RAIPUR: On 84th anniversary ofIndian Air Force, the Anti-NaxalTask Force of IAF in Chhattisgarh celebrated the day with enthusiasm on Saturday at its detachments in Raipur, Jagdalpur and Ranchi as well.

In order to commemorate the occasion in a befitting manner, several functions were held in the run up to the Air Force Day which included the oath taking ceremony conducted with full military traditions.

In a meticulously conducted hollow square parade at the Mana Airport at Raipur, the Task Force Commander, Air Commodore Ajay Shukla, Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) administered the oath of allegiance to all Air Force personnel as well as IAF's civilian employees.

In his personal message to the personnel of the Task Force and their families, he commended the efforts put in by the Air Warriors to help the Task Force achieve its assigned task- that of assisting the State Police and Central Armed Para Military Forces in anti naxal operations.

The Air Commodore Shukla highlighted issues like operational and maintenance safety, cyber security and discipline. He said that Indian Air Force today is known for its professionalism, competence and core values of "Mission, Integrity, Excellence". IAF has rapidly evolved into a very formidable force.
In this, the Anti Naxal Task Force has proved its mettle time and again and the gallant role played by its aircrew has been roundly complimented by all. Air Commodore Shukla exhorted all personnel to rededicate themselves to the service of the nation.

Since its inception in 2009, the IAF task force has carried out close to 19000 sorties flying 14,500 hours, lifting a herculean 1900 tonnes of load and airlifting 83,000 troops and passengers. The task force has also recovered about 1000 casualties and lifted 400 mortal remains, besides providing training on slithering operations to 6800 commandos. It is also called upon regularly for election and flood relief operations.

The Task Force remains in a constant state of readiness, in particular for timely evacuation of injured soldiers from naxal infested areas. Air Commodore tells that even on 8th October, as he was administering the oath to his air warriors, one of his helicopter was airborne to Sukma to extricate five seriously injured CRPF troops to Raipur. The troops had been injured in a major road mishap.

21 Maoists killed on Odisha-Andhra border

The encounter was a joint operation between the Greyhounds of AP and Odisha police. Police patrolling a street in Vizinagaram in this file photo.

This is the second major encounter and the biggest in Malkangiri district of Odisha and one of the major incidents on the Andhra-Odisha border area.
Twenty-one members of the banned CPI (Maoist) were killed in an encounter with a combined team of the Andhra Pradesh and Odisha police near Jantri in Malkangiri district of Odisha, a few km away from the border with Andhra Pradesh, in the early hours of Monday.

Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev Sharma told The Hindu that it was a joint operation by the Greyhounds (special anti-naxalite force of Andhra Pradesh) and the Odisha police. A few top leaders of the Maoist party might be among the dead, but it would take some time to confirm the same, Mr. Sharma said. Two constables were injured in the encounter.

Four AK-47 rifles, three self-loading rifles (SLR), and some other guns were among the goods seized from the spot of encounter. According to police sources, the exchange of fire occurred at Bejing jungle between Panasput and Ramgarh of this cut-off area. The bodies of the Maoists are likely to be shifted to Chitrakonda in Odisha on the AP border for post mortem.

“The exchange of fire occurred near Balimela reservoir in Odisha,” Director General of Police N. Sambasiva Rao, told The Hindu. A combing police party from the two States noticed the Maoists moving in forests in Malkanagiri area and the exchange of fire erupted, he said.

“We suspect that Maoists of Odisha and AP assembled in forests for a plenary, as many weapons were seized from the spot. Some top Maoist leaders were killed and a few most wanted extremists escaped from the scene. Police can give exact number of deaths later,” said Mr. Rao. The injured Greyhounds constables are being shifted to King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam by helicopters.

“We have intensified combing in the Andhra-Odisha border forests. The injured constables are out of danger,” the DGP said.

Combing operation

It is suspected that Uday, a top Maoist of Odisha, was among those killed in the operation. But it has not been confirmed. As per the Malkangiri district police, search operation was on in the area and extra force was being sent to the area to intensify the combing operation.

Basing on intelligence reports that a group of around 100 Maoists had gathered in this remote area of Malkangiri district, the joint operation was planned up by the Odisha and Andhra Pradesh police. The Maoist group was part of Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC), led by Ramkrishna alias RK. He was reportedly among those present and he reportedly escaped.

Second major encounter

This is the second major encounter and the biggest in Malkangiri district and one of the major incidents on the Andhra-Odisha border area. Thirteen Maoists were killed in an encounter with the police in September 2013 in Podia block in Malkangiri district.

This operation is a major success for security forces, as this district happens to be a major transit zone of Maoists and it borders naxalite-infested areas of Andhra and Chhatisgarh. During the past one year, the strength of Maoists and their support base in Malkangiri had dwindled due to surrender of hundreds of Maoist supporters, including militias. It is suspected that the Maoists had gathered up in a cut-off area of Malkangiri district to re-strengthen their base.

