17 more killed as Karachi bloodshed continues

KARACHI: At least 17 more people were killed in different incidents of violence in the city on Thursday.
A sympathiser of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) was killed inside his clinic in North Nazimabad. Police said that unidentified armed pillion riders barged into the clinic and fired at 56-year-old Dr Abid Baig. He died on the way to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH). A policeman was killed near Khyber Chowk, Ittehad Town. According to police the victim, who was on election campaign duty, was shot dead by two unidentified pillion riders. He hailed from Chiniot.
Two brothers were killed inside their shop in Madni Colony, Maripur. An official said that armed men barged into the book and uniform shop, and after quarrel opened indiscriminate firing, injuring 30-year-old Rashid and his younger brother Kashif. They were shifted to CHK for treatment where doctors pronounced them dead. The victims belonged to Punjab and had received extortion slips, but they refused to oblige, which could be the reason behind the killings.
A man was shot dead outside his house in Golimar. The motive behind the killing is unknown, while investigation has been initiated. In another incident, a paan shop owner was killed inside his shop in the same area. Meanwhile, an employee of a shipping company was killed at Albela Chowk in Soldier Bazaar. According to police, armed bikers shot the victim several times when he was on his way to work.
A man was shot dead over a monetary dispute in Baldia Town. His body was shifted to CHK for postmortem. A man was shot dead near Old Haji Camp. According to police the deceased was identified as Baber, 26. His body was shifted to CHK for postmortem. A man's strangulated body was found from Yusuf Goth. Police said the victim was strangled to death by his wife, Anum, along with her paramour Rizwan. His body was moved to ASH for autopsy. Police have detained Anum and initiated a probe, while Rizwan is at large.
A man was gunned down by the unidentified armed men in North Karachi. The body was moved to ASH for medico-legal formalities. A month-old beheaded body of a man was found from bushes near Port Qasim area. The dead body of a man was found near dairy farm in Malir. The deceased had been shot dead. His identity could not be ascertained. Bullet-riddled bodies of two men stuffed in gunny bags were found near Zoological Garden. Police took the bodies to CHK for medicolegal formalities. Police said that the victims were tortured and then shot dead. An injured cop, Kamran Rehmani, 42, succumbed to his injuries during treatment in the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. According to police, the deceased was working as an intelligence officer and had left the police station for official work two days ago in New Karachi area where armed men shot him and escaped.
