Kashmir, China issued a visa stamped on passport to former Jammu University Vice Chancellor Amitabh Mattoo, a domicile of the state, who visited the neghbouring country.

Mattoo, who had applied for a visa in the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi to attend an international conference on nuclear disarmament in China last month, had been given a regular stamped visa in his passport facilitating easy travel, Government sources said on Tuesday.

The noted Kashmiri Pandit academician was born in Jammu and Kashmir.

On several occasions in the recent past, the Chinese Embassy had given visas to residents of Jammu and Kashmir on separate sheets of paper instead of on their passports, inviting a sharp reaction from the Indian Government.

The Indian Government, while making it clear that it does not subscribe to this approach which discriminates on the basis of domicile, said travellers with only regular visa on passport will be allowed to travel to China.

The Government had also said that moderate Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is planning to go to China, will be stopped if his visa is on a stapled paper instead of passport.

they respect strength and firmness not "kindess"

They are simply pushing India to play Tibet card. They are also making lives of 25,000 Chinese workers in India lot harder who are in India on employment visa. India has already threatened a tit-for-tat, we can see some actions from Indian side if Chinese side persists.

India, China stand-off over separate visas- Politics/Nation-News-The Economic Times
it is a silly game on the part of a country that unfortunately also has a very childish side to them , sad but true.

i would like to raise a flag of notice that MMS said that PRC's assertiveness is something he cant ignore.... i believe this statement was made at the commonwealth summit in the port of spain.

it raises the possibility that MMS is not gonna play according to someone elses game but perhaps may define a separate set of rules - by india , and this is about time too., nevertheless well done MMS, he seems to be progressing from strength to strength - a necessary strategy for our neighbours, it seems

time to remove the gag ?

Ofcourse, the Dalai Lama is obligated to obey our rules in exchange for our hospitality, which at present include non-interference in political affairs as we remain on peaceful, economically salubrious terms with China.
thinking slightly outside the "box", but not too farout, we might be close to the time to un-gag the tibetan GIE ( gov in exile ) . With HH DL ageing and CPC's hope that with that their problems may end , india can show surprise initiative by removeing the gag and allowing them to shout.

that might be a nice bargaining chip too

Okay. So explain me how the Kingdom of Sikkim disappeared? Why the East Pakistan left the west? Tibet has been under Chinese sovereignty from the Mongolian Yuan, to Han Chinese Ming, to Manchu Qing and even as week as the Republic of China period. It never has gained its independence and NO country acknoledged it, even your India. If the Lama really loves Tibet, he should ask Tawang back, right? Later I'll try translating some observer's view on how India plays religion game in South Asia, If you want to read.

According to Reuters news agency and other media have recently reported: lasted for nearly two decades of so-called "Bhutanese refugees" problem, as the United States and Europe will begin to accept them immigrants, are expected to gradually be resolved within a few years. This issue relates to China and India in South Asia's geo-politics, but cause for concern.

The origin of the problem is a prime example of national subjugation and neighboring Bhutan: The original Buddhism, the majority of Sikkim has been "ethnic cleansing" in from Nepal and India, a large number of Hindu migrants to move into India, after being annexed. The Government of Bhutan then make a determined effort to expel the 100,000 similar to the modern Hindu immigrants and indigenous people, of which about 70000 back to Nepal, and the remaining 30000 stranded in India, the United Nations UNHCR problems.

Over the past few decades, India's limited economic and military strength, it can be handy in South Asia, not only within the constraints of the various separatist, but also made full use of the external separatist movement, expansion of their territories and spheres of influence .

First, India's support in 1971 against the United States and the Soviet Union, the dismemberment of Pakistan, leading to an independent Bangladesh. Another is the use of Hindu immigrants become masters in 1975, the annexation of the Independent State of Sikkim, Tibetan Buddhism, and threat to the survival of Buddhism in neighboring Bhutan.

Bhutan's "life and death threat" is also more than that. In 1974, under the direction of the Dalai Lama insisted not to join the Bhutanese nationality, Tibetan "refugees", instigated the murder of a King of Bhutan and then "seize power" of the coup plot, including the Dalai Lama's official representative in the country, including many "refugees "Thus was arrested by the Bhutanese authorities.

