For her immediate neighbourhood Japan herself is like an unsinkable aircraft carrier.

got this from MP

U.S. and Japanese personnel watch as a Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey – wings, rotors and engines folded — is brought below decks on the helicopter carrier JS Hyuga.

It was the first time that a V-22 has landed on a Japanese warship.

Japan's self defense forces are interested in acquiring Ospreys, both for humanitarian operations and defense of Japan's remote southwest islands, some of which are claimed by China. The Hyuga flight, which took place Friday during a joint U.S.-Japan amphibious-warfare exercise off the coast of southern California, was designed to ensure that the aircraft can safely operate from Japanese warships.

The MV-22 can fly farther, faster and with a greater payload than a standard helicopter, but does not need a runway to land or take off. The Marines began operating a squadron of Osprey's from a base in Okinawa last year, generating protests from local residents over noise and safety concerns.

I disagree with you. Carriers are not sitting ducks, had it been so, no one wud have gone in for them in modern missile world.
ok - im willing to change my point of view , but please convince me by informing what defence does an AC have when faced with a few hypersonic brahmos coming at it ?

(pls remember these days the newer brahmos' are having 500km ranges )

most grateful for your info, Sir

Though the ship — dubbed "Izumo" — has been in the works since 2009, its unveiling comes as Japan and China are locked in a dispute over several small islands located between southern Japan and Taiwan
This is a lesson for us. If we even dream to become a regional power, we need to do a lot of work on improving our industrial capacity. Otherwise we are just a pile of straw...

We should not encourage the Japanese to chose a aggressive path. A pacifist Japan is in the favor of broader peace. Also Japan will do more harm to its already aging population by increasing its military strength.

Instead of increasing their military man power they can develop nuclear weapons as a deterrent.

This is not really an AC functionally (at least for now), just an aviation cruiser....more on lines of erstwhile Gorky..

China is herself building Carriers, so why this hypocrisy ? Japan has very right to defend itself.
China isn't bound by its constitution not to build carriers.

And phuleeeeeez. Izumo's hanger is larger than one on a wasp class LHD. 15 heli's my foot. A wasp class can support 40 assault heli's. Its near as large as the hanger on an America class LHA, which can support 20 F35B's.

Viraat couldn't hold a candle to Izumo.

Calling a carrier a destroyer doesn't change what it is. An offensive weapons system.

1. Destroyer or AC is just a name. it is an offensive weapon or not depend on different media.

2. Why no more peaceful nuclear test anymore? Don't want to contribute more on peace?
