Karunanidhi rules out DMK-Congress-DMDK alliance for Lok Sabha polls | NDTV.com

Scotching speculations about a possible pre-poll pact between his party, Congress and DMDK for the Lok Sabha elections, DMK president M Karunanidhi today said there were "no indications" for the formation of such a combine.

Asked if it was true that there was a possibility of a DMK-Congress-DMDK alliance, he said, "The media is trying to do it. There are no indications of such an alliance getting formed. A situation leading to such formation has not arisen."

DMK had been openly wooing the DMDK, headed by actor-politician Vijaykant, for an alliance, but the latter was yet to make clear his choice.

Speaking to reporters before leaving for Tiruchirappalli for the party conference on February 15 and 16, Karunanidhi, in reply to another question, said, "There is no question of making changes to an alliance that has (already) been formed."

DMK has already finalised alliance with the Indian Union Muslim Leauge, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Manithaneyaneya Makkal Katchi, and Puthiya Tamizhagam.

Kanimozhi meets Sonia - The Hindu

DMK MP Kanimozhi met AICC president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday.

The meeting assumes significance as it has taken place at a time when there are efforts to bring together both the Congress and the DMK together, but sources said it was a courtesy call.

“When Ms Kanimozhi was in hospital, Ms. Gandhi inquired about her health. So she met the Congress leader and thanked her,” the DMK source said.

Karunanidhi says 'stunt actor' Vijayakanth adept in politics too, hopes DMDK will join DMK alliance - The Times of India

TRICHY: DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Friday appeared hopeful that Vijayakanth-led DMDK will join the DMK alliance for the Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to presspersons in Trichy after his arrival for the party's 10th state conference, Karunanidhi said, "Vijayakanth is a stunt actor. In films he used to defend himself against his opponents. He is following the same tactics in politics too." Karunanidhi was replying to a question on why Vijayakanth is still evasive on the alliance issue.

The DMK chief added, "I have invited the DMDK to join our alliance. I hope that those who wish for the development of Tamil Nadu and its people will join our alliance. Vijayakanth is no exception to this."

Asked if there was a chance of the Congress and the DMDK being a part of the DMK alliance, Karunanidhi replied, "There is such a possibility, but it depends on how one exploits it."

On his daughter Kanimozhi's meeting with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi, Karunanidhi said Sonia had inquired about her health condition after hearing that she was hospitalized recently. "Sonia wanted to know about her. Kanimozhi attended the Rajya Sabha proceedings and after that she called on Sonia to tell her she is fine. Nothing more than this." Karunanidhi said.

Asked about his meetings with Union ministers Ghulam Nabi Azad and Farooq Abdullah, Karunanidhi said. "Both are my friends, and they called on me during their visit to Chennai. No alliance issues were discussed during my meetings with them or with any leader from North India."

Not willing to predict any poll outcome based on the opinion polls, Karunanidhi said change of governments would happen based on the change in peoples' mood. "I am not willing to definitely say which party or combine will form the government," he said.

Asked if the opposition parties browbeat the DMK on the 2G issue during the election campaign, Karunanidhi said: "When the issue was in the limelight, reports spoke about an inflated loss to the extent of several crores of rupees. It was like a balloon. But now the same balloon has burst and has shrunk to a question mark."

Asked if the party would pardon its members (Alagiri and supporters) who were suspended for anti-party activities, Karunanidhi said, "If the punished people behave in a manner to be pardoned, they will be."

"I know my height," Karunanidhi's replied when reporters sought his comment on some leaders aspiring to become the Prime Minister.

He said the Trichy conference would be a turning point not only for the Lok Sabha elections but also for the change in the state government.

Re: Karunanidhi rules out DMK-Congress-DMDK alliance for Lok Sabha pol

Parties with concern of Tamils will join our alliance, says DMK chief - The Hindu

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam hoped that all parties which have concern for the unity and welfare of Tamils would join its alliance and the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam was no exception, said the DMK President M. Karunanidhi in Tiruchi on Friday.

"The DMDK leader Vijayakanth is a stunt actor and he is proving to be as elusive as in the stunt scenes in films. I had expressed my wish on a couple of occasions that his party should join our alliance in the hope that all those who wanted Tamils to live united with ethnic feeling will support us. Mr. Vijayakanth is no exception to it," he said, commenting on the DMDK’s failure to respond to the DMK’s overtures for forming an alliance so far.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting the arrangements being made for the 10th State conference of the party to be held here on Saturday and Sunday, Mr. Karunanidhi said he has not discussed the alliance issue with any of the Congress leaders or leaders of other parties from North India who had met him recently. "The Congress and other North Indian leaders are my friends and the meetings were friendly in nature," he said.

He also maintained that there was no political significance behind DMK MP Kanimozhi’s recent meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Ms. Kanimozhi, who had taken ill recently, had briefed Ms. Sonia Gandhi about her health.

Asked whether the Congress was using the 2G issue to browbeat the DMK, Mr. Karunanidhi said although people were inclined to think so from newspaper reports, he did not know the truth. Allegations against the former Union Minister A. Raja and others in the 2 G issue were blown out of proportion by newspapers which had projected losses to the tune of Rs.80,000-90,000 crore. But the baloon has burst, leaving a question mark now.

Commenting on pre-poll survey projections that the BJP would emerge as the single largest party and the possibility of changes in political formations in the post-poll scenario, Mr. Karunanidhi said he could not and did not wish to say which party will come to power at the Centre. He also declined to comment on BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra’s Modi remark that the Third Front would only prove to be helpful for the Congress in the elections.

The State conference of the party would not only herald the victory of the DMK in the Lok Sabha elections but also the beginning for a change of government in Tamil Nadu, he said.

Asked whether there was any possibility of pardoning those who have been punished in the party, Mr. Karunanidhi said it could be possible if their actions deserved it.

According to Thanthii tv, BJP might emerge victorius in many places in TN. Its alliance might win anywhere between 8-15 seats, depending on the perception that it will win or not.
