Kashmir could trigger another Indo-Pak war, Nawaz Sharif said: report

Islamabad: Kashmir is a flashpoint that can trigger a fourth war between Pakistan and India anytime, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said, seeking an early settlement of the issue.

He also said he had a dream of seeing Indian Kashmir free and hoped to see it happen during his lifetime.

"Kashmir is a flashpoint and can trigger a fourth war between the two nuclear powers at any time," he was quoted as saying by the Dawn daily in his brief address to the budget session of the 'Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Council' in Pak-occupied Kashmir yesterday.

The press release issued by his office last night did not carry the above statement.

The statement had however quoted Sharif as saying that the Kashmir issue should be settled according to the aspirations of the people and the UN resolutions as peace in the region was not possible without it.

"The Prime Minister said that he had a dream of seeing held-Kashmir free from the Indian occupation and desired that this dream could turn into reality during his lifetime," the statement said.

About Indo-Pak relations, the Prime Minister categorically reiterated that it was India which indulged in the arms race, it said.

"We were drawn into arms race by India," he said.

"If we had a choice, we could have diverted these expenditures to the social sector uplift and eradication of poverty," he emphasised.

Sharif also expressed his satisfaction over the improvement of situation on the Line of Control (LoC).
Sharif also "expressed his dismay at the contradictory stance taken by the Indian government" in addressing the core issue of "occupied" Kashmir.

During his meeting with the leadership of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) in Islamabad after presiding over a meeting of AJK Council as its chairman, the Prime Minister said that it was his desire that the issue must be resolved at the earliest.

Underlining the historic aspects of the Kashmir issue, the Prime Minister said that it was a long standing issue, and must be settled in accordance with the UN resolutions.

"I have raised the issue with US President Barack Obama and he also agreed in principle that the issue should be resolved in accordance with the UN resolutions," he said.

The Prime Minister said that whatever he suggested for the resolution of the issue had sincerity and weight, adding, "You have already seen our commitment to the issue in past and it is our deep desire that the issue should be taken forward towards its resolution in accordance with the desires of the Kashmiri people."

"On the other hand, the Indian government's repeated declaration of terming held-Kashmir as its integral part despite UN resolutions on the subject, shows its lack of sincerity to resolve the matter," he added.

Sharif asked the Kashmiri leadership to offer their suggestions and proposals for expediting the resolution of this long-standing bone of contention between the two neighbouring countries.

He also urged the international community to play its due role in the settlement of Kashmir issue, the statement said.

Sharif is clearing given a caution to India to gear up.

Are our political leaders listening?

Or are we too keep the Nation's armed forces crippled as has been the pastime of this Govt and the Bureaucracy?

Unless we wake up, things my go uncontrollable and costly.

pak might be thinking that given the bad state of our economy, forcing a war on us will make us beggers like them and than together India & pak will compete with their begging bowls. how stupid can Pakistanis be?

A nation that is 1/3rd our size is drawn into a war race with India.

Pray who asked them to get into the arms race with us in the first place. If they had not had any ambition on Indian territory then they would not have had to spend on arms.

Also Mr.PM who has asked you to be the thekedar and the Training center of all the terrorists in the world. You could have avoided all this and spend more on development.

Spot on! It's funny when pakis claim India forced them into an arms race, when pakis first sent their paid mercenaries to capture Kashmir in 1947, started every other war, sent their jihadists, etc.....India has simply REACTED to pak aggression, so who forced who into an arms race? Any rational thinking person can see India has simply built up it's armed forces to try and deter terroriststan! So pakis go F yourself, you started it, you forced yourself into the pitiful condition you find yourself in, don't cry it's India's fault.

On thread: http://defenceforumindia.com/forum/...-visa-free-travel-between-india-pakistan.html, I had said this

Baldy is up to something nasty one more time ! When Sharifff talks something about peace or improving relationship with India, that means he is implecating something big against India.

I hope, RAW and NIA folks are watching what's actually cooking behind enemy lines.
Till that turd stays in power, it appears that, another war with Pukes will not be a distant reality.

Indian armed forces, better gear up and expect the expected event.

MMS is now speaking like a Sardar :balle:

No scope of Pakistan winning war in my lifetime, says Prime Minister | NDTV.com

Islamabad: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said there is no scope of Pakistan winning a war against India "in my lifetime."

His statement came hours after a Pakistani newspaper reported that Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had said Kashmir could trigger a fourth war between India and Pakistan.

Mr Sharif's office has since denied that he made that statement.

The Dawn said today that Mr Sharif had, during a trip to Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, said, "Kashmir is a flashpoint and can trigger a fourth war between the two nuclear powers at anytime."

The paper claimed he made his comments in an address to the council of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in Muzaffarabad yesterday.

The Pakistan Prime Minister's office described the Dawn report as "incorrect and based on malafide intentions."

However, in a statement that's certain to serve as an irritant for India, Mr Sharif's office said that he had announced during his trip that he has "a dream of seeing held-Kashmir free from the Indian occupation and desired that this dream could turn into reality during his lifetime."

In recent months, the violations of the ceasefire along the de facto border or Line of Control in Kashmir have been the worst in nearly a decade.

In September, Mr Sharif met with Dr Manmohan Singh at the UN General Assembly in New York and both leaders said they would ensure their military commanders work on restoring the ceasefire.
