Arvind Kejriwal taken into custody in defamation case filed by Nitin Gadkari

Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was taken into custody in a criminal defamation complaint filed against him by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari.

Kejriwal, who appeared before the court in pursuance to the summons issued against him, will remain in jail till May 23 as he refused to furnish the bail bond.

Kejriwal told Metropolitan Magistrate Gomati Manocha that he was ready to give an undertaking that he will appear before the court but refused to furnish bail bond to secure bail.

During the hearing, the magistrate observed, “I completely agree but why he (Kejriwal) will not furnish bail bond. What is the problem. There is a procedure and why should we follow different procedure in this case. I agree he will appear in the court but the procedure is that a person has to file bail bond. Are you looking for some exception treatment?”

Kejriwal, who also argued in the court, told the judge that he has not committed any heinous crime and added that he was not looking for any exceptional treatment.

“This is my principle that when I have not done anything wrong, I will not seek bail. I am ready to go to jail,” he had said.

Advocates Prashant Bhushan and Rahul Mehra, who appeared for Kejriwal, told the magistrate that these cases are of political nature and as per the principle of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), they will not furnish bail bond.

    **********************************************************************

He wants to have elections in Delhi.

He has asked forgiveness from people of Delhi for bolting into the blue.

His ambition for national status has gone for a toss.

He has to focus now on Delhi alone for relevance in politics.

And so back to being the Drama King in the incarnation of 'The Second coming of Christ' or "Gandhi Revisited".

More drama can be in the pipeline.

Delhi will indeed be a great circus to watch.

Will go back to people on forming government in Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal to L-G

Former chief minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday met Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung and reportedly requested him to not dissolve the Delhi Assembly. It is learnt that Kejriwal told the Lt-Governor that the AAP plans to hold “jan sabhas to garner public opinion on whether they should form a government in Delhi again”. But, this time, the Congress has refused to back the AAP.

“It was communicated to the Lt-Governor’s office not to dissolve the Delhi Assembly, but to keep it in suspended animation. The party plans to hold jan sabhas (public meetings) in Delhi in the coming weeks to gauge opinion on whether the AAP should form government in Delhi again,’’ an official said.
Kejriwal was accompanied by senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia. Their meeting with Jung lasted nearly half-hour.

Two month ago, the AAP had approached the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the Lt-Governor to dissolve the Assembly after the Kejriwal government resigned on February 14 over its failure to pass the Delhi Jan Lokpal Bill.

After the Delhi Assembly elections threw up a hung Assembly, the AAP, which had 28 seats, had formed government with support from the Congress, which had eight MLAs. However, just 49 days later, Kejriwal resigned as chief minister.
Following the AAP’s dismal performance in the Lok Sabha elections, a section of AAP leaders had mooted that the party form government in Delhi again. But another section disagreed and pushed for fresh polls.

The latter believes their performance in the LS elections — a second place finish to the BJP in all seven constituencies — augured well for the AAP in a state election. Those pushing for jan sabhas within the AAP believe that the process would bring the party back into focus in Delhi even if it does not result in a decision on government formation.

“This was just a courtesy meeting. There was no talk of forming the government as the Congress is no longer willing to support us and we do not have the required numbers to form a government without that,’’ an AAP spokesperson said.

The BJP and its allies had won 32 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly. However, its number came down to 28 after three MLAs, Harsh Vardhan, Ramesh Bidhuri and Parvesh Singh were elected MPs.

@Ray I thought of posting this news but I thought someone will share it on 2014 election thread.

I liked judge's comment on this matter.
He said you represent a party named Aam admi party and still you want some special treatment from us.

No matter how much drama he do he will not get as much as seats as he got in last election

One more thing, is it me or everybody else think Arvind kejriwal is suffering from Attention Seeking Wh0re Syndrome???
I mean he seem like a male version of Poonam Pande

I saw some channels this afternoon.

It appears that the people of Delhi are not keen on Kejriwal.

So he has to do some real serious magnun opus in theatrics to be able to convince the people.

