New Delhi: Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, who had gone to the US to visit the Yale University - where he was being honoured - was detained for over two hours at a New York airport. India has reacted strongly to the incident. Foreign Minister SM Krishna has asked Indian Ambassador to the US, Nirupama Rao, to take up the issue with US authorities. "This has become a habit of detention and then apology, this cannot continue," Mr Krishna said. According to reports, while everyone else was cleared by the immigration department, the actor was made to wait. Intervention by consulate finally helped, sources added. Also Read SRK detained twice at US airports now SRK, Katrina to do another film together Also See 0:53 SRK detained at US airport, jokes about it in Yale speech 0:39 Shah Rukh Khan dances at Yale Sources also said that India is considering reciprocating with the Americans now. Back home, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reacted on Twitter, saying: "Honestly what's the big deal?? This airport detention thing happens all the time & to all sorts of people. Get over it." (Buzz on Twitter) Mr Khan, who has been named a Chubb Fellow, was accompanied by Nita Ambani and they were understood to have arrived in a private plane at the New York's White Plain airport. Mrs Ambani's daughter is a student at Yale University. Mr Khan's plane landed in New York at 12:30 pm but he didn't make it to Yale till 6 pm, two hours late for his scheduled speech. When he finally did address the students at Yale, which is three hours from New York, Mr Khan said: "We were detained at the airport as always. For one and a half hours. It was nice. It always happens when I come to America. Whenever I start feeling too arrogant about myself I take a trip to America." "Mr Khan was very very upset at the episode. Yale University officials had to contact the Department of Homeland Security and the Immigration and Customs Department at Washington, when they came to know about his detention," sources said. This is not the first time Mr Khan has been stopped at an American airport. In 2009 also, he was stopped at the Newark airport and was released after a two hour grilling. Shailaja Gupta, who is the USA head of Mr Khan's production house Red Chillies Entertainment, said that he was expecting to be stopped this time as well and that he answered all questions with grace and patience. She also said that the airport officials recognized him but continued with the questioning.

He should go to hell, everybody gets detained, he is over-reacting because of the shameless VVIP treatment his ilk and uncouth politicians and their families of India get (on top of this we have an illiterate multi-billionaire plunderer of a 'Damad' of GOI who gets PM/Presidential treatment at airports and other govt. establishments - Shame on this country)!

Shah Rukh Khan or any Bollywood actor can go to hell. Law is equal for everyone. If you dont like the US, don't go there. They are not inviting you but you are going there on your own wish for personal or/and professional reason. Don't froth in the mouth each time someone is questioned by US security agencies. They are doing their job. US is not India where terrorist come and live freely due to flaws in security.

When a person is insulted by a country, why go there to be insulted again?

I hope Krishna applies his anger for all Indians, including those whose name is Khan!

    All cosmetic anger!

Shah Rukh Khan is a guest of Ambanis.

What is a few hiccups enroute to a free lunch?

    Private jet!

No standing in a queue or sitting in a plastic seat to be told that the flight is delayed!

Red carpet, staff to cater for all whims and fancies.

Man that is life. Just like Pratibha Patil and her foreign jaunts! Enjoy at someone else's expense!

    Wow!

I don't know if KKR is making a profit, but it is the only team which has a Chief Minister as its mascot!

One normally has other forms of life as mascots.

    For instance

    But KKR has a CM!

    That is something!

Shah Rukh Khan's detention: US apologises, India talks tough
    PTI | Apr 13, 2012, 11.47AM IST

Shah Rukh Khan was detained at a New York airport for over two hours by immigration officials after arriving from India in a private plane with Nita Ambani, to address students at Yale University

NEW HAVEN/ NEW DELHI: The US customs and border protection authorities have expressed "profound" apologies for the Shah Rukh Khan detention incident.

However, taking the incident seriously, external affairs minister SM Krishna has asked the Indian ambassador to US, Nirupama Rao, to take up the matter with the authorities.

