Modi, Manmohan at it again; history, geography the latest battlefield

A combative Narendra Modi hit back at the Prime Minister on Sunday for his attack on BJP, saying the Congress committed the "sin" of partition and eulogised only the Nehru-Gandhi family while neglecting heroes of the freedom struggle.
Modi trained his guns on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who had on Saturday said in Raipur that on many occasions, "over-excited BJP leaders change history and geography of the country". Singh's remarks appeared to be directed at BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate.

"Mr Prime Minister, I am aware that it is not in your hands what you should say or not say. But the country wants to know who changed the geography of India. The village in which you were born was a part of Hindustan. Today it is not. Who changed the geography. Who broke this country into pieces?" Modi said while inaugurating a multi-specialty hospital managed by a Muslim trust in Balassinor in Kheda district, about 100 km from Ahmedabad.

Singh was born on September 26, 1932 in Gah, a remote village, now in Pakistan's Punjab province.

Modi charged that "it is the Congress which committed the sin of dividing India into two parts".

"You say we are changing the geography. Every so often China creates problems on our borders. It has captured hundreds of square kms of our territory. Who changed this geography? It was changed during Congress rule," Modi said.

Taking the Prime Minister to task on his speech made in Naxal-hit Chhattisgarh, Modi said it would have been better if the Prime Minister had spoken on how to tackle price rise and corruption.

"I was hearing PM's speech yesterday when he was speaking in Chhattisgarh. It would have been better if PM spoke on price rise, corruption but he was talking history and geography," Modi said.

During his address, Singh had also said "The people of Chhattisgarh and India are aware that parties that talk big are not capable of coming to power...we should alert the people about parties which have communal ideology but are talking about secularism to mislead people."

Modi said that he fully agreed with PM when he said that those who talk big cannot achieve success.

"I fully agree with you. You cannot achieve success with big talks and the 2012 Gujarat Assembly elections is an example. Big talkers were rejected," Modi said, referring to BJP's victory in last year's Assembly polls.

Modi further alleged that the Centre wants to change the route of the Sabarmati-Dandi heritage road that is to be constructed to mark the salt satyagraha underaken by Mahatma Gandhi.

"Gandhiji began his Dandi yatra from Sabarmati Ashram here in 1930. So many of your leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and you came thereafter. Prime Minister, you said the Dandi yatra route would be made heritage road. You promised to give money too but you did not. And you also wrote a letter six months back," Modi said.

"The letter said rather than the original Dandi route, if we can alter the path by 30 kms, it will be ok. Who is changing geography here," Modi asked Singh.

"You have abandoned Gandhi and now you want to leave his path too," he said.

Modi said he held high respect for the Prime Minister and his office, but had to say the truth.

He said that the first war of independence of 1857 is still taught as "mutiny" to children in schools.

"In 1857, Hindus and Muslims fought shoulder to shoulder. But it is you who call it 'mutiny'. People who died for the country are called mutineers. It was independence movement. Prime Minister, I want to ask you who has played a role in making India forget its history," Modi said.

The freedom fighters incarcerated in the Cellular jail of Andaman and Nicobar Islands are now forgotten, he said.

Modi also attacked the PM and the Congress on the issue of history. He charged that Sardar Patel was given the Bharat Ratna 41 years after his death while Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi were given the award when they were alive.

He said while Sardar Patel was given the Bharat Ratna with Rajiv Gandhi, even in the case of B R Amdedkar the award was given 33 years after Independence.

"Why was this done?...Is this not playing with history? Who has done this?" Modi said, adding that the Congress was all along busy eulogising one family.

    I wonder who advises Mamnohan.

He make him cannon fodder for Modi.

I am surprised since Dr MM Singh is very careful with his words and wargames every word lest he can be taken on.

The pressure of Govt and Foreign faux pas and reading of prepared speech's by Dynasty sycophants is taking a toll on the poor man.

How much for insult can this poor man bear?

Rahul Gandhi makes a joke of him and his Govt and now Modi goes ballistic!

It is interesting to me that there are many comparisons of Modi to Hitler out there. Is there any legitimacy to such comparisons?

Congress tries counter him and always portray him as a "Hitler" and making him a Boogeyman..

Anytime they want to counter MODI they have "Hitler" or 2002 riots. In this process Congress try to cover up it's scam ridden past and 1984 riots plus Sri lanka war.

btw whenever MMS,Raul,Sonia speaks up it makes a mockery of the whole Congress.

Indian politics has always cashed on the 'fear psychosis' generation so that those who feel insecure can be wooed to give their votes in the favour of those who pander to this theory.

It is an age old game to divide society on not only on the lines of religion, but also on caste lines.

This is called 'Vote Bank' politics, as also called 'social engineering'.

So to compare anyone to Hitler, does raise the worst of fears and it works to a great advantage to the people who raise this image.

There is no doubt that Modi is autocratic, but then he is decisive and has shown great inventiveness in governance. Because of his aim to raise Gujarat to a greater height, he has embraced industrialisation and had given concession to the big wigs of industry and commerce. IN reciprocity these marketplace leaders have praised Modi immensely.

It is also true that bureaucracy is under tight grip in Modi's domain and very little leeway to do hanky panky, unlike Delhi, which is rife with corruption and scams and the crooks, to include bureaucrats and politicians have a field day.

What raises the ire of those who are anti Modi is that inspite of a unending and relentless II year campaign to hold him responsible for the 2002 Riots, using all Govt machinery and institutions, NGOs, prominent social and political personalities, the Courts et al, they have not been able to pin anything on him.

Further, while the perpetrators of the Sikh riots in Delhi are roaming scot free, many, to include a Minister has been jailed.

