Prasad, posted as a Naval Aircraft Mechanic Class I in the Navy’s Aircraft Maintenance Unit in Mumbai, was picked up from the New Delhi Railway Station on Tuesday before he boarded a train to Mumbai. He was on leave at the time. At the time of his arrest, Prasad was allegedly carrying a bunch of incriminating documents including photographs of different military installations in North India. He was apparently on his way to Mumbai to hand these documents to his ISI handler. The police said some of the photographs were of Hindon Airbase and Meerut Cantonment. “We have also recovered hand drawn maps indicating locations of different vital installations at the base,†said a senior police officer. Prasad, police said, seemed to have been recruited by the ISI at least two years back and had been leaking important and confidential Naval documents. Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) P.N. Aggarwal said, “We have arrested a person under the Official Secrets Act (OSA). Investigations are on. We cannot divulge details of the kind of documents he was carrying.†Initial investigations and interrogations revealed that he had covertly visited different installations in Northern India. “In some places he even used his naval identity card to gain access,†added the officer. The police is trying to ascertain if he had any accomplices. They are also looking into his ISI links in India. Prasad was produced before a magistrate and remanded to five-days’ custody.
