I'm not sure anyone needs to take an ex-Army Brigadier's comments on the superficialities of naval architecture seriously.
Basic training of any soldier in any army is ability to identify enemy and friendly vehicles, aircraft, vessels or equipment. That is what I am sure about.

Identifying enemy and friendly vessels is far removed from technical analysis of naval architecture.

Your original post was about "superficialities of naval architecture", now you want to say "technical analysis of naval architecture"; so your artful dodging continues. Maybe you should just give it up. You really just wanted to make a snarky comment about your betters anyway, as usual.

The superficialities of naval architecture fall within technical analysis of naval architecture, buddy. Ray's point was that the ships look Russian, which is a technical judgment.

Why should I give anything up? Ray's blatant Sinophobia and frequent flights of fancy mean I derive endless amusement from pointing out his illogic, ignorance, and vapidity.

I kind of like the irony of this thread title... In a sarcastic kind of way, Afako is a comedic genius:)

update on the newly Launched military vessels by China shipyards in 2014
-----------------
source : HSH forum

yesterday - just before the last day of 2014, the JN shipyard launched the 6th 052D destroyer. in this year, three 052D were launched in Mar, Aug and Dec....the construction time of last two destroyers on the ship-building berth was reduced to about 5-6 months each according to the shipyard news press...

the third and fifth of this class...the third vessel is near finishing the fitting-out work and has begun the port trial for a while...

the status of the fourth vessel which was launched in March...

the second one of the 052D class has begun the new round of sea trail...

BTW, the sixth and last of 052C destroyer has been painted once again and with the Pennant number--" 153" finally, but it won't be commissioned in 2014...

----------------------------
two improved 054A frigates were launched as well in the second half of this year...this is the 19th and 20th of this class...

two more(21th and 22th) have been shaped too, they would be launched very soon

the number of launched 056 light Frigates is little less than the number commissioned in 2014...

some new modification was spotted as well on the 23rd 056/056A class...the higher main mast would help to improve the performance for some sensor.

-------------------------

three Replenishment ships were launched . two are the 20000 tons class fleet Replenishment ships and one is the 15000 tons class Island Replenishment ship with limited Oil and water supply ability to other vessels...

they were launched in Jun

Sep

Dec

-------------------------
two surveillance ship were launched

and one more is ready to launch, the latest and fourth 071 LPD is almost ready as well in the same dry dock...

-----------------------
Two 072A LST were launched...side number: 981 and 982...

shipyards allover China also launched/delivered quite some other support/auxiliary vessels in 2014. because their Commission ceremony were not reported normally in public ,so I won't share these events here with the unofficial info but some vague term...

-----------------
more Mine-hunter/ Mine Sweeper and Cable laying vessel

several Transport ships

more Ocean Surveillance Ships

two imported Zubr class LCAC( sensors and weapon was mounted in China shipyard) and two home-made ones are almost all ready and commissioned..

more newly constructed Type726 LCAC( 071 LPD' attachment project) in the sea trail and kept joining the Navy.

------------------

the info about the under-water force building-up is sensitive, so we are avoiding talking about these issues...I just could say several new nuclear and conventional submarines were launched in 2014...

export project might be the exception, so I chose such an image as the topic related picture...