India's "three religions-take-all"

This "Bhutan's main security issues" ( "New Encyclopaedia Britannica," the phrase) is deep-seated reason for this is primarily due to believe in Bhutan, Tibetan Buddhism, Nyingma (Ningmapa, commonly known as the Red Sect), while the Dalai Lama "in exile Government "is almost the Gelug Sect (Yellow Sect) of the pre-eminence. From direct involvement in Bhutan at that time, "Incident" brother of the Dalai Lama's pro-Gyalo Toinzhub, fled in panic after the incident, India, New Delhi informed of this project will certainly coup.

Therefore, the use of Islam in India dismembered Pakistan's internal conflicts, the use of a large number of Hindu immigrants annexation of the Buddhist kingdom of Sikkim, but also the use of Tibetan Buddhism, Bhutan's internal affairs involved in factional conflict, and then as the Dalai Lama's "government in exile" Tibetan independence movement led by the host, described as " three religions-take-all "in the geopolitical full use of religious tools.

Thus look at China and India rise and fall of new forces in South Asia. First, Sino-Indian border dispute heating up due to the significant deterioration, especially in the eve of Obama's visit to China, the Dalai Lama went to India in the disputed region in the possession of South Wang, "preaching", significantly strengthened the dispute over the border in New Delhi The Licensing Board.

Followed by Nepal. Pro-Beijing orientation Maoist Prime Minister Prachanda coalition government took office only nine months, then the Government of India single-handedly planned and was forced to resign in May of this year. After prolonged political instability in Nepal, the Maoists have taken place in early December last demonstrators and "India in Nepal's most loyal ally" - the bloody conflict between government forces in Nepal. In accordance with the recent "Economist" magazine saying, rather than by the Maoist-led democratic government, India would prefer to see a military dictatorship, to continue under the control of Nepal in New Delhi.

No longer be under pressure in India, Bangladesh, in early December to extradite to each other the "United Liberation Front of Assam," the President Lakehuowa (Arabi nda Rajkhowa) and other separatist leaders, as appeasement of Assam's independence movement in New Delhi important achievement.

India's new government has also resolved the earlier Obama to Afghanistan - Pakistan war and the new policy of linking the Kashmir issue, forcing Washington to abandon this "package" settlement of the Afghan - Pakistan plans to Islamic extremism, successfully prevented the Kashmir issue in international of.

In contrast, Beijing's South Asia region's "soft power" able to be clumsy. Tawang even behind the Dalai Lama went to India, the Chinese an unusual invitation to Kashmiri separatist leader Farooq (Mirwaiz Umar Farooq) visit to Beijing, apparently to give New Delhi a tit for tat diplomatic signals. However, faced with the threat of separatism in Xinjiang, "Kashmir card" for Beijing is a risky double-edged sword: the Kashmiri separatist movement with Pakistan and Afghanistan, as well as the Xinjiang independence organization Islamic extremist groups have a relationship, the United States in the war in Afghanistan captured a number of Uighur staff are good.

In Nepal and India are still in the ascendant of the Maoist rebel forces, it would have been a very good diplomacy, "ko", Beijing was then a legislator, did not dare to regain long abandoned the "exporting revolution" policy be used.

The greatest historical paradox, in the face of India, encroachment around the McMahon Line expansion, China's soft power would have been great to compete: three dynasties of Yuan 600 for many years to foster the historical achievements of Tibetan Buddhism, from Beijing's Lama Temple , Wutai Mountain, and Mount Putuo and the deep roots of Tibetan Buddhism, the Chinese senior monks of "sects, Tibetan," a profound self-cultivation, to Tibetan Buddhism in China and Taiwan today, many believers, the original is available in abundant soft power resources. But Beijing today has Taiedaochi, he was engulfed by the Buddhist kingdom of Sikkim, India, in turn played the "Tibetan Buddhism card." It is worth reflecting on the lessons.

Sikkim accepted a merger with India through a popular referendum. Please read up on history. If they weren't happy with being part of India, they would have revolted, like some in India's other northeastern states. But they haven't. What does that tell you?

East Pakistan became Bangladesh because the Pakistan Army perpetrated a genocide on the Bengali population. Please read up on the event-use any source of your choice-Amnesty, the international press or the Bangladesh government's official history. Hell, even the Pakistanis acknowledge the massacres......

