The HK121 is a 7.62×51mm NATO general-purpose machine gun manufactured by Heckler & Koch. The weapon is intended as a replacement for the Rheinmetall MG3. This weapon resembles the 5.56×45mm NATO Heckler & Koch MG4 light machine gun which was adopted into German military service in 2005.

Lightweight Small Arms Technologies (LSAT)

The LSAT light machine gun, of the LSAT (Lightweight Small Arms Technologies) program, is a developmental, powerful light machine gun. The purpose of the program was to develop a lighter, yet very reliable LMG. The program was initiated in 2004, when the Joint Service Small Arms Program (JSSAP) challenged the American defence industry to develop a lighter small arms and also design lighter ammunition. The LMG provides a major reduction in weight over legacy weapons, as well as improvements in other areas, such as controllability and reliability. As of 2008, it has two configurations, one that fires cased telescoped ammunition, and one that fires caseless ammunition. After further research and development into both technologies and the platforms that fire them, one of the two variants shall be chosen for production.

M60 GPMG - General Purpose Machine Gun - History, Specs and Pictures - Military, Security and Civilian Guns and Equipment

Read second paragraph in Section "M60 Uses".

Also consider this:

Firing from the hip is also stupid, even firing a machine gun from the hip is something only an amateur will do. Some machine guns, however, have too much kick to fire from the shoulder and must be fired from the hip in an emergency. .. Hip firing is not accurate at all and is a great way to waste ammo. The only way it might be accurate is if the gunner 'walked' his rounds into the target by observing where they hit and adjusting his hold. Walking rounds into a target is only effective if the shooter has all the time in the world and the target is not firing back. Machine guns come with bipods and tripods for this reason, they are not meant to be firing without being braced on something solid.

Essentially an improvement of the PKM we can issue it in large numbers to troops in army and para military forces, get licence production for this :)
Pecheneg Bullpup : A lighter, compact, more accurate, more reliable, less recoil version of Pecheneg machine gun.
