Israel refuses to sell Turkey advanced naval Barak-8 interceptor!!!

Israel has turned down several Turkish requests for advanced military hardware, according to Israeli and Western intelligence sources. Sources in Ankara say that the impact from Prime minister Tayyep Recep Erdogan's alignment with Syria and Iran and poisonous attacks on Israel is beginning to cut into the Turkish army's operational capabilities.
In recent weeks, Turkish naval chiefs tried to find out in particular if Israel would be willing to sell the Barak 8 missile interceptor, whose radar provides 360-degree coverage against incoming missiles or air attack, and which was developed in partnership with India. Security sources told debkafile that it was decided in Jerusalem not to sell, in case Erdogan decided to allow Iranian military intelligence experts to study the Barak-8 and analyze its technology. This interceptor is a key defensive component for the Israeli missile and warships patrolling the Persian Gulf seas opposite Iran, the Red Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean opposite Syrian and Lebanese shores.
As debkafile revealed exclusively last November, the Turkish Prime minister and Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad signed a secret military pact on Oct. 28, 2009, requiring Turkey's military intelligence, its air force and navy to help Iran repel a possible Israeli attack on its nuclear facilities. It included a provision for the sharing of any data and technology on Israeli weapons systems in Turkish possession, which the IDF might use for a potential strike.
Since that pact was signed, Israel has cut off all advanced weapons supplies to the Turkish armed forces. India too is flatly against letting Turkey getting hold of the Barak 8, in whose development the Indian Navy has invested $330 million since the program began in 2004. New Delhi fears that from Turkey, the technology might leak to Tehran, which India fears is capable of trading its secrets with Islamabad for Pakistani nuclear and missile technology.
Six months ago, India and Israel signed a $1.1 billion contract for the purchase of the interceptor and its installation on most of its navy's warships. The system, complete with launchers, radar and installation sells for $24 million. The Barak 8 provides warships with all-weather, day-and-night, 360 degrees coverage and is capable of intercepting incoming missiles when they are no more than 500 meters away from target.

I dont know what move...but Debka has blown it out of proportions. Yes Barak was refused to Turkey. But this report is paranoic. There are just 2 reasons why Barak wouldnt have been sold:

1: Israel dosent like Erdogan's attitude
2: India is afraid if it would be analysed by Pakistan as Pak-Turk relationship is pretty close. And Turkey didnt let India into the Afghan conference in the sidelines of the nuclear summit on Pakistani request.

recent developments in turkey has made it a highly volatile region once upon a moderate nato ally is experiencing uprising of extremism so its no new news that many are wary of the situation also israel is not a fool to sell advanced systems to less trusted partners as turkey is said to have good relations with many nations who openly despise the existence of israel a good move this is

Turkey to Challenge Israel, Support Hamas

Turkey is planning a gesture that will challenge Israel and provide support to Gaza's Hamas leaders next month. A flotilla of ships funded by Turkey will approach Gaza in May, in an attempt to challenge Israeli control at sea - or, as organizers put it, “break Israel's illegal blockade on Gaza.”

While residents of Gaza have access to the sea, the Israel Navy prevents travel by sea between Gaza and surrounding countries, in an attempt to prevent weapons smuggling. Gaza terrorists have previously used incoming ships to smuggle arms, and have used the sea to transport bombs to the coast of southern Israel.

The ships are sponsored by the Turkish group IHH (Insani Yardim Vakfi), which receives government support. IHH also held a massive fundraiser to collect the more than $2 million it spent on the boats.

is this all for just not selling Barak-8 missiles??????

The more worrying news is of Turkey supporting Hamas. This is a huge move on their part which also get the US moving. Turkey has some latest western tech with them and with its stupid realignment towards rogues, its just shooting itself in the foot.
What the hell is Erdogan thinking? Or is he?

Ergodan's party is moving away from the secular fabric of Turkey and moving towards making the country more Islamic as seen by allowing the wearing of hijab by women which was strictly not allowed before. This is one of the reasons turkey is seen moving towards Arabs, Pakistanis and other Islamic nations and thus alienating other countries like Israel. The only reason Turkey is not Islamized as much as the Ergodan party wants is due to very secular Turkish Army which doesn't like the present government. If it were not for the ambition of Turkey to be included in EU and to show that the country is democratic, Army would have done a coup long time ago and the present govt. wouldn't have lasted this long. Sorry for the OT

Actually no its not OT. These reasons are sound enough to ensure advanced tech does not reach Turkey. I wonder if the US will sell the F-35s in the future or even support the F-16s Turkey has. Turkey can also bid its EU dreams good bye if it moves into the Jihadi camp and call everyone else infidels. What a shame.

There is a dynamic shift taking place in the middle east. IMO Turkey is trying to neutralise the moves by Iran and Syria. It is all about positioning and leadership. India will have to be very careful as Turkey can be a source of Hi Tech weapons for Pakistan.

Very unfortunate to see a progressive and moderate country like Turkey resort to such lows all of a sudden. Considering the current leadership in Ankara, I or infact any Indian could care less what social structure Mr. Erdogan wants in his country as Turkish culture is more rooted in Islamic values. However, interfering in other's bilateral matters such as Israel and militant organizations like Hamas is wrong. Turkish government should take every measure to curb any potential rise of Al Qaeda like mentality in their otherwise beautiful country.

I believe Israel has made an excellent decision and has taken the courage to shut advanced supplies to Turkey, which I am sure in some way has something to do with India. Perhaps it might have been a behind-the-curtains request from Indian government not to supply the missile to Ankara considering the hefty investment the Navy has made.
