A very well filmed war story.
It was an epic battle during the Napoleonic times!
Napoleon was a tactical genius but a fool at strategy.
Only a fool would start a land war in Russia.
But then again Napoleon was one of the first military commanders to identify an intermediate level between tactics and strategy, which he called 'Grand Tactics' and what the early Soviet military theoreticians (who perfected it) called 'Operational Mobility'.
Napoleon was credited with one of the pillars of Revolution in Military Affairs - Levée en masse.
Levée en Masse, August 23, 1793
Point #2 reminded above me that the Confederate States had the soil around rural outbuildings excavated for the same purpose of extracting nitrate.
