Repeating that ridiculous claim will not make it true. The USN is committed to F-35C as it has no alternative to it at the moment. Current 4th or 4.5th gen carrier based fighters will have a hard time penetrating high end ADs like that of China in the Pacific. NGAD is still at least 20 years away.

Besides, F-35C will offer commonality with Japan's F-35As.

F-35C will destroy any opponent out there. It just have more problems unresolved being the version with the least order and thus least priority (only USN needs it).

The question is did the USN reduce its F-35C order? No. The Super Hornet Block III will be enough for more than 90% of USN missions, which is doing air patrols or attacking lower capability enemies.

But if there is a need to breach a tough enemy then the USN will rely on F-35Cs. The only Super Hornet that will be useful on day 1 is the Growler as it has very powerful EW systems that will allow an already stealthy F-35C even more room and options to kick down the front door of powerful enemies.