Reacting strongly to the detention, Krishna said it has become a policy of detention and apology by the US which cannot continue.

Earlier, Shah Rukh Khan was detained at a New York airport for over two hours by immigration officials after arriving from India in a private plane with Nita Ambani, to address students at Yale University here.

While Nita, wife of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, and the rest of their group were cleared immediately, Khan was stopped and was given immigration clearance only after about two hours, sources told PTI.

46-year-old Khan was to address a press conference at 2pm and deliver his lecture at 4pm at the Yale University.

However, he arrived for the press meet three hours behind schedule and his hour-long lecture started at about 6pm.

"Whenever I start feeling too arrogant about myself, I always take a trip to America. The immigration guys kicked the star out of stardom," Khan said with some sarcasm addressing the students at the University.

He added that he always has his "small victories" even in such circumstances.

"They (immigration officials) always ask me how tall I am and I always lie and say 5 feet 10 inches. Next time I am going to get more adventurous. (If they ask me) What colour are you, I am going to say white," Khan said.

Earlier, when informed about Khan being held up at the White Plains airport in New York, Yale University officials "contacted and spoke with officials at the Department of Homeland Security and Department of US Immigration and Customs in Washington," the sources said.

They added that Khan was "very very upset" at the episode and it "took time for the university officials to make him comfortable again."

The actor, who is scheduled to fly back to India later on Friday night, visited Connecticut-based Yale University, which had conferred him with its prestigious Chubb fellowship.

As part of the fellowship, Khan addressed a gathering of hundreds of Yale students, parents, faculty and other members of the Indian-American community at the Yale campus.

Before beginning his address to the students, Khan, dressed in a chic black suit, said that it had been a long flight and thanked Ambani for getting him to the US.

Ambani's daughter Isha is a student at Yale and is also president of the South Asian Society at the university.

Khan went on to say that he was "detained at the airport as always."

"It was nice, as it always happens," Khan said with a slight smile even as students in the audience gave out a large sigh and booed the US authorities when they heard Khan telling them he was detained.

While Khan told the students he was stopped for about an hour and a half, sources said he was at the airport for over two hours.

They said he told them that this is not the first time he has been stopped at an airport in the country and this has happened to him "three to four times before."

The most recent one was in 2009 when Khan was detained at the Newark Airport in New Jersey.

Khan had said at the time he was detained for nearly two hours at the Newark International Airport because of his last name.

The private plane carrying Khan, Ambani and their group landed at White Plains Airport, which is about 53 kilometres from Manhattan, at around 12:45 in the afternoon.

Sources said while everyone with him cleared immigration soon, he was stopped and had to wait till 2:30pm before he was cleared by the immigration.

The sources said since the White Plains airport is a small facility, everyone who was with Khan waited together for him to get his clearance.

The detention had caused "tense" moments for Khan and his team, who sources said were "struggling" to get the situation sorted out.

Khan did not mention anything about the detention during the nearly 20 minute press conference.

Members of his team as well as the university officials too did not talk about the reasons for his detention.

When contacted, Khan said through a member of his team that he would not make any comments on the episode.

The person said Khan stressed that the American immigration officials "kick the star out of stardom," adding that the episode had left a bad taste.

Dear Minister I just want to ask you how come you have reacted so fast in this case when you take months to react and sometimes don't even react when innocent indians are help hostage by the pirates just because they are common indians ???

India is unnecessarily making a mountain of mole. After all who is Shah rukh for US?. Who is he there? What is his value. Is he representing Govt of India? India never protested when former President of india Dr. Abdul Kalam was frisked twice in two visits. Kalam never made a issue. Publicity hungry Krishna & SRK are making big hue & cry. As the incidence has happened in US India should learn to obey law of land.

    Really?

And yet there's all this talk of liberalising the visa regime for the Pakis? Would have been comic if it was happening to someone else.
