For some time the quality of posts has deterioted and non-defence topics have been dominating the forum.

@Daredevil had put a notice to this effect some time back

But this has had no effect at all on the members.

@pmaitra had put in some very good suggestions. Posting it here again for all members to read.

    Redundant Threads
Please do not open a thread if a thread already exists, unless there is a compelling need to do so. Granted, a decision in this regard is going to be a bit subjective. Please keep in mind that multiple threads tend to gravitate into the same type of debate. In such cases, it is better to keep such threads together. Experienced members are better equipped to make this judgement, as to whether a new thread is required or an existing thread will do. In other words, please use your judgment whether a new thread will lead to a discussion that is already occurring elsewhere. If anyone wants to have a narrow discussion, he should specify his intentions clearly in the opening post. This will signal us not to merge it with an existing thread.

    Thread Titles
Please keep the thread titles concise, as much as practically possible. It is generally fine to use the title of a news article, however, many news articles use titles that would rather qualify as a short paragraph or a compound sentence. If you see that the thread title has been truncated, due to the limitation in the thread title field's length, and the title is rendered meaningless, please report, and we shall fix it.

    Low Quality Opening Posts
Opening posts, unless a copy-paste of an article, are better written in good English. Grammatical errors, SMS language, etc., reduce the quality of the post, and may create a poor fore-taste about the thread itself. Ideally, all posts should be of high standard, however, the request is to try our best to keep at least the opening post at a high standard.

    Un-original Content
It is also important to provide link(s), or give credit, if the content is copied from somewhere, so as not to be accused of plagiarism. This is required, not optional.

Redundant threads themselves are a cause of opening more threads. Often a poster is unable to find a suitable existing thread from hundreds of open threads. So, he opens a new one. Mods may take it upon themselves to merge such threads with an existing one, if the subject has been already under discussion in there.

It is in the members' corner. It is a non-serious section. However, I'd like to point out to the general audience, we do not encourage vulgarities there.

@pmaitra has not made a comment on your post , but he has merely underlined that even though there is a non serious section, the rules regarding vulgarity, personal attacks, dragging religion into discussions is not encouraged.

Yes that is the general idea. the name of the Forum is Defence Forum of India.

If you see most of the sections are related to Defence, Economy and Infrastructure- these are the pillars of the nation, their strength.

Lately, we have noticed, as well as received quite a few complaints, in relation to thread discussions, including about the following:
    • Using abusive language.
    • Name-calling, including persons ganging up against another person, whilst not directly addressing that person.
    • Articles being posted without links or references.
    • Religious demagoguery.
    • Divisive language.

May I suggest using the filter to block some derogatory/abusive words and name calling wrt nationality/race/religion? This will certainly add up to the quality of the debate and reduce provocation and trolling. After all behavior breeds behavior.

Please add suggestions and feedback here: Suggestions and Feedback

Yes, leniency is shown to members with the presumption that everyone loses his cool once in a while. However, leniency also gives out the message that inappropriate behaviour is acceptable, and only encourages more of what we are trying to avoid.

I am restricting this thread for moderators and administrators only.
