It seems that something is cooking up with Kalashnikov RUSSIA.

Indian delegation visited Kalashnikov factory on December 2016 :

The Kalashnikov Group which is incorporated in the State Corporation Rostec has received the delegation from the Embassy of the Republic of India in the Russian Federation headed by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary H.E. Mr. Pankaj Saran.

The representatives of the Embassy have examined the modernized production facilities and products manufactured by the Kalashnikov Group. The parties have discussed the development of the bilateral ties including the organization of a joint venture production in India.

After visiting the manufacturing facilities, the Indian delegation has been shown the presentation of the most advanced small arms models, and the unmanned aerial vehicles produced by ZALA AERO.

Is there an agreement with partners in India over launching the production the AK-100 assault rifles?

-" The way I see it, we have already identified a partner that looks interested and is capable of doing that. I hope that we will conclude a specific agreement this year and we will move on towards its practical implementation.(2017)" -Kalashnikov’s CEO Aleksey Krivoruchko.

India, Russia Likely To Co-produce Kalashnikov AK-100 Rifles This Year

The licence production of the Kalashnikov Series 100 assault rifle to be launched in India
Russian Kalashnikov, which claims to have found a partner in India, is likely to sign agreement this year to launch co-production of AK-100 assault rifles.

“The way I see it, we have already identified a partner that looks interested and is capable of doing that.” Kalashnikov Concern Chief Executive Aleksey Krivoruchko said in an interview to TASS news agency Tuesday.

I hope that we will conclude a specific agreement this year and will move on towards its practical implementation,” he added.

The company might launch joint production of automatic weapons in cooperation with a local partner. According to the earlier announcement in 2015, the concern has plans of manufacturing 50,000 rifles a year with a view to building up output further, if necessary, he added.

Meanwhile Rosoboronexport Deputy Chief Executive Sergey Goreslavsky said, licensed production of the AK-100 family of assault rifles might be launched in India after the testing of experimental samples in the country,

During 2014 October, India’s Ishapore rifle factory had designed an assault rifle based on the Russian AK-47. The prototype of this weapon had successfully cleared field trials by the Army, the Indian Air Force and the Sashastra Seema Bal.

A prototype 7.62 x 51 mm assault rifle developed by the Ordnance Factory Board is headed into Army trials this month. This is being sepaculated to be totally a new rifle . There are only a few 7.62 rifles made by OFB like Ghatak, M1M , MCIWS (which is to be redesigned , some says already fielded in limited no to evaluate it's capability in real time)which are mostly discarded . India currently is looking for a 7.62 rifle (foreign one) to be deployed as standard issue.

To be frank,I want to see an Assault Rifle with two receiver sections, hold in place by captive pins (Very much similar to AR-15) in hands of our Jawans as next Standard Issue Rifle.

My wishlist:

1 Floating barrel - will make a lot of difference in accuracy.

2 Full top cover rail - Provide real estate for a variety of accessories.

3 Adjustable stock - One size does not fit all.

4 Effective muzzle break - For recoil reduction and control in full auto .

5 Weight - Not exceeding 4 kg, less than 3.5 would be awesome.

6 Piston driven system - reliability.

7 Should not be too fat or too long- ergonomic to use.

8 Transparent or translucent magazine ,or at least one with windows - to keep track of the rounds left.

9 Ambidextrous - Ease of use.

10 Different barrel length variant - SBR,Standard,Marksman.

11 Prevent overheating - ways to prevent overheating under intense firing.

Rifles from which OFB should take inspiration:

AK 12

Scar H

Galil ace

AR 15

AEK 971

SLR 1A1

Insas 1C

OFB develops new rifle for army in quick time

NAGPUR: Responding to army's call to get a new high calibre assault rifle, the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) has developed a weapon on a fast track basis. In normal course, it takes around a year at least to come up with a new weapon. But the assault rifle was ready in six months. The rifle of 7.62x51 calibre operates on the rotating bolt model, same as the legendary AK-47. However, the OFB gun has a higher calibre compared to AK-47 which is a 7.62x39 rifle.

The guns will be manufactured at Rifle Factory Ishapore (RFI) in West Bengal, said director general of OFB S C Bajpai. He was in city to address the valedictory function of Indian Ordnance Factory Service (IOFS) officers at the National Academy of Defence Production (NADP).

Bajpai said an internal trial of the weapon would be held next month. Thereafter, in May, the rifle would be offered to the project evaluation committee that has members of army too. The user trials by the army are expected this year itself.

Bajpai said in the initial stage it was found the gun had a higher recoil which hampered the comfort of the user. A buffer has been developed through DRDO to bring down the recoil, he said.
INSAS, which was used in the Kargil war, is being replaced and the army wants rifles of 7.62 calibre which have a higher lethality. The 5.56 mm bullet used in INSAS generally does not kill the enemy, instead leaves them injured. The theory is wounding the enemy is more effective in a war as it takes several other soldiers to evacuate the injured, thus reducing the enemy strength. However, in counter insurgency and anti-terror operations, the army prefers a bullet that kills, said an ordnance factory source.

=====================================================================================

1 It was developed in six months.

2 It has a rotating bolt .

3 It will have a buffer to reduce recoil.

Recoil is an important factor in a 7.62x51mm rifle ,in addition to the buffer they should also design a muzzle brake to reduce the perceived recoil, also look at the ak 107 counter balance mechanism .(It will add complexity but still worth to have a look at it)

Simple yet effective.

It's a precision rifle or DMR, not a assault rifle.

Ak107 is strictly for their SF, their normal troops will get mixture of AK 12 and Aek 545/762
Russian regular troops would use 5.45x39mm rifles where recoil is not a major factor. Our soldiers will be using 7.62x51mm rifles where recoil is a big factor especially in sustained firing.

I wish we go for a bullpup design, since modern combat will range from open fields, jungles ,mountains to build up areas in cities, villages .While 7.62x51mm round will provide range and power for open areas a bullpup design would provide desired maneuverability in urban combat. We need both.

Something in line with keltec RFB:

Billups have major balance problems as center of gravity is way behind and also this leads to higher barrel rise. Also they are more complex

I am not saying bullpup are perfect, having said that most modern bullpup are refined and they do not have any " major" problems. With most of the weight at rear they are more easy to hold for a longer period of time ,as most of the weight is transferred to the shoulder and your stronger arm.Since front of the rifle is light it is easier to maneuver with your weaker support arm for long duration.

In fact with their weight at the rear they are easier to balance:

Barrel rise can be controlled with a hybrid muzzle brake/compensator.

Yes ,they are complex ,but it's not "rocket science" complex.Modern bullpup such as Tavor has shown that they are second to none in reliability.Regarding takedown and mechanism it is not more difficult/complex than SCAR H .

A well designed modern bullpup is simple, reliable, and accurate as any other rifle.

Why are the French,British and the Chinese abandoning their Bullpup ?Yes their are excellent bullpup like travor ,F2000 and AUG but they still have problem.
Since the center of weight is backwards the muzzle flip is higher and most of the energy is transferred to shoulder that why bullpup have a thick rubber pad. Also both hands are close to each other and donot make a very stable platform. Bullpup are suited for some enviroments only and are best left to SF, no need to give them to common solider
