Karnataka plans teaching Gita in schools - The Times of India
Bjp agains plays safforn card.i hope they make it optional.if they make it mandatory than it is attack on secularism .minorites of karnataka never accepts it.no one can infource majority view on minority community in a secular country.
Should be optional for minorities.
Should be optional for all including hindus themselves.
agreed it should works that way.
Punjab govt. teaches Gurbani to 10th class students first three chapters of Punjabi text book contains arround 10-12 shabad from the holy book.
It does not matter what minority thinks, wants or howls about, it's BJP govt and till the time they are there it will be their will represented by the majority....Better change the govt. if you do not like Gita and want to oppose Gita being taught! Simple!
There should be no option for Hindu students. They must be made aware of Gita.
skrew that there should be no religious content in government schools ... WE ARE A SECULAR COUNTRY WITH CLEAR DIVISION OF TEMPLE AND STATE.... Being a secular country is the only argument that India has for holding on to Kashmir, and if we cant practice that then we are better off giving Kashmir to the Pakis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
goverment should work under constitution.they can't infource the holy gita on non hindu population.it harms their right freemdom of religion.
I am sure bjp government will make it optional if they have political wisdom.
we are not atheist socitey.indian secularism means we respect every religion and respect the right of people's religious choice.government won't be bias against any religious community.indian secularism i think indian secularism did not separtae tample from state rather than it also include other worship place with tample in state.
If anyone want to
get religious knowledge they can get.but at the same time no one should infource this religious study on any person.the person should have final choice what he/she wants.
What is wrong in this, because all the Hindu temple wealth are taken by government so it becomes the respectability of the government to teach the younger generation about our values and ethics, and the best way to teach is by way of teaching Gita, and it should be optional for minority students....
By the way Gita have played a major role in shaping the life of many great personalities and below is one such example:
J. Robert Oppenheimer, American physicist and director of the Manhattan Project, learned Sanskrit in 1933 and read the Bhagavad Gita in the original, citing it later as one of the most influential books to shape his philosophy of life.
Julius Robert Oppenheimer (April 22, 1904 – February 18, 1967) was an American theoretical physicist and professor of physics at theUniversity of California, Berkeley, he is often called the "father of the atomic bomb" for his role in the Manhattan Project, the World War II project that developed the first nuclear weapons. The first atomic bomb was detonated on July 16, 1945 in the Trinity testin New Mexico.
Then by the same token muslim, skihs, Christians, and all the other religions should also be thought in government schools. If the Gita is the only religous book being thought in schools then there is a clear government bias, as tax payer money from all religious people is being used to teach Hinduism in the schools... Also I am an atheist if the government was truly secular then why should my money be used to teach any religion in schools unless i get a tax break there is a clear violation of the constitution of India!
The meaning of secularism is religious belief are PRIVATE, meaning that religion was meant to be thought at home not by the government
that is why i say it should be optional.who don't want to read this they can avoid it.government can also consider other religious text for other religious community.but again that should also be optional.
But where in the constitution does it say that the Holy Gita can be forced on the Hindu population!
again what about athiests, you are spending their tax money to teach religion in schools.
it should be optional.who wants to read they can read it.but nobody should infource anyone to read it.if they infource than they will violate freedom of religion right
In UK there is a religion subject and it incorporates all religion and its optional.
Well the issue hear is Hindu temple wealth is taken by government so it becomes the responsibility of government to teach the Hindu beliefs to younger generation, and we are not advocating to teach the Hindu belief to other faith people, it's only for Hindu kids why you are feeling insecure???
The Gita taught to kids?
They will utmost memorize the possible answers just like in any other subject.
Gita is one of the most sacred texts of hindus, I think the righteous men didnt think of the consequences of downgrading it as a text book.
And guess what, when some kid looses in that subject , imagine what he will talk about it. Oh yes, the same you said about the subjects which u failed during ur school days.