Correction. Tibet has been under Chinese suzerainty-not sovereignty. At no time was Tibet ever directly ruled from Beijing, and you are welcome to prove otherwise. Tibet's relationship with China was similar to that of today's Bhutan with India. It was a protectorate.

If India invaded Bhutan today and made it part of India, I'm sure China would not keep quiet.

Read up on history written by who, by India or by Sikkim, or by China?
Only history written by India denies your outrageous invasion to Sikkiom and your illegal annexation of Sikkim.

You should read up on history!

So people in other northeastern states you mentioned above are not happy with India, then why not India let them go, let them gain independences they are fighting for?

You're welcome to visit Sikkim yourself and ask the people there if they'd rather be a separate country. Will that satisfy you? I haven't seen a Sikkimise government in exile or the mass murder or destruction of Sikkimise temples by the GoI. Have you? Got any proof to show that the Sikkimese are being treated badly?

China in any case has no standing in the matter. The Sikkimese people voted to join the Indian Union, and there has been no violence since.

That's more than can be said about Tibet. You know, with the annihilition of Tibetian culture by the CCP and all.

"Some people". There's no mass movement against India. There are still regular elections in those states, and MPS are elected by those people to represent their interests in the Indian Parliament. I know the concept is foreign to you, but in India, as in any democracy, we solve problems with debate and discussion, not with guns and repression.

It's funny to hear a Chinese person lecture Indians about freedom. First achieve the freedom to elect your own leaders and then lecture other democracies about their deficiencies.

Besides, Sikkim was a protectorate of India before the annexation, just like Tibet was of China. The only difference is, the Sikkimese voted to join India, while China brutally occupied Tibet and oppressed the Tibetians, never asking if they wanted to be part of China. It was and still is an illegal occupation.

Why do i need to visit Sikkim? Even if the people in Sikkim are not revolting now, even if there is no Sikkimise government in exile now, it doesnt justify your illegal annexation of Sikkim in the past. The legitimacy of Indian's sovereignty over Sikkim is still controversial.

China in any case has no standing in the matter. The Sikkimese people voted to join the Indian Union, and there has been no violence since.
No violence? Indian army forced the king of Sikkim to sign unfair treaty with India, just like the evil British Empire did to China, and you call that non-violence?

How about Indians lecturing us on Chinese history? Is it funny?
I am not lecturing you on freedom and democracy, and i will never do that, apparently Indians know more about freedom than me. Plus, the democracy of India is too perfect to be challenged. But your sovereignity over Sikkim can not be recoginsed by every one as your democracy is.

Who requires chicom ******* to recognize anything,it might as well that stop their annual moaning and whining about Indian occupying chicom territory. This stapled visa affair.if anything, has reduced the ******* to a laughing stock in the diplomatic world.......During a conversation with a consular staff(from a middle eastern country),he wondered why a confident and self assured China when it comes to diplomatic repartee's with western countries, bungles up so badly when it comes to India. In recent years the Chinese diplomatic corps have been, to borrow the expression, 'L'Enfant Terrible

Do not check-in passengers with stapled Chinese Visa: DGCA

31 Dec 2009, 1531 hrs IST, PTI

NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has instructed all airlines not to check-in any passenger who has a Chinese visa stapled on his or her passport.

The instruction, issued late last evening, asks all airlines to "ensure that they do not check-in any passenger with stapled Chinese visa on their passports," official sources said here.

The DGCA instruction comes weeks after India declared as "invalid" the standalone paper visas given by the Chinese embassy here and consulates in Mumbai and Kolkata to Indians from Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh.

A travel advisory issued by the External Affairs Ministry last month asked those going to China to ensure that their visas are pasted on their passports. "Such paper visas stapled to the passport are not considered valid for travel out of the country," it said.

Following the advisory, the Civil Aviation Ministry issued a directive that passengers holding stapled visas should not be checked-in for travel out of India.

In November, New Delhi had slammed this practice of issuing separate visas "to certain categories of Indian nationals on the basis of their domicile, ethnicity and/or place of issue of the passport".

India also took up the issue with China at the highest levels. Apparently, the Chinese embassy has not stopped the practice, which has provoked New Delhi to issue the travel advisory rendering separate visas as invalid.
