NAL Mahindra NM5
Cant say what the range, but it can be mounted with FLIR pods and communication gear..Kunal, what say that this aircraft could be damn useful for BSF and Coast Guard (with seaplane modifications)?
Why doesn't IAF buy these for basic trainers rather than engage costly foreign made imports? Have they even evaluated these? I mean basic trainers are for rookie pilots to familiarize them with basics of flying. Why do we need Grobs, Texans, Tucanos etc?NAL Mahindra NM5

The Turbo-prop powered HTT-34
The turboprop powered HTT-34 which was developed as a private venture by HAL. The 313kW (420shp) Allison 250-B17D powered HTT-34 flew for the first time, in a converted HTP-32 prototype form, on 17 June 1984. The new engine significantly boasted performance on the the basic aircraft, but was cancelled as official interest was not forthcoming.
HTT-35 advanced turboprop
yes they should also consider project on developing Jumbo Jet, may be compete with Boeing, Airbus on commercial front.Good to see NAL becoming ambitious, hope it completes the stuff on time.
Yes, but first let them come up with a smaller aircraft that is at par with international products of comparable capacity. It would be nice to have collaboration with foreign companies. The Sukhoi Superjet 100 can be a benchmark for quality.yes they should also consider project on developing Jumbo Jet, may be compete with Boeing, Airbus on commercial front.
HAL and ADA are far better equipped to take on Fighter jet and Helicopter developments.aren't NAL Scientists, facilities better end up working on basic technologies for military aircraft? or contribute to HAL, DRDO for various defence projects?
Military is having countless number of requirements and will continue to come up in future. imagine the various technologies required to master for meeting armed forces requirement.
They say DRDO has high attrition and shortage of qualified scientists
now NAL is coming up with a commercial 70 seat airliner?
to meet requirement of what? Air India, Kingfisher?
They have considerably contributed to Military Aviation R&D in past and should continue to do so. It should be given highest priority over any commercial aircraft project.
i did read few times of NALs significant contribution to design, materials, wind tunnel testing of LCA. Let them continue to contribute the design of many of defence aircraft being developed by HAL/DRDO. UCAVs, Helicopters, Stealth aircraft, Ballistic missiles etc so many projects they can contribute to.HAL and ADA are far better equipped to take on Fighter jet and Helicopter developments.
NAL has received very little investment in comparison , they don't have anywhere neat the capabilities or facilities or even technical expertise.
For NAL the RTA-90 is an opportunity to actually work on big project and get some investment , MOD has always favored HAL for investment.
In the long run NAL's work with the RTA-90 could lead to range or Cargo , refueling and AWACS platform aircraft for our forces.
First saw in the livefist, thought to post the link of NAL in here,
