Jharkhand, February 21 (ANI): A group of Maoists targeted a site of bridge under construction and beat up the labourers near Barwadih in Latehar district of Jharkhand on Sunday. The group consisting of around ten ultras attacked Paira village and disrupted the construction process of a small culvert. According to the locals the armed Maoists forced the labourers to stop the construction work and even physically attacked and injured a couple of them at the site. Police officials who had earlier been informed of Maoist activities in the area reached the sot, and were confronted by the rebels who open fired at the security personnel.

Is it surprising that the Malkangiri collector abducted by Maoists was a former member of the All India Students federation (AISF), the student arm of CPI(M)? It's not very difficult to imagine a sympathetic government official colluding with terrorists to facilitate the release of their comrades

DGM killed for 'anti-worker' policies: Maoists

WARANGAL: While the Maoists said they were responsible for killing the AP Rayons DGM Ramakrishna in Mangapet on Monday, police were on the defensive as they were worried that it would show the district force in poor light.

While police are still clueless as to which Naxal group had killed the DGM, Maoists on Tuesday night released a letter claiming that Ramakrishna was eliminated for his `anti-worker' policies in the AP Rayons factory, also known as Ballarpur Industries Limited (BILT). The letter, released in the name of KKW secretary Sudhakar, said Ramakrishna was warned before for pursuing anti-worker policies and for failing to implement wage structure fro the workers. "He paid the price for his anti-worker stance," the Maoist party said.

Sources said cops were also in the know of the letter as it was the factory security guard who spilled the beans. "The guard was taken away by the cops and after grilling, he told the cops that he was threatened by the Maoists of dire consequences if he revealed their entry into the Kamalapur factory on Monday evening," sources said. The Maoists entered the factory premises, killed the DGM in his chambers and escaped later.

There is a positive impact of the naxal violence, it has reduced the arrogance and high-handedness of the police and the administration, they know they are not the "chosen ones" to rule India, politicos know that they might be next if they go too far in exploiting the farmers and poor. State cannot pull out a Bhatta Parsaul in naxal effected areas without suffering heavy payback.

On the darker side, Maoists are just as much power hungry, as much corrupt as the people they are fighting against. Modern naxal movement is nothing but an organized gang of criminals taking advantage of the situation. I believe with the economic progress and fair treatment of all citizens influence of naxals will gradually decrease, for them poverty, disease and backwardness is the breeding ground.

That's one humongous load of tosh. Neither politicos nor bureaucrats or senior police officials have lost their arrogance or anything else because of Naxalites. It's the junior level officers who are sacrificed as canon fodder while these seniors keep making merry. Naxals are nothing but their proxies in land ad resource grab. So if anything their arrogance has increased because they have struck gold.

Most Naxal leaders are not impoverished or those from discriminated backgrounds. On the contrary they are rich and/or upper caste/class thugs exploiting the common folk. The root of the problem is population explosion. Poverty, disease and backwardness come much later.
