China for no-first-use of atomic weapons

Promising to strictly adhere to policy of no-first-use of atomic weapons, China on Monday called on other nuclear weapons states to "abandon the nuclear deterrence policy based on first use".

"China had adhered to the policy of no-first-use of nuclear weapons at any time and under any circumstance" Cheng Jingye, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other International Organisations in Vienna [ Images ] said.

"The nuclear-weapon states should unequivocally undertake not to be the first to use nuclear weapons and negotiate and conclude the Treaty on Mutual No-First-Use of Nuclear Weapons", he was quoted as saying by state-run Xinhua news agency.

He was speaking at the Preparatory Committee for 2015 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons at Vienna.

"To earnestly reduce the risks of nuclear weapons, nuclear-weapon states should abandon the nuclear deterrence policy based on the first use of nuclear weapons", Chen stressed.

The Chinese stand may not go down well with its strategic ally, the Pakistan military.

According to Wikileaks document attributed to former US ambassador to Pakistan Anne Patterson, Pakistan's army [ Images ] chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani [ Images ] does not support President Asif Ali Zardari's [ Images ] "no-first-use" nuclear policy.

"Although he has remained silent on the subject, Kayani does not support Zardari's statement to the Indian press that Pakistan would adopt a 'no first use' policy on nuclear weapons", according to US diplomatic cables released by whistle-blower website WikiLeaks last year.

"Despite increasing financial constraints, we believe that the military is proceeding with an expansion of both its growing strategic weapons and missile programs," according to "scenesetter" cables sent by Patterson.

The cable was part of Wikileaks documents released last year.

China has employed the NFU nuclear policy since the very beginning. What does it have to do with your missile test?

Ugh! Typical "immaturity". China has had 13000KM ICBM's since 1971. Your 5000km missile which has just been tested for the first time shouldn't make you so cocky, considering that even your warheads are no where near as powerful as Chinese warheads and are more comparable to Pakistan's...

We were the first to propose and implement a no-first-use policy in 1964 when we first got an A bomb, its nothing new, just a proposal to follow the Chinese model and almost guarantee a "no nuclear fallout" future for this planet.

And if you don't see the benefits of all nuclear countries implementing a no-first-use policy, then you're as childish as you sound.

Spare us the sermons, you should've thought of the "no nuclear fallout" Utopian future before you went on a proliferation rampage. Chinese duplicity is nauseating.

Hahaha! You probably don't even no that India already follows a NFU policy. Get over yourself. I'm guessing you think the NFU policy speech was directed to India... Its not always about you, we have much bigger fish to fry.

Chinese experts analyse A5 launch, except for the usual face saving nonsense, they acknowledge the new threat.

We follow NFU even though our chief adversary(Pakistan) follows no such policy and threatens to go all out even in case of a border skirmish as opposed to China all of whose rivals are non-nuclear or followers of NFU themselves.

All I stated was that Chinese talks of no first use hold no meaning and should be ignored because Chinese are masters at deception, that is to say they've known to be double faced backstabbers in the past. :)

It's simple, with A V lurking around, officially all Chinese cities are in range, so Chinese are trying to calm down mad dog pakis, cos if pakis start a nuke war, the fall out will be on source of the bombs

Bla Bla Bla aside, you guys are scared if pakis start the nuke war, India will hit the source of them, hence this cry baby thing. You have given dangerous weapons to irresponsible people, now deal with it.

It is just an attempt to get some POSITIVE media Coverage in the West

Given that China's frequent Skirmishes with its neighbours in the SCS has damaged China's image

And USA and Russia have never pledged No first Use of Nukes
SO Chinese are just trying to be cute
