Let the guessing game begin. What is the probability that this will turn out to be a Paki?

I know that it cannot be a Paki who has traveled specifically for this purpose. I am referring to a Pak-origin Australian.

Lone wolves are a particular challenge to counter terrorism experts since they normally do not give away tell-tale signs. Normally, in an organised attempt to conduct terror the members of the concerned cell with contact each other every now and then either through phone or internet. That would be easily picked up by electronic surveillance. Bu lone wolves often do not coordinate with anyone thus denying CT forces intelligence.

A more traditional intelligence operation based on human intelligence from the communities will be more effective.

Agree. Lone wolves can only be tackeld by greater Public awareness and well knit local Human Intelligence.

Most worrying aspect of this new threat is that lone wolves are costless assets of terrorist groups.
The latter can mount attacks on civilized society without any backlash/exposure at all. They've got nothing to lose in it.

Virendra

US and it's allies breastfed these monsters assuming that the mighty west will never get hit. The double game hasn't stopped, we saw what happened in Syria, who funded the bloody conflict there. Who killed Gaddafi? US-adopted states in Gulf are providing sanctuary to the Sunni extremists. JKLF a banned terrorist group in India operated from London, so did several Khalistani gangs.

Will they wake up and stop playing this "good terrorist, bad terrorist" game? I don't think so.

Don't the Islamists usually go kaboom ?

Strange that he has hostages. What does Islam need hostages for ? Maybe he didn't study the koran properly. :hmm:

This looks like a B grade Islamist, who will be put away quickly.

I'm afraid it has to be done.
Like in the Communist states? That is how Communists rule, they impress upon the masses, that the guy sitting next to them and listening to their gossip might be a government informer. HUMINT is still the most effective way of gathering intelligence.

Islam might be intolerant, but this global terrorism was financed and supported by the NATO, but the NATO could not control the spread. Who were the Mujahedin who were projected as great warriors by the western governments and media houses? Any idea?

You just stole the words from me mouth.

"Who were the Mujahedin who were projected as great warriors by the western governments and media houses? Any idea?"
Answer: Terrorists funded and armed by pious St. America.

The recruitment of spies in communist regimes were an altogether different level, they were massive. There's no need for that kind of espionage network against lone wolves.

There's also no need to entertain your conspiracies...

Maybe you will be sitting there to decide the appropriate level.

The massive spy network developed and maintained in communist regimes, especially in East Germany, came about because the state was spying on practically every facet of lives of the people. They were not only concerned with specific issues like terorrism but the lifestyle and all sorts of anti-communist deviance.

Lol, you did not even address the point, of who will decide how much spying should be done on people's everyday life or how this spying will be done or if this spying is warranted at all.
Instead you went on a tangential rant about communist regimes.

Let us keep to the event at hand. We might derail the thread on this surveillance thing.

Our #TenNews team have spoken directly to 2 hostages inside the café"¦ They are confirming 2 demands from the perpetrator: (1/3)

He needs the ISIL flag to be directly delivered to the cafe; And his 2nd request is to speak to the Prime Minster. (2/3)

They also state there are 4 bombs"¦ two inside the Lindt café at Martin Place - and two further in the Sydney CBD. (3/3)
