At the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman is paying an official visit to China from March 15 to 22.

In Beijing, Lieberman met with Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping and his counterpart Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on bilateral relations and situation in the region. His visit is a part of commemorations of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and Israel.

"During the 20 years, we've made rich progresses in bilateral relations. The complementarities in our economies created good opportunity for good and efficient cooperation on many issues. We attached significance to our political dialogue and also to dialogue on different levels,"he said at the press conference in Beijing Friday.

As giving plaudits to achievements gained in past, Lieberman said he expected to strengthen bilateral ties through interactions between the young generation of two sides and expand the two-decade friendship into broader fields.

Regarding to regional stability particularly Iran issue, Lieberman underlined China's role by saying it's crucial to explain Israel's positions to China and he hoped Beijing can understand their concerns and problems.

The week-long visit will also take the Israeli foreign minister to Chengdu and Shanghai, economic hubs in western and eastern China, to seek deeper business cooperation in technology industry.