Chitrakonda Reservoir a Maoist stronghold

On October 1, Maoists hijacked boats meant for public transport across the Chitrakonda Reservoir to force the inhabitants of the cut-off area of the reservoir to travel to a meeting organised by extremists at Jantri village to re-strengthen their dwindling base.

The Chitrakonda Reservoir happens to be a major Maoist stronghold due to its inaccessibility. Maoist opposition has delayed the construction of the Gurupriya Bridge that could provide direct road communication to over 150 villages in this cut-off area of the reservoir.

Construction of the bridge is in full swing now under tight security and Maoists are much worried about it and under the leadership of RK are trying hard to reclaim their clout of terror in the area and continue to use it as safe transit zone.

On June 29, 2008, Maoists ambushed a boat carrying Greyhound jawans in the reservoir at Alampaka. Thirty eight persons, including 35 Greyhound jawans from Andhra Pradesh, died in this attack.

Now they are wiped out..from ap/tg..thanks to the man IPS vaays, who created grey hounds
Yup, and now most of them formed their own gangs and into extortion rackets.

The chap that got killed in Hyderabad couple of months back is an example.

Even in 90's they were behaving like extortion rackets, I was living in Rajahmundry at that time. Many of my friends who were business families used to say that every month, hafta vasooli used to happen in the name of annalu.

Too many Telugu leaders in Naxal ranks. I wonder why.
Andhra Pradesh is the main base or HQ for Naxals.
Andhra was the place where Naxals started to operate at begining.
After resistance from Andhra Police ( Grey Hound Force) many ran to Odisha and Chatisgarh.

Nope 70% are from reserved section. Even some of them are degree holders from Andhra University in Visakhapatnam.
Cadres yes, in fact a substantial proportion of them are Christians and crypto-Christians. Naxalis are basically the armed wing of the church.

But the topmost leaders, the idealogues, the members of the so-called central committee are largely elites.

This is one of the situations where I think there needs to be a movement to hoover up the reasons behind the attack - a.k.a classism.

It brings me back to the Buddhist-inspired movement that could attract these voters, especially if it got the support of East Asian countries and people like the Dalai Lama. It could even attract private donors from China.

Issues relating to internal security should be dealt with separately from external security, through paramilitaries and gendarmeries. The powers to control such entities should be held at state level and be overseen at federal level through a federal security council.

JNU & Delhi University Professor , Maoists booked for tribal man's murder
Nov 8, 2016, 11.02AM IST PTI

RAIPUR: A Delhi University Professor has been booked along with Maoists and others on charges of murder of a tribal villager in the insurgency-hit Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, police said on Tuesday.

"An FIR was lodged against DU Professor Nandini Sundar, Archana Prasad (JNU Professor), Vineet Tiwari (from Delhi's Joshi Adhikar Sansthan), Sanjay Parate (Chhattisgarh CPI (Marxist) State Secretary) and others along with Maoists for the murder of Baghel based on the complaint of his wife on Saturday," Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) SRP Kalluri said.

They were booked under section 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 302 (murder), 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 and 149 of IPC at Tongpal police station, the IG said adding, "strongest possible action will be taken against those guilty after the investigation".

Though the case was registered on Saturday, the matter came to light late Monday evening.

Armed Naxals had allegedly killed the villager, Shamnath Baghel, with sharp weapons on late night on Friday (November 4) at his residence in Nama village under Kumakoleng gram panchayat in Tongpal area, around 450 kms away from here.

Baghel and some of his associates were spearheading the protest against Naxal activities in their village since April this year.

"As per the complaint lodged by the victim's wife, her husband had been getting threats from Maoists since he and other villagers had complained against Sundar in May this year. Even armed ultras were referring to that complaint and anti-Maoist demonstrations while attacking Baghel on Friday," the IG said.

His wife has sought action against Sundar and others accusing them of murdering her husband
, Kalluri added.

Notably, Baghel and other villagers of the region had earlier given a complaint with Tongpal police in May this year against Sundar, Prasad, Tiwari, Parate and an unidentified woman activist from Sukma for allegedly inciting innocent tribals against the government and seeking their support for Maoists.

Villagers of Nama and the neighbouring Kumakoleng village (both under Kumakoleng village panchayat) had started a self-motivated protest against Maoist activities in their villages after forming its own security group named "Tangiya (axe) group" in April this year.

"Following the development, according to villagers, Sundar and others went in the village to allegedly threaten them not to oppose the Maoists," the IG said.

Sundar had gone to the village with fake name Richa Keshav, he added.

A letter was then written to the Vice Chancellors of both DU and JNU informing that Bastar police was conducting an inquiry against both the professors following complaint received against them, he added.
