Don't know... just that Saudi handed over a Paki terrorist even after so much pressure from the Pakis.
Or it could be a deal with the Americans for laying low on David Headley. The Americans might have leaned on the Saudis to hand over this guy.

Re: Maharashtra minister Fauzia denies links with Abu Jundal, says ready to face inqu

It is true that MLAs and MPs have to accommodate all and sundry from their constituency.

However, it is obvious that no Tom, Dick and Harry can use the MPs' or MLAs' house as a Night Shelter for the Poor without references!

No one knows for certain just what led Ansari to make the decision to drop out of college — and, if police are right, to join the Lashkar. It is possible, though, that this choice had something to do with the communal violence which was part of the cultural fabric of his early life. Following a wave of communal riots across Maharashtra in the summer of 1984, the Shiv Sena took control of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and pushed forward communal mobilisations in rural areas. Umapur, not far from Ghevrai, saw murderous anti-Muslim violence in 1986. Later, tensions surged after the demolition of the Babri Masjid in December 1992.
The Hindu : News : From a Beed village to 26/11 control room

Gujarat riots left a deep impact on Ansari

How did Syed Zabiuddin Ansari from Beed, son of an insurance agent and an aspiring electrician, become dreaded terrorist Abu Jundal?

According to the dossier the Intelligence Bureau has on Jundal, he was just a normal boy who never showed any signs of radicalism. But the communal riots in Gujarat and its fall-out in Maharashtra had a deep impact on him. Soon after, he joined the Students Islamic Movement of India, an organisation which had partly turned to extremism.

During his earlier days with SIMI, he was in charge of its operations in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra and shuttled between these two states to organise several camps.

In 2003-04, he was sent to Pakistan to train with the Lashkar-e-Tayiba, after he met one Rahil Sheikh. Sheikh's name had cropped up during the investigation in the 2006 serial train blasts.

Ansari was attracted to the concept of jihad and started training with the LeT.After he returned to India, he used the same camps he used to organise for SIMI to run the operations of the LeT. His manner of functioning was soon noted by the top brass of the terror outfit. From a mere foot soldier, Ansari alias Jundal soon became a trusted operative of the dreaded group.

The initial operation he was entrusted with was a dry run in Maharashtra, but the police seized a cache of arms and ammunition in Aurangabad at that time. Though 12 of his accomplices were nabbed, Jundal managed to flee.

IB sleuths believe that a large amount of ammunition had escaped detection and those could have been used in the 2006 blasts in Mumbai.

Jundal had already left for Pakistan by the time the serial train blasts were carried out.

Jundal was able to raise funds as well as recruit cadres for the Lashkar. The Maharashtra module of the Lashkar was considered to be the strongest due to the members recruited by Jundal.Jundal has continued recruiting jihadis in Pakistan to fight alongside Lashkar militants in Kashmir. He had lived in Kashmir for some time after 2006 and handled operations there. Lashkar leaders knew that Jundal was an important asset and they kept shifting him to new bases so that he remained off the radar of probe agencies.

In 2008, his name cropped up in connection with the serial blasts in Delhi that were carried out by the Indian Mujahideen. Jundal allegedly provided support to the foot soldiers and guided them to carry out the terror strike. He was specifically entrusted with this operation as it was a crucial one for the IM, which was trying to secure its foothold in India.

After that, the 26/11 attack on Mumbai was the most major strike carried out by the LeT and Jundal. He met Lashkar founder Hafiz Saeed to plan the strike.

He was asked to identify a target for the strike which would carry the message of terror loud and clear across the world. Jundal suggested Nariman House as a likely target and it was later checked out by LeT operative David Headley.

Jundal taught the terrorists how to converse in Hindi and instructed them, in case they were arrested, to say that they were from Toli Chowki in Hyderabad. He also guided the terrorists at Nariman House and instructed them to make a variety of demands, including seeking an end to ties between India and Israel. While guiding the attackers, Jundal had said 'this is just a trailer, the movie is yet to begin'. He also used words like gathbandan (alliance), karenga (will do something) and prashasan (administration).

After 26/11, he was asked to maintain a low-profile and remain in Pakistan. When Indian agencies failed to ascertain his whereabouts and his exact role in the attack, he decided to move out of Pakistan. Jundal was then sent to Saudi Arabia. It is believed that he was trying to collect funds for the LeT and planning another major operation.

Indian agencies had received information about his shift to Saudi Arabia through contacts in Saudi, Nepal and some intercepts from the United States. They watched his movements closely for several weeks. Finally, Saudi authorities picked up Jundal and handed him over to the Indian agencies.

Jundal will now be interrogated about his role in the 26/11 attacks.

This is a worrying development for certain elements in Pakistan, which had tried to prevent his extradition from Saudi. But the Saudi regime was firm about not allowing any terrorists on its soil and Jundal was extradited to India.

MLCs are busy folks, maybe Abu Jundal was friends with one of Khan's minions and he rented out the room ? Lets wait for more developments.

