Unbelievable! Coalition of Fund Foundation will operate an Amphibious Assault Ship! How many countries have this capability? And here you have a private NGO!

These ships can be refurbished for naval ops.

A very good initiative but how much time will this ship take to reach from Miami to Philippines in case of emergency?

In cases of typhoons I don't see much problem since we know several days in advance before it makes landfall. So if a typhoon like Hiyan is detected early on then the ship should have several days head start on the way to the locales where the typhoon will devastate. But in cases of earthquakes and tsunamis then they cannot be forwarned in advance. It will take this ship several days to reach PAcific countries.

I don't think the Coalition of Hope really grasps the cost of maintaining/operating these things, especially when it's so old.
