In a shocking incident, a group of MLAs today beat up a policeman who had allegedly stopped the vehicle of Vasai MLA Kshitij Thakur on the Bandra-Worli sealink here yesterday.

The melee occurred outside the House at noon when a group of MLAs led by Thakur caught hold of Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Suryavanshi and roughed him up.

After the Question Hour, Thakur moved a breach of privilege notice against the policeman for obstructing his vehicle on the Bandra-Worli sealink. He gave details of the incident which took place yesterday when he was on his way to attend the Assembly proceedings and how the policeman had "misbehaved" with him.

Enraged by Thakur's account, members cutting across party lines were on their feet demanding that the official be suspended. Amid the uproar, the House was adjourned for 20 minutes.

Suryavanshi, who was seated in the visitor's gallery made hand gestures looking down towards the members. Thakur identified him as the same policeman who had obstructed him yesterday.

The MLAs Ram Kadam (MNS), Rajan Salvi (Shiv Sena), Pradeep Jaiswal (Independent) and Jaykumar Rawal (BJP) rushed outside the House and caught the policeman on the first floor of the Vidhan Bhavan building and beat him.

The House witnessed two more adjournments for half an hour each.

Speaker Dilip Walse Patil said the entire incident including the melee outside the House needed to be probed and disallowed the members from speaking about it.

This did not go down well with the members who were firm on their demand to take action against the police official.

Suryavanshi was taken away by the Vidhan Bhavan security staff and kept in a room where doctors checked him. Home Minister R R Patil and Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse as well as few MLAs visited him in the security room.

The issue of the cop's misbehaviour with the MLA was first raised in the Legislative Council yesterday by deputy chairman Vasant Davkhare to which Home Minister R R Patil had declared that the policeman will be sent on forced leave till the inquiry is complete.

The politicians think they are the neo Zamindars and can do anything and every thing they feel like.

Law must take its course and they must be arrested and proceeded against.

Maha MLAs who thrashed policeman in Assembly surrender

    Press Trust of India

Mumbai: Two Maharashtra legislators, who allegedly assaulted traffic police sub-inspector Sachin Suryawanshi, in the state Assembly premises, surrendered before the police on Thursday. A crime branch official said, "Initially, Vasai MLA Kshitij Thakur and then legislator Ram Kadam surrendered before us at the police headquarters here and their statements are being recorded." He also added that "The formalities to arrest them are underway. After their arrest, the duo will be produced before a local court later in the day."

On March 19, an FIR was registered at Marine Drive police station against Thakur, Kadam (MNS) and 14 others for allegedly beating the 31-year-old police sub inspector with Worli Traffic Police at Vidhan Bhawan. Later, the crime branch took over the investigations.

Suryawanshi had allegedly stopped the vehicle of Thakur a day ago on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link when the MLA was on his way to attend the Legislative Assembly Session. Thakur was reportedly fined because his vehicle had exceeded the speed limit. There was an altercation between the legislator and the policeman, during which the latter allegedly misbehaved with the MLA.

Maha legislators who allegedly thrashed a sub-inspector surrender before the police, booked under various sections of the IPC.
Following the incident, the policeman was thrashed at the entrance to the visitors gallery in the House, by a group of legislators including Thakur, Kadam, Rajan Salvi (Shiv Sena), Pradeep Jaiswal (Independent), among others.

Sources said that the accused have been booked under IPC sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 341 (wrongful restraint), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation).

Suryawanshi, who is undergoing treatment at the St George hospital in South Mumbai, said in a statement on Wednesday that he was attacked by the legislators after he had come out of Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Vasant Davkhare's office on the first floor and was sitting on a bench, about to leave for the canteen.

They will pay little fee and get bail on same day.

The cop who got assaulted will spend coming years fearing for his life.

And most importantly, will any cop be able to take action on MP/MLA without hesitation in future ??

In contrast, some Gujarat BJP men vandalised an eatery in Navasari, Gujarat. Police swung into action and arrested. Gujarat has ZERO tolerance in these matters.

Those MLAs should have arrested immidiately. But no, the police officer is sought to made a scape goat.

So first you beat up a cop who tried to do his duty by stopping MLA speeding his car.

Then you create ruckus over suspension of those involved MLAs.

And when Police again come to arrest the losers over filed FIR doing their lawful duty, you demand suspension of those officers too & stop entire assembly proceeding responsible to make decisions for millions and millions in state because of some egoist morons trying to act like Monarchs!!

Mera Bharat Mahaan !

Two Maharashtra MLAs sent to jail for assaulting cop, legislature adjourned
Two Maharashtra MLAs accused of assaulting a police officer will have to spend at least three days in jail after a court on Friday reserved its order on their bail plea till Monday even as both Houses of legislature were adjourned amid ruckus over their suspension and conduct of police in the episode.

Additional Metropolitan Magistrate U M Padwad remanded Bahujan Vikas Agadhi MLA Kshitij Thakur and MNS' Ram Kadam in judicial custody till April 5 after they were produced before the court at the end of a day's police custody.

The duo, accused of assaulting Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Suryavanshi inside the state legislature complex on Tuesday, immediately moved for bail and after hearing arguments from both sides, the metropolitan court reserved its order on their applications till Monday.

Thakur and Kadam had surrendered before the Crime Branch yesterday and a metropolitan court remanded them in a day's police custody.

Marine Drive police had registered cases against Thakur, Kadam and others under IPC sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 341 (wrongful restraint), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation).

The two MLAs would be lodged in high-security Arthur Road Jail.

Suryavanshi, attached to the Worli police station, was beaten black and blue by a group of MLAs outside the visitors gallery at the state's legislature complex on Tuesday, a day after he had stopped the vehicle of Kshitij Thakur on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link for speeding and slapped a fine.

On Wednesday, the assembly had suspended five MLAs-- Ram Kadam (MNS), Jaykumar Rawal (BJP), Kshitij Thakur (Bahujan Vikas Agadhi), Rajan Salvi (Shiv Sena) and Pradeep Jaiswal (Independent)--for their alleged involvement in the unsavoury episode.

The issue resonated in the legislature today with members cutting across party lines disrupting the proceedings, forcing several adjournments