The worrying thing from all this as EjazR pointed out, Indian agencies's competency is suspect. We cannot depend on the American largesse forever.

These guest houses are used by all and sundry. This guy has even worked for the police as electrician. Obviously "I am terrorist" is not written on his face for people to check on.

These MLAs, MPs even write a letter for their folks seeking train tickets when all other quotas are full. Usually happens because of networking and the MLA or MP probably will not even be aware of who the guy is that he is signing for. I think this practice itself of issuing such recommendation for utilizing property or rights allotted to MPs or MLAs should stop.

The MLC has already told she is ready for investigations and will cooperate. It's over to the investigation agencies now.

The question mark on Indian intelligence agencies could also be misplaced. Who knows this op may be a shining mark on their otherwise black report.

Indian agencies tracked him for a year. It means we have a good base in KSA and other such nations there where we have expat crowd and have developed good humint.

Preparations underway to send another dossier to Pakistan?
The Tribune, Chandigarh, India - Main News
Senior Home Ministry official :
Once the investigation is over, the details will be tabulated and sent to Pakistan. We have sufficient evidence to prove that the Pakistan-based terrorists are fanning trouble in India with active support from the establishment there.
http://www.tribuneindia.com/2012/20120627/main3.htm
MEA spokesperson :
This is purely a scheduling issue...please don't mix it with the substance of the relationship.
With these considerations in mind, we are looking at dates sometime in August.
We already knew your government was involved in some way or the other. Please wait while we cool down the hotheads here. Please continue murdering our citizens. We can talk about that. How is Dawood doing?

Actually THIS should be the PoA.

Do the investigation, implicate Hafeez Saeed and the ISI ad PA officers. Ask Pak to hand them over within X number of hours and if they don't, tell them they are fair game for an Indian reaction (read capture or killing)

Funny muslim blaming everything on Gujarat riots .He has joined the terror groups in pakistan in 2000 which is before godhra riots. How was godhra riots started ? Muslims burned the hindus who were returning from pilgrimage. But i dont know why every time you are trying to relate everything to Godhra riots.
Being traitor lies in the blood of every muslim. It doesn't need Godhra/ Babri to do that .

Since when did you think that our GoI started having b...s? Our Home Ministry would probably be in conf calls with the Pakistanis on how to handle this situation. Remember the previous dossier given by the Home Ministry where the Pakistanis said the guys mentioned were Indians? Incompetence or complicity?

So he was unhappy that poor Hindus who were Ghulams of Mughals asked their temple back and retaliated for Sabarmati train burning :*(

Thank God! common Non-Muslims didn't behave in that way or we could have witnessed a mayhem in India.

He was an Electrician which is not a lucrative job, his sudden disappearance to join SIMI and LeT proves that his dissatisfaction and frustration with his job and himself, pushed him at Jihad !! while he is blaming Govt. and riots for this but the actual reason is his joblessness and frustration !! :tsk:

What I gather is that this bloke was on a Pak passport and in Saudi Arabia.

The ISI tried its best to see that the man is not extradited to India but Pakistan.

However, the Saudis, with a nudge nudge from the USA, extradited him to India.

Now, the Pakistanis are sweating in their pants!

He was in College too!

His BSc final year admit card issued by Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University in 2004 bears his name as Syed Zabiuddin Syed Zakiuddin.

Stoic Kasab unsettled by Abu Jundal's arrest

Stoic Kasab unsettled by Abu Jundal’s arrest - The Times of India

MUMBAI: It was one piece of news that Pakistani gunman Ajmal Kasab least expected to hear. When the guards at Arthur Road jail in Mumbai informed Kasab that his handler Zabihuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal was arrested, it shook the stoic demeanour of the terrorist who was part of the 10-member team that gunned down 166 people and injured hundreds in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

An agitated Kasab wanted to know the details of Ansari's arrest and his first question to the prison guards was whether his handler would be brought to Arthur Road jail, sources said.

The sources said he also wanted to know when Ansari, who goes by the name of Zaby and Abu Jundal, was arrested. "Kasab was surprised to know about Ansari's arrest. He wanted to know whether Jundal would also be lodged in the same prison," the sources said.

Usually, Kasab, who is in solitary confinement, tries to make conversation with his guards. But the guards have been given strict instructions not to discuss any topic related to the case or the investigation, the sources said.

Kasab neither has access to television or newspaper nor does he have any calendar in his bomb-proof cell. He has to depend on the guards to figure out the day or month of the year. For the past couple of months, Kasab is brought out of his cell for an hour daily.

Kasab is worried that this Abu who is from Beed will have connections and will kill him!

Possibly, he thinks that India does not have the 'gurda' to hang him!

What is fair has already been sold to time. US will not oblige us with a drone strike in Rawalpindi / Islamabad / Lahore, outskirts of NWFP is easier. We will require an Abbottabad-like action - would you think that the chances are fair?
