Today Ukrainian army began a full-scale assault on rebel positions on all fronts. Heavy use of rocket artillery (Grads, Uragans), airstrikes and tanks. The fire is not selective, many shells hit social infrastructure objects and living apartments. Tens of dead, hundreds wounded.

Many analysts say, that the true target of Kiev government is to to make unloyal population flee to Russia by creating intolerable conditions in rebel cities.

I have asked this question too:

Well, Putin made it very clear that Russia won't get involved in the conflict in a near future.
All military movements on borders stopped, threats of using force have disappeared from public statements of Russian officials.
Now Ukraine is on it's own - no NATO invasion, no Russian invasion - only inner bloody conflict started by Kiev junta.

So I suggest to rename the thread into "Civilian war in Ukraine".

Coming back to the thread title, yes, it should be changed, but that would make it less searchable (Search Engine Optimization), as we want to ensure that old links are not messed with.

Renaming the topic will break all old links. The other solution is to close this thread and open a new one with a proper name.

Putin accuses Ukraine over ceasefire as fighting rages

Mr Putin said he and European leaders had tried but failed to keep Ukraine on a path to peace.

Speaking to Russian ambassadors in Moscow, Mr Putin said: "Unfortunately, President Poroshenko has decided to resume military action.

"Neither myself nor our colleagues from Europe have been able to convince him that war cannot lead to well-established and lasting peace."

A four-way teleconference on Monday between Mr Poroshenko, Mr Putin, French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel had raised hopes the truce would be renewed.

Mr Putin vowed he would continue to defend ethnic Russians abroad, using all means available from humanitarian aid to "self-defence".

Mr Putin also said the West was using the Ukraine crisis to destabilise the whole region as part of a policy to "contain" Russia.

He said Ukraine's affairs were an internal matter.

"We need some kind of insurance net around all of Europe so that the Iraqi, Libyan, Syrian - and unfortunately we have to mention the Ukrainian - scenarios do not become a contagious disease," Mr Putin said.

Russia's foreign ministry said Ukraine would "have to answer for crimes against peaceful civilians".

People were evacuated to safety from a hospital in Donetsk city during the fighting on Tuesday

A Russian TV journalist from REN-TV was wounded on the Russian side of the border, by a stray artillery shell from the Ukrainian side.
