Well that is not the problem now is it?

The problem is, how do you or rather how do you and we solve this needling problem.

If they're dependent on you for something, you can control that. If they're not, then a small, swift incursion into their territory as a response seems to be apt.
Well again we have to wait projects are line up money does not grow on trees good news the FA50 contracts have been sign and delivery will be in the last quarter of 2014 this is example of waiting for good things to happen with study again we have limited funds in the Government budget For National Defense and yes it also includes the Modernization of the Military only 4.1% of the budget is for defense the the highest is Government social service 37.2% next to Economic Service 26% Public Service 16.1% and paying of public debt 15.5% again we have to wait.

So we counting on Alliances (in case of worse case scenario) and International law (for Peaceful Resolution of the problem)

Philippines seem to placed between a rock & a deep well. No easy choices for them. Hard times lie ahead for everyone in East Asia & South Asia.

In India, GoI has already decided to bend over to whatever extent needed in accommodating the Chines. India has already lost the battle on all fronts even without giving a fight or taking a stand.

I would say to the citizens of neighboring nations, please DO NOT count on India to do anything in face of Chicom aggression. GoI doesn't have the balls to save it own ar*e, something, I believe, is already known too well to the world.
I have my hopes alive until election and change of this government.

Let's not lose hope even if we have to fight a war after elections.

So you have already ordered FA-50s? That's a good step.

A basic aviation setup for combat would be useful for you.

Also, when fighting an enemy so large and aggressive, the best option for you is cost effective missiles. For everything, use missiles and rockets. Shore based artillery, SAMs, SSMs, cruise missiles, unguided rockets based on different islands against a naval invasion etc.

The advantage is that you will be able to use them in large numbers without bleeding too much money compared to strategic platforms. Use the enemy's own strategy against him.

If you can somehow get licenses to make such rockets and cheap missiles in-house, in 5-6 years, you can have a strong defensive military.

Again we have to wait because of that 4.1% for the military only policy due to the fact that Constitution was made out of fear of the Military so the priority is Education,Health and other services as for SAMs(still Under negotiations with Israel i think the Philippines is trying to get Spider missile defense system for the Army and since we be according to many sources says we planning to get Debry and Python missiles for the PAF and other products from said country. Again we have a lot of projects on q as you people would say like Helicopter carrier (SSV) or Mothership projects is next but no winning bids yet along with bids for new missile frigates still waiting for any winning bids and our new military cargo plane bids again waiting for winners and also our 21 helicopter refurbishment projects still waiting for winning bids but at less our phase out projects and Self reliance projects are making progress on the Phasing out projects we currently phasing out our old combat rifles by buying new ones from America like the 50,000 new M4 we bought from Remington beside from our rifles we bought from Israel and South Korea along with some body Armor and other personal equipment to phase out our old World war two, Vietnam and post Gulf War weapons (namely our A1s and A2s and our M1 Garands yes the very same old world war 2 garands) and equipments and this just for the Marines and the Army and along with the PNP (Philippine National Police) and their Special forces namely the SAF (Special Action Force) and also to replace our old radar system which we also just bought from Raytheon for new integrated coastal watch system and America will be giving a powerful radar system aside from what we bought for coastal watch system going back we also bought some stocks of M16A3s but i think this never been use by the US Army so it far more better since never been use in combat and the list goes on like replacement for combat vehicles like replacing old trucks, Jeeps yes Jeeps our old MUTTS and our old Humvees with new kia trucks and min trucks (a license Jeep M715 model) and new Ambulance type Humvee's and new Humvee's to name a few projects and we also making our own equipment and weapons but mostly small arms guns like the Government Arsenal (were majority of our Military and Law enforcements Ammunition comes from namely our 5.56 up to 7.62mm for rifles 45 caliber to 9mm for pistols and .30 calibers to .50 calibers Machine guns) like the M16/M4 production project and upgrading our Ammunition making capabilities systems, equipments, and Facilities and Small Arms repair facilities so we can buy less from abroad and ya i forgot to mention we also make unguided zuni rockets and unguided bombs but the Philippine Airforce makes them though not the Government Arsenal which is weird but any way the Navy is making their own UAV with cooperation from Mapúa Institute of Technology which majority of the Navy reservist comes from and surprisingly weapon carrying UAVs like Trident strike basically a remote control RC buggy with .30 Caliber Machine Gun on top and its big brother Mk 2 with .50 Cal Machine Gun complete with control station and different sensors just like a real UAV and to think College kids made it for the Navy and the Marines but still on the experimental and testing phase and Also the Army making its own new Armored Escort Vehicle after the old one was rejected by the Army's self reliance command i think its its final stages before evaluated for mass production if approved this would mean will be making our own Humvee's in the near future again more money for priority weapons, equipment and technology purchases then just sticking to upgrading capabilities which we been just doing for the past 15 years since the old military modernization law was past with things going for us does far we are very optimistic that we finally move out from the eternal limbo of just capability upgrading and second hand equipment buying i hope the other projects like SSV (Strategic Sealift Vessel) or Mother ship project (Helicopter Carriers) we are planning to have three of them and i hope our plans to buy missiles from Israel like the SPYDER missile defense system which we need badly we can rely on our old 40mm bofor cannons which we have plenty from world war 2 may i add i hope that someday this old 40mm bofor will be replace them with computerized anti air defense systems like the sky shield which is a 35mm from but as for now only the SPYDER was announce but am just happy that we starting even though its a bit late from FA50s and our new coastal watch system to update our old radars and surveillance systems to our new three AW 109 "Power" helicopters for the Navy (coming this December) and new ships from France for the Coast Guard just to name a few

