Innovative but dry expensive. Video linkup can do the job for very less money.

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi's hi-tech 3D campaign extravaganza has come under attack from the opposition and the Congress has decided to move the Election Commission seeking a probe on its source of funding.

Opposition parties have criticized the 3D holographic projection campaign using which Modi yesterday addressed four election rallies in as many cities simultaneously.

"This extravaganza could have been avoided. The cost involved, as per our information, was Rs 5 crore for each projection and they are planning to use it in all assembly constituencies (182) of the state," Gujarat Congress chief Arjun Modhwadia said on Monday.

"We will request the Election Commission to probe the source of funding for such an extravaganza. The money spent behind this campaign can be used for providing education to students, serve those who are suffering from serious diseases or help the farmers," he said.

"The BJP, through its 'dhan dan' (money donation) programme, collected Rs 500 crore from the people of Gujarat which is being used for such a campaign," he claimed, adding, "Actually, Modi has failed to deliver on his promises and hence using such gimmicks to woo voters."

Gujarat Parivartan Party leader Gordhan Zadafia said, "As per information available with us, $1,000,000 is the cost of 3D holographic projection at one site. Modi spent around Rs 65 crore for yesterday's programme."

"This money could have been used to help farmers who are committing suicide, but this chief minister is only interested in building his image."

CPM leader Brinda Karat also flayed Modi for spending crores on campaigning through 3D technology. "When the state government has done nothing, they have to resort to such tactics. To magnify whatever little work they have done, the state is spending crores on 3D technology."

Modi's speech was telecast on specially erected screens in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot and Surat with the help of 3D holographic technology and satellite link-ups. The BJP leader claimed this was first such election campaign anywhere in the world.

I think there is a limit to the expense that can be made. Though always manipulated, some extravaganza like this cannot be hidden.

About the cost, the one with Tupac cost 100 to 500 thousand dollars, so the Congis aren't that far off in the cost department. Expensive.

Kya feeling ho rahi hai ?? 92 seats lani hai aur satte me 95 me to BJP fix hai, congress ko 50 di hai. Baki 40 me dekhna hai. Usme se atleast 20 to aa jayegi. 110+ is verygood. And opinion polls 133,128 already bata rahe hai. Don't fall in trap spreaded by congis who claim they distributed 50 lac forms. It's just a false figure. I bet it's around 15-20 lacs only.Don't worry, it's a hat-trick for Modi.

Like him or hate him, he is one tech savy person.

If the congress had thought of this before they would have used it.

Some cases of suicide reported recently because of drought situation initially but then everything became all right. Those who did it were nothing but stupid, govt just announced the relief and c patti took over them. Gujarat Samachar made a lot of noise of this. When 4 cows died, it printed that news on front page.Seriously, these newspapers must be shut down. Spreading lie everyday.

Modi seems to have a penchant for new frontiers.

Does great for his record book so that he can notch it up as one more achievement for Gujarat under his watch!

This idea would gladden the hearts of many Gujaratis that they are pace setters and hence a great political vote tool.

It has however put others in an uncomfortable situation wherein attempts will be made to make him look a bit red-faced with a whole lot of new accusations.

But Modi is a wise and clever Joe. By the time the investigations results are in, the elections would be over and the whole issue will be lost in memory!