It maybe added that the 2002 riots had taken place immediately after Modi took over as Chief Minister. He had no experience in govt or governance. He was, hwoever, a good organiser of event of his political party and so was given the chair of CM

    Here is what Wiki states;

Here is what Wiki states on his development:

The problem with Modi is that he appears to many that he is an One Man Army

Being a bachelor, he has no encumbrances and so can go gung ho.

    Hitler?

I think it is an exaggeration!

But that he will brook no corruption or delays in implementation is supposed to be his plus point.

No,he is nothing like that hitler guy.
Actually he represents a puppet party whose strings are in the hand of a hindutva party RSS.
So many people fear that Modi will be a nightmare for the minorities and Godhra riots add to them people's suspicion.
Therefore Congressis are trying hard to manipulate this fear to get minority votes.
But in reality these things are not working out for congress because most of the business man in India support Modi because of his Business oriented politics.
People are really pissed off because of these multi billion dollar scams and congressis are trying hard to deviate the topic from these scams to majority-minority politics.
In short he is nothing like hitler and it's just old dirty,sh8tty politics at work :troll:

Aside from Partition, who gifted 1/3 of Kashmir to Pakistan, thus severely altering the geography of India.? Who allowed Chinese to swallow Aksai Chin? In recent days who allowed Chinese to occupy 6-700m Sq miles in Ladakh? Who allowed Sri Lanka to occupy Kachchativu island? All doing of Congress.

Lols. MMS was born in India, but now his birth place is in Pakistan.

PM, where is your birth place, asks Modi

Ahmedabad: BJP prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for India's partition. "Prime Minister your birth place once used to be a part of India, but not now. Who is responsible for changing the geography? Who is responsible for the division of this country? It is the Congress party," he said.

Modi's statement came a day after Manmohan Singh while addressing an election rally in Chhattisgarh had said that the BJP leaders in excitement talk about changing the geography and history of India and such big talks will not help the BJP to come to power in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Modi alleged the Congress committed the "sin" of partition and eulogised only the Nehru-Gandhi family while neglecting other freedom fighters.

"Mr Prime Minister, I am aware that it is not in your hands what you should say or not say. But the country wants to know who changed the geography of India. The village in which you were born was a part of Hindustan. Today it is not. Who changed the geography. Who broke this country into pieces?" And "twisting history" is sufficient grounds to draw a comparison between Modi and Hitler like the Congoons have been doing?

    Congoons need to try harder.

    Objection overruled.

If you want to make an intelligent point, you need to follow a decorum. If you want to turn this thread into an exchange of words like "Congoon" and "Modi-tard," then please don't respond back to me.

As Chief Minister, Modi's ideas of governance revolved around privatisation and small government, which stood at odds with what Aditi Phadnis has described as the "anti–privatisation, anti–globalisation position" of the RSS.

This is the biggest truth leftist Indians have failed to understand. Old RSS core group is much more left then any CPIs exist.

    @W.G.Ewald

I was apprehensive of Modi given the 11 years indefatigable attacks on Modi of not protecting the Muslims in the riots.

But, of late, there are many Muslims who have joined his political party and are openly advocating that Modi is not a vile man as is being projected by certain elements of the political and social organisation.

Even that I was not ready to accept since it could be motivated.

However, when Modi swept a Congress bastion that had overwhelming Muslim majority and Ghulam Mohammed Vastanvi, cleric and former Darul-uloom Deoband vice-chancellor endorsed his development for which he lost his job, I wondered that if Muslims, who were the claimed victims are ready to find Modi acceptable, then maybe he deserves the benefit of doubt. And anyway, he seems to be a go getter than the current dithering, corrupt, rudderless Sultanate we have in Delhi.

He sure is not Hitler or else there would be no Muslims in Gujarat. It is to the contrary
Muslims are still better off in Gujarat.

    @Ray

Muslims are 9% in Gujarat. In govt they are 11% and in police 12%. In which other state are muslims in govt/police more than their % population, leave aside J&K.

He's hitting them where it matters and these questions are never really asked even in charged rallies. Great to see some difficult questions asked from history. If this attitude continues from BJP, with a strong victory in 2014, i have a feeling he'll go for the kill and eliminate Congress. The man has a great sense of history and if he has enough power would probably not hesitate to break Congress as an institution and annihilate the organization.

Might be wishful thinking, but that would be a good day.

It depends on whom you talk to, but if you have a reality check on facts it’s only a propaganda created by the so called secular parties. It’s a fact that we had a very unfortunate riot when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2002. But the worst riot in Gujarat was in 1969 under Congress government (one of the party who is calling him Hitler). But nobody remembers the Congress Chief Minister of that period. That is how media works in India. Mr. MODI was able to control the riot in 3 days. There was numerous inquiry commissions including one monitored by the Apex court of India for investing the riot but till now nothing came out against him. Moreover many of the guilty are punished and trials in remaining cases are in progress.

One of the worst riots in Indian History happened in 1984 in which more than 3000 people killed and it was under Congress government. One of the Congress leader who later became PM said “When a big tree fall there was bound to be vibration”. He was justifying the riot in reponse of assassination of his mother. Till date hardly anybody punished for those riots (it’s near about 30 years now). But nobody called our former PM a Hitler.

People also call Mr. MODI undemocratic. But the fact is till date India had only one undemocratic leader who imposed emergency in India and that was Indira Gandhi. Why she imposed emergency? Because her election was declared null and void by a court in India.

Just for information, Mr. MODI is a 3 times elected CM of Gujarat. He won last 3 elections by near about 2/3 majority. Gujarat has achieved double digit GDP growth for last 10 years.