@Zero_Wing This post makes complete sense.

It is very important that the international community sees you (Philippines) standing up to the Chicoms & fighting them instead of buckling down under Chicom military-diplomatic pressure. Only then, you would EARN the respect you deserve & real military/economic aid would be forthcoming ( more than nominal aid that can make an actual difference in a military conflict). This aid might not result in Chicoms getting defeating militarily or comprehensively but the costs of conflict could be escalated by several notches against the Chicoms, who have a lot to loose in their quest of being the next superpower.

The conflict could be protracted to an extent so that Chicoms do not achieve their primary military objectives & stand to loose face. If Philippines could manage such a resolute & determined stand in face of Chicom aggression/coercion/assertiveness, they can expect preservation of their territorial integrity & accomplishment of vital national interests for several decades to come.

Almighty helps those who help themselves. Here the Almighty ones for Philippines are US-NATO, Japan, Korea, etc.

Remember, no one likes to bet on a dead horse. Only if Philippines is seen as standing tall, fighting strong & lasting long enough, would the above-mentioned support be forthcoming.

Or else, expect only occasional lip-service, verbal platitudes & hollow statements of solidarity (with your people) being dished out eloquently by that powers that be.

Update on the FA50 sir the first two will be delivered at end of fourth quarter of 2014 and the rest will be delivered in 2016

Air Force chief: 12 fighter jets by 2016

If everything goes as planned, the Air Force may be able to receive two lead in fighter trainer jets as early as next year, a ranking military official said Wednesday.

Air Force chief Lt. Gen. Lauro Catalino dela Cruz said the first two air assets to be acquired from South Korea would be used to train their pilots.

"Our target date is [to] have at least two [jets delivered] initially by the end of fourth quarter of 2014 and then the rest would be (delivered in the next) six months," dela Cruz said during a forum organized by the Manila Overseas Press Club last Monday.

The government plans to acquire 12 FA-50 jets for P18.9 billion to enhance the territorial defense capabilities of the Air Force.

Dela Cruz said the negotiations with the Korea Aerospace Industries started about a month ago. He said the two jets could be delivered by the end of 2014 if all the contracts and other necessary documents are signed this year.

"(Once the jets are delivered), we now have aircraft that could deter any intruder. If there are unidentified (intruders), we can pursue them," dela Cruz told The STAR in a separate interview.

