An Egyptian helicopter on Sunday entered Israeli airspace without authorization, and refused to leave for 25 minutes, Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Thursday.

The incident occurred at 5pm, when a mi-8 model helicopter crossed the Israeli-Egypt border near Eilat and continued to fly over the Negev. Four F-16 fighter jets were called up from Nevatim and Ovda airbases. The pilots attempted to contact the Egyptian pilot over the radio, but to no avail.

Only after the IAF jets fired warning shots, the pilot retracted his steps and returned to Egypt.

“The pilot was flying at a low speed, and didn’t respond over the radio,” said an Air Force official, adding that the reasons behind his excursion were still unclear, but that all possibilities were being examined, including an intelligence gathering mission or an unintentional error.

The official added that the Air Force views this incident with the fullest gravity, noting that they have never encountered a similar situation.

Immediately following the incident, Israel’s security establishment filed a complaint with Egypt through the appropriate channels.

Probably Con gress thinks we have so much of sparsely populated territory in far flanged areas that response intensity of Israel's levels isn't required :mad2:
They've quite a materialistic and mean view of what the mother land means :mad2:
After all PLA hasn't marched to Delhi yet.

Israel should use heat-seeking missiles for warning shots.

It would havew been exactly the kind of reply that that dumb ass Egyptian pilot (would-be martyr) was asking from the Israelis.... The match that would have lit a new real division or even war between their countries. :tsk:

I don't know about the real score of that incident. The pilot could have too much booze. But if my wild theory is correct that the pilot was an Islamist lunatic bent on agitating for a war with Israel then it's good that the Israelis did not again went overboard.

Believe me with the fired atmosphere in Egypt and across the Arab World, it wouldn't take much to ignite a dangerous confrontation with Israel. The Arab media and internet could easily turn an otherwise negligible incident over an inconsequential Mi8 into something more. I know Assad is just waiting (I hope not conspiring) for just the opportunity to turn the attention away from him back to the old evil, Israel.

Israel gets attacked with rockets from across its borders all the time. The reason war does not break out is due to Israel's restraint.
