If there is a discussion in the census report about the linked table, it would be useful to see.

A discussion of sampling methods would be of interest. A sample size of 10,000 in each State and Union Territory seems arbitrary.

I am not a statistician, however!

I don't agree with this statistic

Hindi speakers are 99% in UP. Urdu is not spoken anywhere in UP including Muslim dominated Aminabad, Hazratgunj area of Lucknow. Some Muslims do use some "Urdu" word but it's not pure Urdu just like many people also use some words from English, Sanskrit and other regional languages when they speak Hindi but they will be called as Hindi speaker only.

@galaxy census report say 7.99% in up say their mother tongue urdu to census officials.
if they say their mother tongue urdu than census say mother tongue urdu.
if they don't want to recognise as hindi speakers and say hindi is not their mother tongue.
you have to agree with it

There is difference between saying something just for the sake of register oneself as "Urdu speaker" and speaking in day to day life.

I stand on my point that 99% people of UP are Hindi speaker. I don't agree with this data. My view is based on personal experience.
