    Multi-crore food scam erupts

A major political war breaks out over the food scam. The Centre pins blame on the then Mulayam Singh led Samajwadi Party government in mid 2000. It's the biggest scam emanating from one of the poorest states in the country - a Rs 2000 crore scam where food meant for the poorest of poor was intentionally, deliberately and systematically lifted and sold in open markets, both home and abroad.

Political parties have reacted strongly as the food scam erupts and takes a political colour, and the observations of the Allahabad High court leads to a massive political controversy.

Reaction from the Centre come in after the High Court's observation on the food scam - a scam that stretched to almost 7 years and 5000 FIRs. The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court finally on Friday ordered the state investigative agencies to refer to the CBI and wrap up the investigations in 6 months.

The scam is believed to have been orchestrated between 2003 and 2007 when Mulayam Singh Yadav was the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.

    What the court said:

The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court on Friday made some stinging observations slamming the highest authorities in the state for colluding to snatch food from India's poorest.

    'Higher authorities snatched foodgrain'

    - The court observed that there was prima facie no doubt that the foodgrains meant for poor and downtrodden had been smuggled and none of that could have happened without the involvement of higher authorities.

Collusion across India in food scam?

    - The court also observed that transportation by goods train to far corners of the countries indicate that smuggling happened in collusion with authorities.

    'Courts can't be muste spectators'

    - The court went on to say that the judiciary could not remain mute spectators especially in light of recent corruption scams that had caused huge damage to national development

    'Don't spare anyone this time'

    - The court also slammed the government and said that it could not sit in appeal over discretion exercised by the court while supervising the investigation in the matter.

Petitioner Vishwanath Chaturvedi says a cover up has been on for a long time and according to him the scam is believed to be bigger than the 2G spectrum scam or even the Kargil for profit and CWG scam, running into 200000 crore rupees.

The Samajwadi Party who's government was at the heart are not saying much.

The BSP has welcomed the HC observation and said that they would follow court's order.

Former SP leader Amar Singh though refused to comment and said he will reply to whatever allegations in the court.

Could this be a ploy or heavy handed tactics of Congress against Mulayam as he had asked for JPC in 2G scam, digging a grave for UPA in the parliament? Was UPA sleeping on this scam for past 7-8 years? Did Congress allow Mulayam to Scam the nation in support of support for Congress lead Govt. at the center, and not raising Italian/CIA agent issue again? Now he goes against UPA for a JPC, so UPA claims this is a scam bigger than 2G (200000 Crore)? Isn't this a joke which these looters, ruling dynasties and scamsters have played on the nation and common man? Loot is happening day in day out!!

In 2010 india has lost around 60-80$ usd billion dollars has been lost in various scams. i am sick of congress government. UPA is going down soon.

as long you are loyal to UPA you can do all the corruption you want. but if you go against UPA then the corruption charges are on you. for ex; even after $usd 40 billion 2G scam, Mr. Manmohan Singh will pat your back. (this is like saying "bravo bravo!!! well done.. my son. now please donate 80% of that money as a party fund and you shall keep the rest"). Minister Raja resigned from his post but no no no Mr Singh wants him back as telecom ministry again so that he can continue his looting spree.

The scams are being exposed every day and the questions is "what we the tax payers are doing about it?" - the answer is nothing, nada, kuch bhi nahi.
because our life has become too busy and selfish that we hardly worry about what's going on around us. it is like "minding our own business..".

the parliament has been stalled for 18 days now; and the so called common man is only worried about his daily routine and he don't seem to care enough about his country. the common wan wakes up in the morning, read the newspaper while eating breakfast. drop the kids off to school, goto job, post videos on youtube at evening and then finally watch TV and sleep....

then the common man questions about why the commodities prices are going up? why there is 34% of inflation. i wonder if a leader like sardar patel will ever rise again.

this politicans are not going to change . this type of system suits them and yes `upa is worse then i thought . i though with good people at helm of affairs they would put tight control over it. but look hell what are they doing it .whats logic or turning youe eye away form it just because u need their support so that i could survive in lok sabha. its right time we remove all such pro- poor scheme instead of poor- its rich that are benefiting better to full capitalistic system then half-baked

Leaders can rise but will these buffoons allow honest strong independent and patriotic candidates to work? I doubt it.

Subhash Bose - anyone? Ring any bells?

Even Sardar Patel was asked to step down to make way for Chacha Nehru, though Nehru was 1000 times better than these fraudsters but this power game has started well before Independence.

The Presidential form of governance is the only solution where the people directly vote for the candidate and not the party.

We should rename our nation as 'Republic of Scams'.
