A bomb has targeted the convoy route of Pakistan's former military ruler, Pervez Musharraf, within minutes of him passing, police say.
They said it was an attempt to target the former president, however, no casualties were reported.
The blast struck a bridge on Mr Musharraf's route from a hospital in Rawalpindi, where he was being treated.
He was admitted to hospital for chest pain in January on his way to court at the start of his trial for treason.
Earlier this week, the former army chief was charged with five counts of treason over alleged constitutional violations during his time in power.
Mr Musharraf, 70, has denied the charges and says all the accusations against him are politically motivated.
Bridge targeted
The blast reportedly struck Faizabad Bridge late on Wednesday night, as Mr Musharraf was being transported from a military hospital to his farm house on the outskirts of Islamabad.
It is not clear whether the bomb exploded before or after Mr Musharraf's convoy passed, however, one police official quoted by the AFP news agency said the bomb exploded before he crossed the bridge.
"Four kilograms of explosive device planted in a pipeline under a bridge exploded around 20 minutes before the former president was supposed to cross the spot,"senior police official Liaqat Niazi said.
Mr Musharraf was taken home via an alternative route, he added. The blast destroyed a nearby footpath on the interchange between the cities of Islamabad and RawalpindiThere were no reported casualties from the blast
His spokeswoman, Aasia Ishaq, confirmed that he had reached his home safely, according to Associated Press.
There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack, which police say they are investigating.
Threats
Cases against Musharraf
Since Pervez Musharraf's return to Pakistan in March 2013, he has faced four criminal cases but was bailed in all of them. He was charged:
In connection with the 2006 killing of a rebel Baloch politician, Akbar Bugti
In connection with the 2007 assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto
For putting nearly 60 senior judges under house arrest in November 2007
Although he was not formally charged, he is on bail in connection with the killing of a cleric in the 2007 Red Mosque siege in Islamabad
His most serious challenge is a treason case, which bears five charges including suspending the constitution and imposing emergency rule. He has pleaded not guilty but could face death if convicted.
Mr Musharraf has survived numerous assassination attempts and plots against him during his time in power.
Since returning from self-imposed exile last year, the Taliban has vowed to kill him, with security threats preventing him from attending a number of his trial hearings.
He stands accused of unlawfully suspending the constitution and instituting emergency rule in 2007.
On Wednesday, the Interior Ministry turned down Mr Musharraf's request to end a travel ban preventing him from leaving the country to visit his sick mother in Dubai.
He is currently under house arrest and has been placed on an exit control list restricting certain Pakistani nationals from leaving the country.
His lawyers say they plan to submit another appeal to the courts asking for his name to be removed from the list.
President from 2001 to 2008, Mr Musharraf was one of Pakistan's longest-serving rulers.

Incompetence by people that planted bomb.

Accuracy and exact timing by the people that planned bomb. (Most likely).

Musharraf enemies are the Bhutto and Sharif not the Teebs. The bomb might have been done by pro-Musharraf supporters to highlight the importance and risk that guy faces.

Like true warrior of commando lineage he also went to hospital after sudden pain that judge declared was fake to prevent him before going to court and one must not forget he cannot answer why he suspended the judges and the constitution of pakistan and declared emergency. Was that for self interest was that for pakis interest. Such a fine line in Pakistan. He also felt humiliated standing in front of a judge and bowing before since he had military rank.

He is also setting a fine example for the next dictator from army in Pakistan. Can get away and live a life of richness. Run away from court and be in house arrest. The running away from court gives me too much laughter and can imagine him literally running when judge order him to be arrest. He basically dishonoured the Pakistan and pakis in one simple action by running away from judge and court. The guy standing on the SUV and showboating like he is protecting some messiah is too hilarious. The journalists and people watching must thinking what's going on. Also the SUV forget to take some of the security personnel in such a hurry. It's too much comedy... Ha

What was the title of his book. Is there a sequel to that. In the line of blasts.

One thing for sure he is having better protection compare to benezir Bhutto. What does her family think every time they see such convoys. What does sharif think when he see such convoys, Do they have any self respect to see such things play out in their backyard now.

Finally if he is going to play the theme that he does not want to leave Pakistan and he will still fight everything in courts - in spite of the blasts - why he sent for report and medical checkup in America. Why he still trying to show he is better compare to sharif.

Like majority of pakis they don't think things through and understand principles. He had things going for him until 2008.