After the initial delivery, two jets are expected to arrive every two months. The delivery of all the 12 air assets may be completed before the Aquino administration steps down in 2016.

Earlier, The STAR reported that the Defense department's Bids and Awards Committee had approved the terms of reference for the acquisition of the jets.

The Air Force also plans to acquire 21 UH-1 or Huey helicopters for P1.26 billion. The third bidding for the helicopters has been slated for this month.

The Defense department conducted two biddings for the project last December and February, but both of them failed.

The bidding is open to both local and foreign firms subject to eligibility conditions prescribed by the law.

Defense Undersecretary Fernando Manalo previously told The STAR that at least 14 firms have expressed interest to supply the Huey helicopters.

The government is also in the process of buying two Navy frigates, two strategic sealift vessels and six units of 155 mm Howitzer artilleries.

In order to earn the world's respect what Philippines needs is good governance under democratic leadership like Ferdinand & Imelda Marcos, not craps like FA50!

But it also doesn't need opportunist bullying from larger country desperate for military attention, which no one is giving a damn to except when needled.

It doesn't have to be a gun for gun policy. But Philippines has to modernize enough to at least be able to manage and supply logistics to its forward combat zones in case of a war.

Their air force and military aviation is very far behind even against local and regional threats let alone you lot.

Remember, even you were once only a fraction of US defence budget and yet you stood against them.
hypothetically, you can defeat any enemy anywhere as long as you spend enough.
In real world, you has always to deal with limited resources. So how much you spend on defenc depends how serious the threat is.
When we stood against USA, we were fighting for survial, we spent lot more than the figure you got.
Today, Philippine is only fighting for several islands which they just occupied in past several decades.

You somehow seem to be proud of provoking a conflict around the region. Conflict is never easy. While it is easier for us to discuss on the forum here, it is the soldier and his family that has to bear the brunt. If it comes down to an all out war, there will also be a small but significant damage to PLAN which means waste of precious lives on both sides.
I am not proud of any military conflict. On this case, I just stand on the same side with my homeland as much as any indian and philippine. Since their soldiers have beening playing this game for years--harassing our fish boats in the "their" area, then I have no problem that our soldiers do the same thing in "our" area. At least I didn't ask our soldiers to shoot any fish boat yet.

If it is something you are willing to pay off for, then there is another element; your FDI will seal up during the conflict no matter how small. Foreign investors will freeze everything in your country till the war is over which means that you will be on a no-earning-full-spending mode even if it is for a short time. Not to mention that your country will needlessly ratchet up fears all across eastern Asia among your immediate eastern neighbour and antagonize a lot of other countries in the region, even if you win a conflict with Philippines.
I don't think a conflict between Philippine and China would damage FDI in mainland China which is thousands kilometres away, unless you believe that Philippine's air force can throw the bomb to China or Philippine's navy can attack Chinese coastline.

Picture this; it is the same as US needling you all the time in your waters. How would you feel?

What when other countries' troops came into your territory, stayed there for long and then went back?

See, this is not strategy; this is needling into a conflict.

As for the first shot, Filipinos have already shot your fishermen in their waters.

Apologies are only words as is the evidence of US saying sorry after every drone strikes 2 years ago.

Seriously, no one wants a war. You are taking other countries for a needless ride.

In such a scenario, even US doesn't have to spread any propaganda. You are simply confirming what the US is only saying till now; sabre rattling through poking into others' territories.
Was there any PLAN ship harass any US fish boats in any disputed area? NO!
Was there any US fishman was shoot dead by PLAN or Chinese Maritime Police? NO!
But Philippine did. I understand they think they are doing this to defend their national interest. So I don't blame them.
But since you have done all these, then you should expect the other side will do the same to you.

We not even if we have that capability i say because we use to back in the old days but the point is we just chase the imperials out nothing more am more worried the coastal towns and cities and palawaan if the imperial chinese try to attack they be hit pretty bad but now am a little confident with new radar systems and weapons we bought at less will have little fighting chance of defending ourselves
