Silly demand as far as a Regiment is concerned. The Indian Army is trying to have all India mix and here comes another demand on separate identity.

They can join the Rajputs, JAK LI and others where there are Gujjars.

At that rate, why not a Indian Chinese Regiment with the Regimental Centre located at Tagra, Kolkata?

We in Uri are different from others in Kashmir. We are patriotic Indians

The contest in Uri is triangular, two-time MLA Taj Mohiuddin of Congress pitted against former IPS officer Raja Ejaz Ali of PDP and NC's Mohammad Shafi. Shafi and Ali are Paharis. Taj is a Gujjar, these communities are rivals in politics. Uri's demography is split evenly between Paharis, Gujjars and Kashmiris.
