And what happened to TAR -21? Last i remember IA had made its mind to equipp entire SF with Tavors. Why M4s now? When will Generals stop reading glossy mazazines?

The M4 was developed and produced for the United States government by Colt Firearms, which had an exclusive contract to produce the M4 family of weapons through 2009.[citation needed] However, a number of other manufacturers offer M4-like firearms. Colt previously held a U.S. trademark on the term "M4".[28] Many manufacturers have production firearms that are essentially identical to a military M4, but with a 16" barrel. Civilian models are sometimes colloquially referred to as "M4gery"[29] ( /ɛmˈfɔərdʒəri/,[30] a portmanteau of "M4" and "forgery"). Colt had maintained that it retains sole rights to the M4 name and design. Other manufacturers had long maintained that Colt had been overstating its rights, and that "M4" had now become a generic term for a shortened AR-15. In April 2004, Colt filed a lawsuit against Heckler & Koch and Bushmaster Firearms, claiming acts of trademark infringement, trade dress infringement, trademark dilution, false designation of origin, false advertising, patent infringement, unfair competition, and deceptive trade practices. Heckler & Koch later settled out of court, changing one product's name from "HK M4" to "HK416". However, on December 8, 2005, a District court judge in Maine granted a summary judgment in favor of Bushmaster Firearms, dismissing all of Colt's claims except for false advertising. On the latter claim, Colt could not recover monetary damages. The court also ruled that "M4" was now a generic name, and that Colt's trademark should be
    revoked

These weapons are being imported for SF. SFs all over the world are equipped with all assortments and varieties of Arms. They should be able to pick and choose their weapons being operation specific including INSAS or TAR. That is why they are SF. There should be any restriction on their weaponry and equipment.

HK416 is nothing but M4. HK changed the name after they lost a law suite against Colt.

HK changed the name coz "M4" had now become a generic term for a shortened AR-15. one cannot use the same name for marketing..

HK-416 is improved over M4, Use Wiki for the start:

Actually we wasted money over useless M4, this is a work of us lobby at MOD..

M4 is absolutely useless over Marine terrain..

Not a good rifle for SF..

And how TAR-21s compares to Colt M4s? Aren't they same capability wise while TAR-21 holding upper hand because of longer barrel? As for suitability in CQBs (carbine requirement), did not IA also purchased Micro Tavors?.............And yea i know what Maroon Beret is and what makes a man worthy of it.

And thirdly, i don't know what part of your unedited post made it a candidate for EDIT under flamebait tag, i was late...

Colt is for CQB, TAR-21 is better and even much better was X-95, If we got X-95 the spare used in X-95 are same as TAR-21..

This is nothing but US lobby work at MOD..

They simple pushed this product in SF..

Colt M4 as we know it today is shortened and deeply modernized version of M-16A2. TAR-21 is a new generation Bullpup design, which conceptually retains features of conventional assault riffle but is short enough for use in CQBs where regular IARs don't fit properly due to longer size.

Yes they use M4 in deserts not in Marine conditions, Slowly they are changing to X-95 there are few M4 left out and will be entierly replaced by Tavor types..

HK416 is used by many countries including US for example SEAL, DELTA and others, Many Regular units in Iraq using HK416 instead of M4..

@ Kunal, can you compare both M4 and X 95, not just the parameters and th specs, but why technically and practically it is good according to you.
