May Bureaucrats and Politicians Steal a little, as long as they Perform?
This is a point of debate.

One might consider the following instances:
    • Congress has had many a cases of corruption, but at the same time they have had the most impact on India, because it is Congress that started liberalization.
    • BJP has had fewer cases of corruption, but thier impact on India has been similarly less than Congress.
    • Left has had negligible cases of corruption, but they, in turn have largely shied away from participating in the government (with the exception of CPI); i.e., discounting outside support.

    Please read the article below:
Indian minister says bureaucrats 'can steal a little'
Source: Indian minister says bureaucrats 'can steal a little' - Telegraph

Are Bureaucrats' and politicians' salaries too low that they are forced to steal a little?
One has to consider the fact that private sector salaries often reach more than that of the President. Well, that is technically not possible, but we all know how perks and benefits can make a gross pay exceed that of the President.

PM, if somebody gets to loot Rs. 3000 Crores can you ever give such a salary to the Political and Bureaucrats.

Salary cannot be the reason for the corruption. I have seen people earning less than Rs 15000 months a month, onest to the core of their soul, and at the same time, my ex-boss earning around Rs. 5 lacs per month was the a very corrupt individual.

One thing I do agree with communists on is shooting people for economic crimes.

    Instead of justifying stealing.

Give those chaps performing a bonus and a shiny medal.

On the point of salaries...it should be increased 10 times. Honest people cannot survive on that salary.

It is another thing that honest people would rarely win an election but that is a different point.

We must do something to attract high calibre honest people to run our country and the first thing is to ensure there financial stability and peace of mind.

If we have good salaries and good people are running the country then costs would increase only by couple of hundred crores but on the other hand we will be saving thousands of crores that are looted by corrupt individuals. Judges in India get 9 lakh rupees annually as salary while judge at the hague gets 3 crores and the Indian judge has more cases to hear everyday. Even above avg and good lawyer earn 9 lakhs quarterly so why would they be attracted to become a judge ?

Theft is already legalized in various subtle forms, such as, but not limited to, the following examples:
    • Fractional Reserve is a system on which Fiat Currency survives. In this system, the bank can lend out more money that it already has. This encourages printing more Currency Notes, without actually putting in enough gold, silver, or other resources in the vaults, to back up the extra money printed. This is what causes inflation, and wipes out people's savings. This is one form of counterfeiting that the Reserve Bank of India, US FED, etc., are legally allowed to do.
    • Bribing in Germany for contracts and services is illegal, only if the contracting parties are German. However, if a German company bribes a foreign customer to sell its products, it is called "Commission," and is tax deductible.

Mad house that is India. Crooks swindling 1000's/lakhs of govt money roam free while a poor man accused of taking a Rs 50 bribe is hounded by the law even a decade after his death.

‘Death no reason to acquit corrupt’
