Pakistan denies receiving military equipment from Israel - Diplomacy & Defense - Israel News | Haaretz Daily Newspaper

ISLAMABAD, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan military Tuesday rejected as misleading a British government report which said Israel exported military equipment to Pakistan despite having no diplomatic ties.

Quoting the report, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that Israel exported military equipment to Pakistan and four Arab countries -- Egypt, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates and Morocco - - over the past five years.

"In 2010, Israel applied for permits to export electronic warfare systems and Head-up Cockpit Displays (HUDs) with components from Britain to Pakistan," the newspaper further stated.

Pakistan army dismissed the report in comment.

A military spokesman categorically denied a news report which appeared in a section of media stating that Pakistan purchased any defence equipment from Israel.

"The report is misleading and not based on facts," the military spokesman said in a statement.

The report was released by Britain's Department for Business, Innovation and Skills which oversees security exports and publishes regular reports on permits granted or denied to purchase arms, military equipment or civilian items that are monitored because they can be put to security uses.

The Haaretz news report revealed that according to the British report, Israel sought to purchase British components in 2011 to export radar systems to Pakistan, as well as electronic warfare systems, HUDs, parts for fighter jets and aircraft engines, optic target acquisition systems, components of training aircraft, and military electronic systems. Israel has long had decently good mil-to-mil and intel-to-intel relations with Pakistan, so nothing new there. What I dont get is, why does the right in India get all emotional about Israel, when Israel is by far the most practical country in the world and they have no space for emotions.
That's why I often got amused when some posters in effusive praises of the "Jewish state".

atleast in the G.I.Joe movie McCullum says "Never get caught selling arms to both sides" - looks like that`s just irrelevant advice in today`s arms bazaar :D such scenarios oly work in Cold War type geopolitical setups where it was really tough to get arms from both American and Soviet pedigree at the same time
Yeah, that axiom does not work anymore. Everyone sells to both sides: US, Russia, France, Germany, Isreal, UK, Sweden, Italy etc. have all old to Pak/China at the same time they were were competing, dealing or fulfilling contracts with India.

fact or disinformation by the pakis ?
Fact, been happening for long.

Indeed seems like there are no high morals when it comes to business. That is fine in the name of being practical.
But why arm a nation that grinds its teeth every hour, swearing Israel and Jews as ones of the prime enemies .. that dreams of keeping Palestine tussle alive forever for Israel like the Kashmir is for India.
Pakistan has clear intentions of harming Israeli interests at every realistic opportunity.
Israel arming Chile or Singapore is understandable, but Pakistan ??
Masses in Pakistan feed on emotions, the ruling elite, especially the military, as the flag bearer, followed by the politicians and the bureaucrats, alike, are a very practical lot.

What one hears from Pakistan is the rhetoric their masses want to hear, but the ruling elite works the other way and so the discrepancies appear in what they say and they do.

Pakistan in every dealing right with the USA to China to Israel to India to pretty much everyone else has been two faced.

Pakistan and Israel have had Intel and mil relations for long, just like India and Israel's intel and mil relations precede 1991.

Why? Well, if they can influence their sworn enemies, then why not a country like Pakistan and at minimal costs. One needs to follow the smart moves they have made in India and China for the sheer reason that these 2 get seen as countries which will have influential say in matters concerning the world. Forget everything, if they can have the Saudis by their side, then Pakistan is only following the foot steps of the KSA.

Especially the bolded part is 1000% correct sir. If israelis thought that they have no use of india either as a customer or diplomatic/strategic, they would dump us quicker than a lightning. They are into this close/mutual ally thing only and only and only for their benefit. period.
That is like saying, it's a win for Israel only. Not really.

Even during the cold war era, when the 2 countries were in opposing camps, there was give and take, on and of. If I recall well, the cooperation dates back to 50s, of course not at the scale it is today, also, India has gained much from Israel, but to get all emotional about Israel, doesnt make sense either.

We, as a nation, need to grow beyond emotions, something China has done so craft-fully.

That's why I often got amused when some posters in effusive praises of the "Jewish state".

Sub-continent is by far one of the most emotional places, and India scores quite high, so emotions do rule the judgement. Unfortunate, it is!

Man, it is said, is a creature of sentiment, rather than logic & rationale.

Had it been otherwise, there would be no wars & all conflicts could have been resolved peacefully, through dialogue.

Israel exported military equipment to Pakistan, says report

London - The claim was made by the Israeli liberal newspaper "Haaretz" citing a report of the British Government's Department for Business, Innovation and Skills which oversees security exports.

Israel is reported to have exported to Pakistan a range of military equipment purchased from Britain, but Islamabad denied the claim with a spokesman for the Directorate of Inter-Services Public Relations describing it as "baseless".

"The report is misleading and not based on facts," he said.

The claim was made by the Israeli liberal newspaper Haaretz citing a report of the British Government's Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) which oversees security exports.

"According to the government report, Israel has exported security equipment over the past five years to Pakistan and four Arab countries. The report, which deals with British government permits for arms and security equipment exports, says that in addition to Pakistan, Israel has exported such equipment to Egypt, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates and Morocco," it said.

A BIS spokesperson said there was no specific report on Israeli export of British security equipment to Pakistan, but it routinely released data on arms exports, including details of whether the arms were intended to be passed on to a third country. The Haaretz claim appeared to have been based on data indicating that British components sold to Israel eventually found their way to Pakistan. These included radar systems and parts for fighter jets.

Britain, however, refused licences for systems that Israel intended to export to India, Russia, Sri Lanka, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.

According to Haaretz, from January 2008 to December 2012, British authorities processed hundreds of Israeli applications to purchase military items for use by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), or to go into systems exported to third countries.

Among the countries to which Israel exported equipment were several with which it did not have diplomatic relations. Besides Pakistan, its clients included Egypt, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates, and Morocco.

In 2011, Israel sought to purchase British components to export radar systems to Pakistan. Other items included electronic warfare systems, Head-up Cockpit Displays parts for fighter jets and aircraft engines, optic target acquisition systems, components of training aircraft, and military electronic systems.

In 2010, it applied for permits to export to Pakistan electronic warfare systems containing British components.

Could this article be true, as from what I understand, Israel & India are practically strategic allies ?

Some Israeli firms could be subcontractors, or subcontractors to subcontractors. This is a globalized world, you can't avoid it.

Exactly, the way business is being done these days, it is really hard to keep track of export-law infringements or IP violations. Anyway, the arms-bazaar is murkiest possible extreme of this paradigm, almost as muddled as the narcotics-trade.

Israel strongly denies selling any military equipment to Pakistan

The State of Israel strongly denies selling any military equipment to Pakistan

The Ministry of Defense will be liaising with the UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) -- the body responsible for export licensing -- in order to receive the necessary clarifications regarding their official reports.

Israel has a long-standing strategic relationship with India, a democracy that also understands what it means to fight terror, and a country we see as a strategic anchor in global affairs.

The State of Israel would not do anything that could undermine India's security
