Narayan Rane's son Nitesh detained for toll booth damage

Maharashtra Revenue Minister Narayan Rane's son Nitesh Rane was detained on Tuesday at the Goa- Maharashtra border after he allegedly led a group which damaged a toll booth and assaulted workers of the state Public Works Department.

Police officials said a convoy of cars headed by Nitesh attacked the toll booth installed by the Goa government at Pernem village.

Trouble began when toll booth workers demanded toll fees from Rane's car and other cars following him.

"We have received complaints that three workers were arrested and a toll booth was damaged. The police swung into action and detained a group of people including Nitesh Rane," the police said.

A large number of Rane supporters had gathered at the border checkpost and also at Pernem police station.

Kennedys are lambkins compared to our 'leaders' & their brood.

The closest American equivalent would be the worst specimens from 'Godfather'.

Bad luck the critter forgot the toll booth was in Goa and not his dad's fief Maharashtra. Nice of the Goa police to extend their hospitality in the police lockup.

And hope the entire treatment cost/compensation for toll booth staff is realized from him and also the repair cost of the booth premises.

    Way to go Goa!!

Indian toll roads are like 10-15 rupees for personal vehicles. That is change I wouldn't bother to pick-up yet these poor kids can't even pay.

Most new highways have tolls to the tune of 1-300 Rs for cars.

Narayan Rane called me, requested his son be released: Goa CM - The Times of India

MUMBAI/PANAJI: Maharashtra industries minister Narayan Rane had called him up requesting the release of his son Nitesh, said Goa CM Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday. Nitesh was arrested in Goa on Tuesday for vandalizing a toll booth at Dhargalim, near the border between the states, after a row.

Parrikar said he told Rane to move court for bail and to stop his supporters from creating a law and order situation in Goa. Rane was very polite and told him he had already told his supporters to come back to Maharashtra.

In Mumbai, five persons were arrested on Wednesday for vandalizing private buses, some of them meant to ply to Goa, on Tuesday night, but no headway seems to have been made over an attack on Goa Bhavan in Juhu around the same time. The arrested are members of Nitesh's Swabhimaan Sanghatana (SS).

Parrikar, who also holds the Goa home portfolio, denied suggestions he had been soft on Nitesh. "Do you think police did not inform me before arresting him? I told them to proceed in accordance with the law," Parrikar said. Nitesh got bail late on Tuesday from the judicial magistrate (first class) in Mapusa. By Wednesday, all arrested for the toll booth row had got bail. Sources said Nitesh, with MP brother Nilesh, reported to Pernem police station.

In a ripple effect, Swabhimaan workers led by Sagar Pandit from Dahisar reached Borivli Link Road near Mhatre Tower at 10.45pm on Tuesday and targeted Goa-bound buses of Neeta Travels.

Around 70 buses of the firm were parked on a plot off the road. "The armed group threatened the manager and drivers and smashed the front and rear windscreens and some windows of five buses," said senior inspector Suresh Kilje, MHB Colony police.

On Neeta's complaint, the police arrested Pandit, 32, Vaibhav Gangan, 19, Deepak Rajpasare 19, Sameer Deshpande, 26, and Vijay Londhe, 28. They have been remanded to police custody till Thursday. Pandit has a past case of assault against his name.

"Neeta Travels operates buses to various parts of the country and not just Goa. They had nothing to do with Nitesh's arrest. We registered a case against the accused under non-bailable sections 427, 506 (ii) of IPC for rioting and intimidation," said Kilje. The travel firm apparently suffered losses of up to Rs 5 lakh.

In Juhu's Goa Bhavan, a security guard was present when four men came around 11.45pm on Tuesday. They damaged a board and two lamps at the entrance before running away. Parrikar said in Panaji an FIR has been filed.

The main control room, which flashes messages to all police stations in the city in case of an emergency, was unaware about the attack for about an hour. Amboli police station senior inspector, who was on night duty in the area, reached at 1.30am. Sources said the culprits belonged to SS, but the police have not been able to confirm their identities and registered a case of trespassing and damaging public property against four unknown persons.

    Times View

The refusal to pay toll is symptomatic of how many people, who enjoy some political clout, feel about rules and where they stand vis-a-vis the law of the land. But the response in Mumbai is as shocking; there cannot be anything more mindless and idiotic than pelting stones at buses just because they are bound for Goa and threatening violence at Goa Bhavan.

This hooliganism marks a new low, even by the standards our politicians have set for themselves.

Till now Delhi was known for this kind of hooliganism

Where every Tom, Dick or Harish ( Harry) will turn around & tell a policeman / any other person when in a tight situation,

" Jaanta nahin mein kaun hun" ( "you do not know who am I" ) more so the politicians brood / hangers on.

Now this phenomenon is spreading far & wide.

In lighter vein, most Delhi policemen are sturdy Haryanvis known for their sharp sense of humour

They turn around & reply in chaste Haryanvi (local dialect), " Haan bhai tu mere gaon ka chaudhary se" ( yes brother you seem to be my village head man) & go about taking action against the offender as they deem appropriate:lol:
