Is Obama's drone doctrine counter-productive?

BBC News - Is Obama's drone doctrine counter-productive?

Salient points in favour:
  1. President Obama personally approves every single drone strike and takes moral responsibility for them.
  2. This frees up a lot of the people (military generals, analysts, etc.) from speaking up their mind.
  3. The President takes care to minimize civilian casualties.
  4. Drones are preferred over bots on the ground because of obvious less threat to the soldiers.

Salient points against:
  1. Drone strikes kill women and children.
  2. They are illegal under international law.
  3. It is a seduction of simple solutions to problems.

The unfortunate part is the too many Taliban fighters are killing innocents and US soldiers.

Therefore, it is but natural there has to be some retaliation. US and ISAF troops cannot enter Pakistan and so what is the alternative but to use Drones.

There is no embargo on Pakistan to shoot them down except that they would then have shot down their money bags that they survive on!