If I were a Delhi citizen, I sure would shun him as I would plague.

I initially liked the movement, but theatrics I abhor. And those who run away from responsibilities when the situation is not going one's way instead of grappling to even the keel, I simply cannot stand since they are cowards. Imagine him commanding a company in attack and bolts for the stable the minute the enemy artillery opens up and even before the shells fall to the ground for effect!

Modi should be an example of a politician. He braved it and soldiered on even when the flak flew for 12 long years and the attacks after attacks appears to hit the lines, and the attackers only to retreat under his stoic demeanour and stand.

Kejriwal is what in rural Bengal would be termed as a 'nonsense' man meaning a bogus man, not worth to be even listened to.

The sad part is that there are some real wonderful people in AAP who will suffer because of this egotistical and power hungry oaf. His attitude is just like that of a petty bureaucrat in a govt office with huge piles of unattended files and dust and gloom permeating the atmosphere, pandering homilies with endless cups of insipid cold tea.

The attention whore's original plan may have been to wait until NDA government takes oath, and then whine "vendetta." The police netted him just in time. Now he will get nobody's sympathy except his own dwindling mob of zombies, NGOats, and Dhongressis with their anal sphincters still sore.

The balls it takes for his men Manhoos Sisodia and Somnath Dehati to claim BJP is no match for them in the next NCT-Delhi polls. BJP won more seats in the previous polls, and now it will push Kiran Bedi as its CM candidate. BJP's general election momentum is intact. It will be an ant-vs-boot contest.

It is said that "Diya bujhne se pehle jor se jalta hai" and it's the same last flame, last nail on the coffin. Kejriwal is finishing his remaining chances of VS elections.

Too bad for them that Modi had not been sworn in yet and hence can't be blamed for jailing Kejriwal.
Kejriwal is not off to a good start though. Rubbing the judiciary the wrong way. Let us see what the High Court says tomorrow. I do hope they concur with today's judgement.

"The issue is not of 10,000 rupees. The issue is that of our principles. If we have to go to jail for calling Gadkari a thief, we are ready to go to jail," Manish Sisodia.
Gather at Tihar Jail, Gate no. 3 if you are in vicinity.
Aam Aadmi Party expresses complete solidarity with its national convener Arvind Kejriwal in his fight against corruption.
AAP totally disagrees with the decision of the learned Metropolitan Magistrate to send Kejriwal to judicial custody. There is no provision in law which makes it mandatory for a defendant against whom a complaint is filed in a defamation case to furnish a bail bond, particularly when he is ready and willing to be present in the court on the fixed date of hearing.
It is surprising that the court decided to send Kejriwal to judicial custody despite his lawyers expressing readiness to submit an undertaking that he will be present in the court during each date of hearing.
There are atleast four precedents in which courts have accepted the undertakings given by Kejriwal in similar cases and did not insist on a bail bond. In defamation cases filed by Mr Pavan Khera and Mr Amit Sibal, the courts accepted the undertaking given by Kejriwal and a similar procedure was followed in two other cases registered against him pertaining to protests against the coal scam.
The present case pertains to a criminal defamation complaint filed by former BJP President Nitin Gadkari against Kejriwal, for allegedly stating that the AAP will put up candidates against corrupt leaders in the Lok Sabha elections.
Despite the erroneous court order, the AAP will continue and intensify its fight against corruption and for ensuring the rights of the common man.
It was the AAP, which had first exposed the corrupt deals of Mr Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Mr Nitin Gadkari in October 2012.
Infact, it was the AAP expose against Mr Gadkari about his business deals and involvement in land deals, which ultimately led to his resignation as BJP President in 2012.
It is very surprising that Mr Gadkari had then chosen to remain quiet despite all documents about his Purti group of industries and other deals were exposed by the AAP, and he has now filed a defamation case merely on a political statement that the AAP will put up candidates against all corrupt leaders including Mr Gadkari.
The AAP appeals to its volunteers to maintain peace and calm. The party expresses complete solidarity with its national convener , since the party views the fight against corruption as one of its main tasks
