Jammu and Kashmir priest arrested for religious conversions - The Times of India

All right thinking people in India should oppose this arrest. Had this happened in Maharashtra or Karnataka or Gujarat, the press would have eaten them alive. Let the same standards be applied here.

    Rather unfortunate.

The right to choice should not be curbed but it should not be through threat or allurement.

That's the only way things are being done here. People convert for money and job, but keep their Hindu name to benefit from SC/ST quota.

At least it gives a chance for the people to wear suits and frocks!

Have some seed money in the bank for a rainy day.

    And learn English.

It also gives sponsored trips abroad and also, quality education in India and abroad and not forgetting free or subsidised health care in quality hospitals!

And get reservation quotas in education, jobs and promotion!!

A great package deal, I would say!

All that is fine - I am more concerned about the fact that such an "arrest", "summoning by 'Sharia court'", "pronouncing punishment", "extracting confession for the 'crime'" etc. etc. is being tolerated by the media and the public in India. Apart from cyberspace, we will not see any outrage or condemnation of these people. That is the problem, and that is the worry, as far as I am concerned.

And we would have rejoiced that priest was shown his place.

I think that it was high handed to clap the Christian priest in jail.

The Ranbir Penal code is silent on conversion as far as I know.

If these people are converting with their will then no one should be punished but if they are being in any way forced then such actions should be taken to prevent such things in future.
