Is society at fault for electing corrupt leaders ? Why do people even vote for crooks fighting from jail and make him win elections...do people voting not share the blame ?

Are our leaders only at fault or is society also at fault ?

    Absolutely.

Of that there is no doubt.

Politician bashing is also becoming a favourite pastime of media. It has been pointed out on several occasions that these mainstream news agencies are themselves dishonest.

While it is true that politicians (many, not all) are corrupt, it is also true that a politician reflects the electorate. We Indians always get the kind of leaders we deserve. It's time we did some self-introspection.

In a democracy the leaders will always represent what the majority of society are actually like.

Politics is too important to be left to the masses, aka plebs, aka sheeple (sheep+people).

There is a counter-point to that too.

I don't agree that there is no honest leader left, but I added that option with some grammatical correction (hope you didn't mind that). :)

There is no honest person because society does not elect honest person.

In EVERY election honest person loses. The 3rd option is drifting away from real problems...it is nothing but an excuse to hide self guilt.

The electorate is not made up of educated people or those who are aware of issues that affect the country.

Even amongst the educated how many actually understand specialised subjects that make up the various aspects of the country such as economic, defence, strategy, foreign policy etc, which have to synergies as a whole to make the governance a success?

Yet, each understand issues that affect their personal lives at all strata of society;.

Therefore, honest or dishonest does not matters. It is who promises to deliver the individual's wish list.

Then there are a large section who realise that it does not matter who wins since none will serve their purpose. They thus take it as the time to have a ball with alcohol and money and freebies!

Our bureaucrats and politicians are not aliens from a different world. They were born and raised in this very land, this very society. They are corrupt because either the society is corrupt or spineless or plain ignorant and blase about it, so these folks get away with murder.

Corruption has been become widespread because we as a society have over the past few decades excused lying and cheating.

Our constitution is to be blamed for allowing a candidate with a criminal record to stand for polls.
Our judiciary is to be blamed for its inability to prosecute and sentence criminal politicians.

Our society breeds corruption. A look at all the candidates across party lines will show you corrupt and goons are ruling the roost. You actually don't have a choice. People use to vote for parties regardless of the candidates, or to someone who promised the sun and off course vote bank politics.

Only a constitutional amendment and drastic one at that can save us.

If We(Indians) elect a good executive and legislative, then automatically we can reform the constitution. So dont blame the politicians in a DEMOCRACY. Its like standing in front of a mirror and scolding the image there:sad:
