PAK is nowhere in composite development, radar, avionics or something of their own. At the best they can do is fabricate & assemble the parts & paint the body.Whatever, they have is outdated & granted(chori ka maal) in alms.
In a real time war JF-17 will be sitting ducks. Let them be happy on their achievements. I do not see any future of JF-17 after 5years, whatever it has will be outdated & can be used for traget practice.

I think , we should by them for the target practice of our new SAMS.:emot180:

We should not underestimate our opponents capabilities. Pak always got help from china in every military technology..im sure china will help them with composite development also after all Jf17 also is a chinese baby.

Composites are used in making Body or airframes . Once a plane designed and built nothing can be done. only Avionics radar and weapons can be improved. Chinese are not world leader in all 3 department and thus JF17 donot have a good future .

JF-17 Planned upgrades
JF-17 Planned upgrades
All PAF JF-17 jets will be modified
to aerial refueling capable.
Subsequent upgrades will be
made on PAF JF-17 jets
approximately every five years.
Planned additions include:
Greater use of COMPOSITE
materials in the airframe to
decrease weight.
Chinese Infra-Red Search and
Track (IRST) system, possibly the
Type Hongguang-I Electro-optical
radar originally developed for the
Chengdu J-10 fighter by Sichuan
Changhong Electric Appliance
Corporation. JF-17 is already
compatible with this system but
currently it must be carried
externally in a pod mounted on
one of the hardpoints.
New engine; most likely the
Chinese WS-13 TianShan, although
the PAF is considering fitting
European powerplants such as the
French Snecma M88 to its aircraft.
Minor airframe modifications to
reduce the aircraft's radar cross-
section by adding stealthy
features.
The first 50 JF-17 jets entering
Pakistan Air Force service will
most likely incorporate only
Chinese avionics and other
systems, beyond the initial 50 PAF
JF-17 jets the remaining
production aircraft may also be
equipped with European avionics,
radars and weaponry.
Pakistan had begun negotiations
with British and Italian defense
firms over potential avionics and
radars for JF-17 during initial
development. Some of the radar
options for JF-17 are the Italian
Galileo Avionica Grifo S7 and the
French Thomson-CSF RC400 (a
variant of the RDY-2), along with
the MBDA MICA IR/RF short/
medium range air-to-air missiles.
JF-17 production in 2010 was
planned at 24 planes, while from
2011 it is planned to be at 30
planes per year at Pakistan
Aeronautical Complex.
Pakistan Air force will get total
275 JF-17 jets, According to Air
Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood
Ahmad of the PAF, the first JF-17
squadron will be inducted into the
PAF fleet in the first quarter of
2009.

Check above information on Jf17 upgrade plans.
chinese may not be number one in composite or any tech but they still are good. If india can develop composite surely the chinese too can do it.

Dude investigate properly before saying anything just for sake of it. first of all there is no link in your thread. 2ndly does your Wikipedia say who is going to provide those upgrades to Pakistan and from where Pakistan will get that money? 53 Mirage upgrade cost 2Billion. think about 250 JF 17.

About Composites does it matter whether China have that technology or not? Planes body is already built for all planes.

i guess future models of Jf17 can incorporate composite. Yes money is a problem for pak that is why choose Jf17..the cheapest option..and don't think they will not upgrade it in future..that is their minimum requirement and they will not compromise on that. yes lack of money will come to play if we are talking about a mrca or fgfa type purchase.
and finally i think with these upgrades Jf17 can be compared to lca mk1.

Looks like needle of speedometer is stuck at composites. when they already have planes with them why would they rip is apart and waste hell lot of money to build a new frame from scratch. Even If Pakistan has money to get in to this composites question is that will china do it for them? We all know that JF17 are made only for Pakistan and china has no intrest in them.

now it comes to further upgrades. question still remains who will and for how much ?
They were trusting on JF 17 as it can perform a little better under AWAC umbrella with BVR capability. That means its purely for defensive role . If we somehow JAM their awac or use Awac killer to shut them down JF17 will be dead meat.

I am talking about yet to built models of mk1 and Mk2.
yes Jf17 today is inferior to lca mk1 but can come close to if upgraded..and upgrade is possible. They might not win a war with Jf17 but thats another point.

Junk Fighter -17 and outdated Chinese Fantan are quite similar, it is that Chinese after stealing the Romanian and Russian designs decided that its better to supply Bankrupt pakistanis with remodeled Q5s and get whatever USAID fund from them, so that they stop eating their heads for a cheap workable A/C they can show their delusional Awam to cheer about, have a looksie:

"Apke liye Bomb gira sakta hai"

Mr Nawaz Sharif, we very well know it can on targets we want. But what is the need for us to buy when jets owned by PAF can very well do!

Fun apart. It is interesting to see Pakistanis claiming that they are ahead of Bharat in aeronautics and actually believing in it so much that Nawaz Shariff is taking sarcastic. Good for PAF but i will again say that PAF by selecting JF-17 might be able to fill their empty squadrons but no advantage beyond this point. Do not forget any war from now will be fought in Pakistani air space(forget 71, today our Radars are sharp and Jets are sophisticated and you will not find yourself even close to Ambala or Utarlie forget others) and opponents these JF-17s will face will be FGFA, MKIs and M-MRCAs.

I dont find anyone defending JF-17 here. Maybe JF is not that good but we must not disrespect any war machine.
BTW if there is no one to support JF 17 or praise it then why has been thread created or still working?
