With lot of hopes got up at 130 am India time to watch this ceremony live, but regretfully this according to me is the worst ever Olympic opening ceremony. Beijing was the best and awesome ever, Commonwealth Delhi too was spectacular but oh..... London the most boring till now. Sleepy "yawn" and off to a good night sleep.

How about that sulfur dioxide being pumped into the stadium? They want it to stink like the rest of the city.

BBC seems to disagree with you guys: London 2012 Olympics launches with huge ceremony

It seems it was a spectacular ceremony. :rotflmao:
Maybe, they didn't watch Beijing or Delhi.
Given the depressing mood the Brits are in at the moment, thanks to the Quantitative Easing, Taxes, Failing Banks, Joblessness, Euro-Zone, and a host of other endemic problems, this mediocre Olympic opening must have been a morale booster by contrast.

Yep, carry on regardless. Still, this is the best bit imo: James Bond (Daniel Craig) Escorting The Queen To The London Olympics 2012 - [High Quality] - YouTube

London Olympic organisers did not live up to the expectations. I had high hopes that critics of Indian effort during thr Asian Games would have something unique. But not really. To them Indian Olympic village was incomplete. To me they did not have enough security guards for fool proof security. I watched everything on a Canadian Channel, occasionally flipping between American channel. Occasional comments by the commentators were also a drag.

Let us hope games proceed without a problem.

Long live the Olympic spirit.

some comments on net :

London made a fool of themselves. I'm sorry to tell you. The worst part was when the guy and the girl met up and the girl started texting.
I honestly thought I was watching something created by a high-school drama department that was told to be as politically correct and diverse as possible.

It was horrific.

I am so disappointed!! One of the worst Olympic Ceremony I have seen. The teenager performance where they were partying and texting was brutal to watch.
I'm British. All I could say was that the studio commentators, when they were handed back to after the ceremony sounded something between disappointed and speechless. They were scrabbling around for words to put it in a positive light and they said something along the lines of "It erm... was very British." The Queen looked like she was in a foul mood. I am not sure whether to be embarrassed or not. I had not real opinion going into the ceremony and I still have no real opinion. The best bit for me, was the Parade of Nations. The cauldron is pretty good though. I liked the design of it and the fact they got several unknown up and coming athletes to light it.
OMG! Playing Chemical Brothers during countries parades was simply degrading!
Apart from Steel production part, Britain had nothing to show!

I am just hoping there are gonna be loads of world records now to compensate for what my eyes have seen!

Im an australian and i think its quiet ignorant of a britt to say use rule the world (in the previous comments) you dont rule the world, no country does, we helped fight for your freedom so dont be such a cocky **** were all equal.

Now i appreciate how every opening ceremony the country providing it shows their history and all. And being from a commonwealth country we know alot of that history here, and i appreciate it all and respect it as i do any country. But to be perfectly honest, no unfortunately the britts didnt do the best job. It wasnt awful but it definitely wont go down in history like Bejing and Sydney as such.

This is by far the worst Opening Ceremony ever; after an hour into the program, I was attempting to stream Australia's Opening Ceremony. Who could forget Beijing? I wanna go back in time and I am looking forward to the next Olympics in 4 years.

It'd still smell better than the open cess pool that is Paris
London pollution expected to affect athletes' game

LONDON - London's poor air quality could cause problems for Olympic athletes trying to break world records if a summer heat wave continues, British scientists said on Thursday as levels of pollution hit their highest levels since 2006.

The London Olympics has struggled with an array of teething problems in the run up to the Games, from security and transport concerns to the threat of union strikes. At one stage, even chilly wet weather looked like it might spoil the show.

But on the eve of the Games, temperatures and levels of ozone pollution have soared, breaking a World Health Organisation guideline and potentially causing breathing difficulties for athletes, King's College University researchers said...

The British government issued an air quality warning for ozone levels on Wednesday after ozone concentration in parts of southern England reached over 190 micrograms per cubic metre.

The World Health Organisation guideline is 100.

The sequence with Mr.Bean and James Bond was the highlight of the Isles of Wonder and they showcased their legacy and culture which cant be ridiculed by verses like "worst ever", they spend £30 million on the Opening Ceremony .. :cool2:

Well, given the economic climate of Britain, it was the best that they could do.

Kalmadi not being allowed to attend the Opening Ceremony did not miss much or so it appears.

Hopefully, the athletes and sportsperson will make up for the low keyed Opening.

I'm not sure what you were all expecting but from what i saw the opening ceremony was fantastic, but each to there own. One must remember the opening ceremony focuses on the host nation rather then the olympic's and it's ideal's .

I hope India does very well. With so many people of Indian origin living hear they will be well supported .

But for now ,let the games begin.

Here is why one expected much of the British hosted Olympics Opening Ceremony.

Mr Blair said "I think people will see that nobody can put on the Olympics in quite this way with quite this style, with a very British passion, raising the roof and raising an eyebrow. It's a combination of Olympic spirit with great British spirit.
Tony Blair, who was British prime minister in 2005 when London won the bid to host the Olympics, told the BBC it was "incredibly exciting" that the day had arrived. "The dream we had those seven years ago is becoming a reality," he said.
Earlier Liz Nicholl, Chief Executive of UK Sport, said having invested £100m a year for the last four years there would no doubt be some "great inspirational performances and some surprises" at these Games. She said: "It's not only about the money but the talent and commitment of those youngsters."
Huw Edwards BBC opening ceremony commentator The ceremony will be quirky and eccentric. There are some very unexpected elements. Some critical pieces of information have not been shared with us so it will be as much as surprise for us on the commentary team as it will be for you at home when they unfold this evening. That's why we're all on tenterhooks.
BBC News - Build-up to London 2012 Olympic Ceremony

London today won the right to host the 2012 Olympic games, beating the long-term favourite, Paris, at the finish line to secure the world's biggest sporting event.
It was breathtakingly close: just four votes edged London past Paris in a secret electronic ballot of 115 members of the International Olympic Committee in Singapore. London won after a maximum four rounds of incredibly tense voting, beating Paris by 54 votes to 50.

Speaking at Gleneagles ahead of the G8 summit, the prime minister, Tony Blair, said he had been too nervous to watch the final stages of voting but had punched the air and danced a "jig" when he heard the result. He called it a "momentous day" for London.

After all, we did see the Beijing Opening Ceremony and so the comparison is natural.

And the Olympics is all about Competition to be one better!
